  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Takes loss in quality start

Wheeler took the loss against the Nationals on Tuesday, allowing three runs over six innings on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

In his second start off the disabled list, Wheeler looked good in Tuesday's outing. He surrendered just two extra-base hits in six innings (both were doubles by Trea Turner), and he stretched it out to 99 pitches on the evening. Wheeler was limited to 17 starts last year due to injuries, and he's looking to earn a regular spot in the Mets' rotation with the return date for Jason Vargas (hand) looming. The 27-year-old will start Sunday against the Braves in Atlanta, but he could be replaced by Vargas in his following turn through the rotation.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Takes loss in quality start

Williams (3-1) struck out four and walked three in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies, giving up two runs on four hits in six innings.

Williams pitched well but was outdueled by Rockies starter Chad Bettis, taking his first loss of the season in a quality start. The two runs Williams allowed were on an RBI groundout by Carlos Gonzalez in the first and an RBI single by Ryan McMahon in the fourth. Through four starts, Williams has a 1.93 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:10 K:BB ratio. He'll head to Philadelphia for a weekend matchup with the Phillies.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Strong in no-decision

Wood gave up a run (none earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out seven over 5.1 innings Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning win over the Padres.

Wood was shelled in his previous start, so Tuesday's outing should help ease his owners' thoughts, even though he didn't end up with the victory. The southpaw was aggresive against a light-hitting Padres squad while throwing first-pitch strikes to 15 of the 20 batters he faced, finishing with 50 strikes to just 27 balls at the end of his night. Wood will look to pick up his first win of the season in another favorable matchup against the Marlins on Monday.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Gets first win Tuesday

Wainwright (1-2) got the win Tuesday, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings against the Cubs.

Wainwright also hit a pair of batters and put at least one runner on base in all five innings. The veteran induced just three groundball outs versus seven flyouts, but he was able to keep the ball in the yard this time after yielding two home runs his last time out. The 36-year-old has posted an ERA north of 4.60 each of the past two seasons, and his underlying numbers this year suggest his 3.45 ERA is ripe for regression. He's slated to take the hill again next Tuesday against the Mets.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Dominates Diamondbacks in first start back from DL

Cueto (ankle) got a hard-luck no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, giving up just two hits over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking none in San Francisco's 1-0 defeat to Arizona.

Cueto was dominant in his first start coming off the disabled list and was unlucky to be on the short end of what turned out to be the pitching duel of the season so far with counterpart Patrick Corbin. Even though it was disappointing to see him not get a win after posting such a brilliant stat line, it's still been an extremely encouraging start to the season for Cueto, who has given up just one earned run in his first 20 innings after a disappointing campaign last year that saw him post a 4.52 ERA. He certainly looks poised for a bounce-back and he'll carry a brilliant 0.45 ERA and 0.65 WHIP into his next start against the Angels on Sunday.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Brilliant in one-hit shutout of Giants

Corbin (3-0) was absolutely brilliant against the Giants on Tuesday, throwing a complete game one-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one in Arizona's 1-0 victory over San Francisco.

It was truly a masterful performance from the 28-year-old left-hander, who narrowly missed out on a no-hitter after an infield single by Brandon Belt broke up his bid for history in the eighth inning. It was the continuation of what has been a ballistic start to the season for Corbin, who now has a 1.65 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 37:5 K:BB in 27.1 innings. Injuries have prevented Corbin from ever consistently reaching his lofty potential, but so far in 2018, he has the look of a pitcher who is fully healthy and primed to make the most of his talent. He'll look to continue his torrid start in an inviting matchup against the Padres on Sunday.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Throws 37 pitches Tuesday

Miley (groin) allowed two unearned runs on four hits with two strikeouts over 2.2 innings for Double-A Biloxi on Tuesday.

Since Miley isn't on Milwaukee's 40-man roster, his outing in Biloxi should be viewed as an unofficial rehab assignment, as he made his first game appearance since suffering a groin strain nearly a month earlier in spring training. The 31-year-old reached his limit with 37 pitches Tuesday and will likely need at least two more minor-league starts to build up his stamina before the Brewers consider adding him to the MLB roster.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Diagnosed with UCL injury

An examination of Walker's forearm Tuesday revealed that he's dealing with a UCL injury, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

While it's known that Walker suffered a UCL injury, manager Torey Lovullo was unsure if it's a tear. Per Gilbert, Walker is scheduled to receive a second opinion on the injury in New York in the coming days, after which it should be revealed how the righty will proceed and whether or not he'll require surgery.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Brought off disabled list

Cueto (ankle) was activated from the DL prior to Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

As expected, Cueto was removed from the disabled list and is starting for Tuesday's matchup against Arizona. After missing a week and a half to a sprained ankle, Cueto will aim to continue his strong start to the season. Over two games (13 innings) he's allowed just one run on nine hits and two walks.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Scheduled for three bullpen sessions

Musgrove (shoulder) will throw three bullpen sessions before heading out on a rehab assignment, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.

The right-hander is expected to throw 25-30 fastballs in his next bullpen session Thursday. Musgrove still needs to be built back up to a starter's workload, so it seems like he won't be back in the Pirates' rotation until late May or early June.
