Gerrit Cole SP | NYY
Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Strikes out 11 on Sunday
Cole allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out 11 over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Sunday.
Cole was dominant, limiting the damage to a solo shot by Michael Toglia in the second inning. The same couldn't be said for the Yankees' bullpen, which let two leads slip away in the 8-7 extra-innings loss. Cole has earned quality starts in all but one of his eight starts since the beginning of June. The All-Star has a 2.78 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 134:35 K:BB through 123 innings over 20 starts this season. He's projected for a favorable home start versus the Royals in his next outing.
-
Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Rockies' Chase Anderson: Strong showing Sunday
Anderson allowed three hits and two walks with one strikeout over five scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Sunday.
Anderson was pummeled for an 18.23 ERA over his last four starts before the All-Star break, but he was much better after some time off. The right-hander remains a risky fantasy option given his home park and shaky overall numbers. He's at a 6.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 38:19 K:BB through 54.2 innings this season. Anderson is lined up to next take the mound for a road start in Miami.

Seth Lugo SP | KC
Padres' Seth Lugo: Hit around by Phillies
Lugo did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings against Philadelphia. He struck out five.
After logging a quality start in each of his last two appearances, Lugo was unable to find a third, giving up five runs and failing to get out of the sixth inning. All of the damage against Lugo came late, as he held the Phillies scoreless until the fifth and retired 12 of his first 13 batters. in his final 1.1 innings of work, Lugo surrendered two solo homers, a pair of doubles and two singles as Philadelphia put up five runs and reclaimed the lead. Despite Sunday's rocky outing, Lugo has been a reliable starting option, owning a 3.78 ERA and a 64:13 K:BB through 13 starts (69.0 innings). He's tentatively lined up to make his next start during a three-game road series against the Tigers.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Serves up pair of long balls
Wheeler did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings in a 7-6 win over the Padres. He struck out seven.
Wheeler struggled with power in Sunday's no-decision, surrendering solo homers to Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts while also giving up three doubles. The long balls marked his fourth consecutive start allowing a home run. Prior to his last four starts, Wheeler had given up only five homers in 2023. Though Wheeler owns a 4.04 ERA through 111.1 innings, he boasts an impressive 126:22 K:BB. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Guardians at Progressive Field.

Tyler Anderson SP | LAA
Angels' Tyler Anderson: Fans five in short outing
Anderson did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over three innings against Houston. He struck out five.
Anderson needed 85 pitches to get through just three frames in the inefficient outing. On the bright side, he forced 15 whiffs, and he's hit that mark in four of his last six outings. The 33-year-old still owns a disappointing 5.17 ERA with a 73:39 K:BB through 87 innings. Anderson's next outing is projected to be at home against the Pirates.

Tanner Bibee SP | CLE
Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Turns in quality start
Bibee allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision Sunday versus the Rangers.
Bibee effectively quieted a dangerous lineup despite giving up a solo home run to Marcus Semien to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Prior to Sunday, Bibee had walked multiple batters in each of his last six outings, though he'd also given up more than three runs just once in that span. The rookie right-hander has maintained a solid 3.32 ERA despite a lackluster 1.26 WHIP and 77:28 K:BB over 76 innings through 14 starts. With Shane Bieber (elbow) and Cal Quantrill (shoulder) both on the injured list, Bibee should enjoy continued security in the rotation. He's tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Phillies over the weekend.
-
Cristian Javier SP | HOU
Astros' Cristian Javier: Fans seven in no-decision
Javier did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings against the Angels. He struck out seven.
Javier still didn't look his sharpest, but it was a decent start to his second half. Over his previous three starts, he was tagged with 18 runs in just 10.2 innings. Javier had also turned in nine straight outings with five or fewer punchouts prior to Sunday's performance. He now owns a 4.39 ERA and an 89:27 K:BB through 96.1 frames. Javier's next start is lined up to be in Oakland.
-
Martin Perez SP | ATL
Rangers' Martin Perez: Shaky in no-decision
Perez allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Sunday.
All three runs against Perez were knocked in by Steven Kwan. After a short outing versus Houston on July 3, Perez was skipped in the rotation before the All-Star break, and he was sloppy against a light-hitting lineup despite the extra time off. The southpaw now has a 4.84 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 62:36 K:BB through 96.2 innings over 18 starts. Perez is lined up for a tough home start versus the Dodgers over the weekend.
-
JP Sears SP | SD
Athletics' JP Sears: Yields three runs
Sears did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits over 6.1 innings against the Twins. He struck out seven.
Sears worked through four scoreless frames before allowing a pair of solo homers in the fifth inning. Entering Sunday's contest, he'd allowed two long balls over his previous 23.1 innings. Sears is quietly putting together a decent 2023 campaign; he's allowed three or fewer runs in nine of his last 11 outings, lowering his season ERA to 3.99 across 19 starts. Sears' next appearance is currently lined up to be at home against Houston.

Kutter Crawford SP | BOS
Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Strikes out nine in win
Crawford (4-4) allowed a hit and walked four while striking out nine over six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cubs.
It was an overall good start for Crawford, with both the walks and strikeouts being season highs. It's just the third time he's gone at least six innings this season. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 3.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 67:17 K:BB through 67.1 innings over 18 appearances (10 starts). He's tentatively lined up for a home start against the Mets his next time out.
