  • Framber Valdez SP | DET

Tigers' Framber Valdez: Crumbles in sixth inning

Valdez (8-8) earned the win against the Pirates on Monday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Valdez was cruising along over four scoreless innings initially, but Pittsburgh got to him for four of his five runs allowed in the sixth inning. The left-hander continues to put forth an up-and-down debut season with the Tigers, conceding four earned runs in back-to-back outings to follow up a pair of quality starts to begin August. Valdez is set to bring a 4.35 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 111:54 K:BB over 138.2 innings into a soft matchup against the lowly Royals in Kansas City.

  • Royals' Michael Wacha: Hurt by long ball in sixth win

Wacha (6-8) earned the win against the Athletics on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks in five innings. He struck out three.

Wacha had trouble keeping the ball in the yard Monday, serving up a season-high-tying three home runs. The veteran right-hander remains a mostly dependable member of Kansas City's rotation, pitching at least five innings in all but one of his 25 starts on the year while giving up more than four runs just three times. Wacha will bring a steady 3.58 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 120:41 K:BB over 155.2 innings into his next scheduled outing against the Tigers.

  • Mitch Bratt SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Mitch Bratt: Takes loss at Fenway Park

Bratt (1-2) was tagged with the loss against the Red Sox on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over three innings. He did not record a strikeout.

Bratt was far from the worst pitcher for the Diamondbacks on Monday, with Zack Littell yielding eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits across 3.2 innings. Still, Bratt ran up his pitch count to 65 (37 strikes) through three frames while generating only one whiff. It was the second time this season that the 23-year-old southpaw failed to record a strikeout, and he now sports a 4.17 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 36.2 innings. Bratt is lined up to start against the Reds at home this weekend.

  • Eduardo Rivera SP | BOS

Red Sox's Eduardo Rivera: Lands on restricted list

Rivera was placed on the restricted list Monday.

It's not clear at this time as to how long Rivera will be away from the team. He can be considered day-to-day until more information on his availability comes to light.

  • Padres' Walker Buehler: Takes loss after yielding early runs

Buehler (7-6) took the loss against the Mets on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings.

Buehler got off to a slow start, allowing the first three hitters he faced on base and allowing two runs in the opening frame. He kept the Mets off the board the rest of the way and earned the quality start, but he could not get the run support he needed to avoid the loss. Buehler has put together stronger starts in his six starts since the All-Star break, posting a 3.16 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 31.1 innings, though he also has a 23:14 K:BB in that span. He's lined up to face the Twins at home this weekend.

  • Nolan McLean SP | NYM

Mets' Nolan McLean: Takes advantage of sloppy baserunning

McLean (6-6) was credited with the win against the Padres on Monday, allowing one run on six hits and four walks while striking out three across six innings.

It's a bit of a miracle that McLean managed to escape Monday's outing having allowed just one run, but he can thank the Padres for that. At one point, McLean allowed seven consecutive batters to reach base, but three of San Diego's baserunners ended up being thrown out at home, two of them back-to-back in the first frame. McLean settled in after that, allowing only three batters on base over the next four frames to secure his sixth win of the year and 15th quality start, the latter of which is tied for seventh-most in the majors. He'll take a 3.34 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 142.2 innings into his next start, which is lined up for this weekend on the road against the White Sox.

  • Brandon Young SP | BAL

Orioles' Brandon Young: Stung by long ball in no-decision

Young took a no-decision against the Rays on Monday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out three.

Young had a hard time keeping the ball in the park Monday, serving up a season-high three home runs. It was also the right-hander's shortest outing since May 17 in Washington, while the eight hits were his most allowed since July 10 versus the Royals. Young still has a quality 3.52 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 96:42 K:BB over 117.2 innings this year, and his rotation spot appears to be solidified for the remainder of the campaign after Baltimore dealt away Dean Kremer to the Twins at the trade deadline.

  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Rusty in return Monday

McClanahan took a no-decision against the Orioles on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

Making his return from the injured list, McClanahan showed signs of rust on the major-league mound following a one-start rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham. The Rays appeared to have a strict workload limit in place for the left-hander, who threw only 57 pitches (35 strikes), but he should see those restrictions loosen as he becomes further removed from his bout of left mid-back tightness. McClanahan is set to take a 3.25 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 94:35 K:BB over 102.1 innings into a road rematch with Baltimore.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Yankees' Max Fried: Shuffled to injured list with bone bruise

The Yankees placed Fried on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left elbow bone bruise.

Fried last pitched Thursday, when he gave up one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a loss to Seattle. He had been scheduled to take the hill Wednesday in Baltimore, but the elbow issue might have cropped up during his between-starts bullpen session. The Yankees haven't provided a timeline for Fried's return, but he'll miss at least a couple of turns through the rotation before he's eligible for activation Aug. 29. Given that he was forced to the shelf earlier in the season with a similar injury and missed more than two months, Fried seems likely to be out beyond the minimum 15 days.

  • Kyle Harrison SP | MIL

Brewers' Kyle Harrison: Benefits from scoring change

Harrison saw his season ERA drop from 3.47 to 2.99 on Monday, after a scoring change from his Aug. 11 start in San Diego resulted in five earned runs coming off his ledger.

In the second inning of the game, Harrison allowed a pair of base hits to open the frame before inducing a weak grounder to third off the bat of Padres catcher Luis Campusano. David Hamilton stepped on third base to record the first out, but Ji Hwan Bae was unable to corral the throw to second base to complete a double play. The Padres went on to score five runs that inning, but all of those will go down as unearned runs for Harrison after the Major League Baseball retroactively charged Bae with an error, negating the previous ruling of a fielder's choice.
