  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Strikes out eight in loss

Hendricks (6-9) struck out eight and walked two in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.

Hendricks matched a season-high with eight strikeouts, but needed 106 pitches (67 strikes) to get through five innings. In six of his last seven starts, Hendricks has failed to complete six innings, and his ERA now stands at 4.05 on the year. His batting average against (.257) and WHIP (1.26) are the highest of his career while his strikeout rate (7.1 K/9) is his lowest since 2014. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Scheduled for live batting practice Saturday

Eickhoff (lat) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

The session will come in Clearwater, Florida, where Eickhoff hopes to remain for about two weeks while on assignment with the Phillies' High-A team. He hasn't pitched all year due to a lat strain and has had multiple setbacks, so it's difficult to trust that he'll be able to make it back this time around. The Phillies will hope that his latest cortisone injection will solve the tingling sensations in his fingers and allow him to finally work his way back to game action.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Rough outing Tuesday

Teheran (7-7) allowed nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits over 4.1 innings to take the loss against Miami on Tuesday. He struck out three and walked two.

Teheran managed to throw 44 of 70 pitches for strikes but served up two- and three-run home runs to highlight a poor showing. The 27-year-old has a 4.42 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 101:53 K:BB across 110 innings, and will look for a bounce-back performance against the Marlins next Monday.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Nearing rehab assignment

Ryu (groin) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Ryu has been out since May 2 with a groin strain. Given the length of his absence, his rehab assignment could last for several outings, leaving him still a few weeks away from returning.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Confirmed as Wednesday's starter

Buehler will start Wednesday against the Phillies, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.

As expected, Buehler will be called up to make his first start of the second half. The 23-year-old may have his workload limited in the second half, but he'll be an effective fantasy starter when he pitches.

  • Ranger Suarez SP | BOS

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Set for debut Thursday

Suarez will be called up to start Thursday against the Reds, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

The start will be Suarez's major-league debut. He reached Triple-A for the first time in late June and has recorded an 0.57 ERA in three starts for Lehigh Valley after posting a 2.76 ERA in 12 starts for Double-A Reading. Suarez projects as a back-end starter as a smaller lefty with no standout pitches, though his recent success could hint at a higher ceiling.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Demoted to Triple-A

Woodruff was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

Woodruff has a 4.80 ERA in 30 innings for the Brewers this season. He could be up again in a swingman role throughout the season. He'll make way for Junior Guerra (forearm), who was activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Nationals.

  • Luke Farrell RP | WAS

Cubs' Luke Farrell: Sent down after poor start

Farrell was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Farrell was called on to make a spot start Monday against Arizona and failed to get the job done, allowing six runs in 3.1 innings. He could return to Chicago as a spot starter or long-relief man later in the season, though his 5.28 career ERA in 44.1 major-league innings gives little reason for optimism.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Could start Monday

Martinez (oblique) could start Monday against the Rockies, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Martinez will play catch Tuesday, and if all goes well, he will return to elevated ground Friday. A right oblique strain put Martinez on the DL last weekend after he previously dealt with a lat issue, but it sounds like he may only miss one turn this time around.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Dazzles in rehab outing

Fried (finger) tossed 6.2 scoreless innings and struck out 10 in his rehab start Monday for Double-A Mississippi. He gave up just one hit and one walk during the outing.

Fried had been expected to come off the 10-day disabled list to start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, but the Braves felt the young lefty could benefit from a second rehab appearance before rejoining the big club. The lefty didn't seem to be affected by the blister on his left middle finger that previously resulted in his shutdown before the All-Star break, as he induced plenty of swings and misses and weak contact during the Double-A start while tossing 61 of 86 pitches for strikes. He'll likely re-enter the Atlanta rotation over the weekend against the Dodgers or when a fifth starter is first needed July 30 versus the Marlins.
