Schmidt (shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Schmidt said he felt good following his live BP session Thursday, but he simply doesn't have enough time to stretch out to a starter's workload. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he shouldn't require much more than a minimum-length stay on the IL.

Rodon hurled 4.2 scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League game against the Tigers on Friday, allowing three hits and issuing three walks while striking out five batters.

Rodon was a bit wild in the outing, as he threw just 45 of 77 pitches for strikes and handed out three free passes. However, he didn't give up any extra-base hits and got three of his five strikeouts on changeups. Rodon concluded the exhibition slate with a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB over 10 innings. His next start is scheduled for Opening Day against Milwaukee.

Horton tossed two scoreless innings in Friday's Cactus League game against the Padres. He allowed a hit and two walks while striking out one.

Horton started a spring training game back on March 8 and got another turn Friday. The 23-year-old pitched at both Double-A and Triple-A last year, and he figures to return to Triple-A Iowa this season for an extended look at that level. If Horton pitches well there, he could push for his MLB debut at some point in the summer, though Chicago would have to open up a spot on its 40-man roster to make room for the young righty. He's an intriguing prospect who would have some fantasy appeal once he makes it to the majors.

Hendricks completed five innings against Texas in a Cactus League game Friday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out five batters.

Hendricks yielded just one extra-base hit (a double) and didn't issue any free passes. The veteran righty finished spring play with a 2.41 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB over 18.2 innings. Hendricks has posted an ERA of 4.77 or higher and a K/9 of 6.5 or lower in three of his past four regular seasons, so fantasy managers have reason to be wary of rostering him. That said, he consistently posted reliable ratios early in his career, and Hendricks could benefit from a chance of scenery to Los Angeles after spending his first 11 major-league campaigns with the Cubs.

With Jordan Wicks optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Rea appears locked into the fifth spot in the Cubs' rotation.

Wicks was on Chicago's roster for its two-game set against the Dodgers in Tokyo, but he'll head to Triple-A once the domestic regular season gets underway later this month. That should leave Rea as the fifth starter, at least until Javier Assad (oblique) is able to return. Rea should get a boost in fantasy value as a result, though he's probably best used only in favorable matchups as he doesn't offer overpowering stuff. The veteran righty posted a 4.29 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 27 starts for the Brewers during the 2024 regular season.

Carrasco is expected to be part of the Yankees' Opening Day roster, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.

Carrasco did a great job standing out this spring, turning in a 1.69 ERA while striking out 15 batters in 16 innings across five appearances. His performance combined with injuries to Gerrit Cole (elbow), Luis Gil (lat), JT Brubaker (ribs) and Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) has seemingly resulted in the 38-year-old Carrasco breaking camp with the big club. Whether his spring success translates into the regular season will likely determine if the right-hander remains in the majors once the Yankees' injured arms start to return.

Bello (shoulder) expects to be activated by the first or second week of April, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Bello will open the regular season on the 15-day injured list and remain behind in Fort Myers when the Red Sox break camp. His IL stint can be backdated by as many as three days, so in theory the pitcher could be ready for the club's first home series against the Cardinals, which begins April 4. Boston opens the regular season with two road stops, first in Texas and then Baltimore.

Crochet allowed five hits and two walks while striking out nine over 5.1 scoreless innings in Friday's spring start against the Pirates.

Crochet finished up the Grapefruit League on a strong note, exactly as he began it. The left-hander dominated through five spring outings, giving up just one run in 15.2 innings (0.57 ERA) with 30 strikeouts and eight walks. Crochet will next pitch Opening Day against the Rangers.

Eovaldi allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one over four innings in Friday's spring start against the Angels.

Eovaldi retired the first seven batters he faced and nine of the first 10 over three scoreless innings before getting nicked for a run in his final frame. This was his final Cactus League tune-up and the best of his four spring outings. He finishes the spring with a 5.54 ERA, nine strikeouts and four walks over 13 innings. The right-hander next takes the ball Opening Day against the Red Sox.

Mize is expected to open the 2025 season as Detroit's No. 4 starter, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

The Tigers informed Kenta Maeda that he will begin the season in the bullpen and later optioned Keider Montero, leaving Mize and Jackson Jobe to round out the Tigers' Opening Day rotation. Both players should have some runway with Alex Cobb (hip) expected to miss at least the first month. Mize put up a 1.13 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB in 16 innings this spring, a vast improvement on his regular-season numbers from a year ago (4.49 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 78:29 K:BB in 102.1 innings).
