Edward Cabrera SP | CHC
Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Strong start wasted Friday
Cabrera came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-2 extra-inning loss to the Padres, allowing four hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out four.
The right-hander extended his shutout streak to 12 innings as he fired 64 of 106 pitches for strikes, but the Miami bullpen squandered a 2-0 lead as soon as Cabrera left the mound. Control remains an issue for the 26-year-old, but he's been able to work around the traffic he puts on the basepaths -- Cabrera has given up three runs or less in five straight starts, posting a 2.00 ERA over that stretch despite a less impressive 1.26 WHIP and 26:16 K:BB in 27 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend against the Mets.

Martin Perez SP | ATL
Padres' Martin Perez: Fans six in quality start
Perez came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-2 extra-inning win over the Marlins, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out six.
Both runs came on back-to-back solo shots by Jake Burger and Jonah Bride in the fourth inning, but otherwise Perez was sharp in his second outing for San Diego. The veteran southpaw tossed 90 pitches (58 strikes) en route to his third straight quality start and seventh of the year, but he was still on the hook for the loss until Jackson Merrill forced extra innings with a solo homer of his own in the ninth. Perez will look for his first win in a Padres uniform when he takes the mound next week at home against the Pirates -- the team that sent him west at the trade deadline.

Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Struggles against Dodgers
Keller (10-6) allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Dodgers.
Keller gave up home runs to Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani before the Dodgers added four more runs off singles. Keller has worked only four innings in each of his two August starts, but this one wasn't abbreviated by weather. The seven runs he allowed were a season high, inflating his ERA from 3.20 to 3.56. He's added a 1.22 WHIP and 123:38 K:BB over 136.1 innings across 23 starts. Keller will look to bounce back in a projected road outing versus the Padres.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Dodgers' Jack Flaherty: Racks up 10 strikeouts in win
Flaherty (9-5) allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out 10 over 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Pirates on Friday.
Flaherty allowed a solo shot to Oneil Cruz and a three-run home run to Joey Bart in the fifth. This was the first time in his last five starts that Flaherty gave up more than two runs, but the Dodgers gave him ample run support. The right-hander is now at a 2.97 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 150:21 K:BB through 118.1 innings over 20 starts between the Dodgers and the Tigers. Flaherty is projected for a tough road outing in Milwaukee for his next start.

Robbie Ray SP | SF
Giants' Robbie Ray: Decent in no-decision
Ray allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Tigers on Friday.
Ray delivered his longest outing of the season and earned his first quality start, though it wasn't exactly a dominating performance. He threw 66 of 105 pitches for strikes and avoided giving up a home run for the first time since his season debut July 24. Ray is now at a 3.98 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over 20.1 innings through four starts. He's projected for a tougher home outing versus Atlanta next week.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Mets' Jose Quintana: Strikes out eight in loss
Quintana (6-8) allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.2 innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Mariners.
Quintana was stuck with the loss for the third time in his last five starts. This was the second time in that span he's given up at least five runs, something he's done just four times all season. The veteran southpaw is up to a 4.10 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 102:46 K:BB through 125 innings over 23 starts this year. He's projected for a favorable home start versus the Athletics in his next outing.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Allows two runs in no-decision
Wheeler did not factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to Arizona, yielding two runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out eight.
Out of the seven hits the veteran right-hander allowed, only one went for extra bases -- a 393-foot solo homer by Joc Pederson in the third inning. With this 100-pitch outing, Wheeler collected his 17th quality start of the season and posted his sixth consecutive start with six or more punchouts. Over those six appearances, he has pitched to a 2.92 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB across 37 innings, despite coughing up seven runs July 29 against the Yankees. The 34-year-old lines up to make his next start against the Nationals at home next week.

Ryne Nelson SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Fans nine in no-decision
Nelson did not factor into the decision in Friday's win over Philadelphia, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 7.1 innings. He struck out nine.
The 26-year-old righty generated 14 whiffs en route to his nine punchouts, as he gathered his career-high eighth quality start of the season with this performance. Nelson impressively held a formidable Phillies lineup in check, with the only significant damage coming via a Bryce Harper 373-foot solo shot in the seventh inning. After pitching to a 4.98 ERA across 86.2 innings before the All-Star break, Nelson has been on a roll since, firing a 3.19 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 36:9 K:BB over 31 innings. Nelson is currently slated to make his next start against the Rays on the road.

Tanner Gordon P | COL
Rockies' Tanner Gordon: Impressive in no-decision
Gordon did not factor into the decision in Friday's win over Atlanta, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
It looked like the rookie right-hander was in for a long night after allowing a titanic 448-foot solo homer to Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. However, Gordon settled in nicely after that and collected a career-high seven punchouts in an 89-pitch performance. Overall, the 26-year-old has pitched to a 6.15 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB across 26.1 innings this season. He lines up to make his next start against the Diamondbacks on the road next week.

Aaron Civale SP | ATH
Brewers' Aaron Civale: Tallies first win with new club
Civale (3-8) earned the win Friday against the Reds, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.
The 29-year-old righty picked up his fifth quality start of the season with this 93-pitch effort. He had been cruising up until the seventh inning, when the Reds laced three consecutive hits, starting with a leadoff Spencer Steer homer. Cincinnati ran into an out at the plate on the third hit, a double, and then manager Pat Murphy lifted Civale. After arriving in a trade from Tampa Bay on July 3, he has pitched to a 4.88 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB over 31.1 innings. Civale currently lines up to face the Dodgers at home for his next start.
