Brewers' Brandon Sproat: Jettisoned back to minors
The Brewers optioned Sproat to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Sproat had been recalled earlier this week, and he was wild in his lone appearance Wednesday against the Cubs, walking four while being charged with four runs over 1.1 innings. The Brewers will announce a corresponding roster move prior to Friday's game against the Reds.

Brewers' Brandon Sproat: Back in big leagues
The Brewers recalled Sproat from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
He'll join the 28-man active roster as a replacement in the bullpen for Grant Anderson (biceps), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Sproat has primarily operated as a starter between stops with Milwaukee and Nashville this season, but he made his most recent Triple-A appearance as a reliever. Manager Pat Murphy abruptly pulled the plug on Sproat on Monday, pulling the hurler in the middle of an at-bat following a pair of wild pitches. Sproat has really struggled to provide the Brewers with length during his debut season with the club, working fewer than five innings in 13 of his 21 outings. Sproat (3-6) took the loss Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings against the Giants. He struck out five.
The right-hander allowed a fair number of Giants hitters to reach and served up a two-run homer to Grant McCray in the fourth inning, but Sproat still managed to record a quality start despite taking the loss. The 25-year-old has delivered improved results of late, posting a 3.10 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across 29 innings in his past six outings. He'll take a 5.05 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 96:49 K:BB across 92.2 innings (20 appearances) into his next start, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Angels.

Brewers' Brandon Sproat: Falls despite limiting damage
Sproat (3-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings.
Sproat surrendered a solo homer to Jared Young in the third inning to open the scoring. He struggled to settle in, failing to record any 1-2-3 innings and allowing a runner to reach scoring position in every frame. He exited in the fifth after being dinged only by the early homer, but Chad Patrick allowed an inherited runner to score. The right-handed Sproat has now gone five straight starts without allowing more than two earned runs, though he has completed at least five innings in only two of those outings. He'll carry a 5.09 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 91:43 K:BB into his next scheduled start on the road against San Francisco.

Brewers' Brandon Sproat: Early exit in Saturday's matinee
Sproat didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out three.
The 25-year-old right-hander also plunked three batters and uncorked a wild pitch, getting the hook after 83 pitches (51 strikes) and forcing the Brewers to go to their bullpen much earlier than they wanted in the twin bill. Sproat has failed to get an out in the fifth frame in three of his last five starts, but he's still managed to put together a 3.68 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB over 22 innings during that stretch. His spot in the rotation is precarious, but Sproat sees likely to stick around for a while given the current state of Milwaukee's rotation, which recently had Jacob Misiorowski (fatigue) and Kyle Harrison (elbow) miss starts.

The two sides will make up Friday's contest during a doubleheader Saturday, and the Brewers will send Sproat to the mound to start Game 1, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Sproat allowed a run on five hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Sproat was inefficient Sunday, throwing 55 of 92 pitches for strikes in this short start. Since the beginning of June, he has allowed 11 runs over 30 innings across six starts. He's at a 5.13 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 84:37 K:BB across 79 innings through 17 games (15 starts) this season, but he's trending in the right direction. Sproat should remain in the rotation even with Logan Henderson (back) slated to return during the coming week, as Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) was shelved following his injury Saturday. Sproat is projected to make his next start at Pittsburgh.

Sproat (3-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Reds, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.
After serving up a solo homer to Sal Stewart in the first inning, Sproat settled in and held Cincinnati scoreless over the next four frames, including a stretch in which he struck out five of six batters faced. He allowed back-to-back doubles to open the sixth, plating another run before he exited. Sproat has been piling up strikeouts lately, recording 23 over his last 15 innings while issuing just four walks. He has also earned wins in back-to-back starts, both coming against Cincinnati. Sproat now owns a 5.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 80:34 K:BB across 75 innings. He is scheduled to face Arizona on the road Sunday in his second start of the week.

Sproat (2-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Reds, allowing one hit while striking out 10 over six scoreless innings.
Sproat turned in the best start of his young career, overpowering Cincinnati's lineup while carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before Jose Trevino lined a single to center field. The right-hander threw 58 of his 80 pitches for strikes and generated an impressive 18 swing-and-misses. His 10 strikeouts set a new career high, and he continued to show improved command by extending his streak to five consecutive starts with two or fewer walks. Sproat now owns a 5.43 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 73:32 K:BB across 69.2 innings this season and is lined up for a rematch against the Reds in his next start, this time at home.
