  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Lasts just one inning

Mahle took a no-decision Thursday despite allowing three runs on six hits and a walk in just one inning in the loss to Philadelphia. He struck out three and allowed a pair of home runs.

Mahle needed 53 pitches and faced 10 batters while recording just three outs in the forgettable outing. The 23-year-old has raised his ERA from 3.83 to 4.53 after a few ugly starts in July, allowing 11 runs in just eight innings over his two previous previous starts. Mahle will take the mound in Detroit on Wednesday.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Gets fourth win

Matz (5-8) allowed four earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out nine across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the Pirates.

Matz put together a start full of mixed signals as he only allowed five baserunners and also struck out a season-best nine batters across his six innings. However, two of the three hits he surrendered were home runs, accounting for all four of his earned runs. All told, he has allowed 12 earned runs across his last 17.1 innings -- spanning three starts -- causing his ERA to jump from 3.31 to 3.79.

  • Ranger Suarez SP | BOS

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Heading back to Triple-A after debut

Suarez was optioned back to Triple-A Lehigh after his start Thursday against the Reds. He picked up the win but allowed four earned runs over five innings.

Suarez ran into some trouble in his big-league debut, giving up a pair of home runs against a surging Reds offense. The Phillies' offense picked him up, however, and Suarez was able to limit the damage and put himself in position to pick up the win. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he has a 0.57 ERA and over three starts. The Phillies have a deep and talented rotation, so if that group remains intact, Suarez's services may not be needed by the big league club until September.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Fires seven strong innings in victory

Hill (4-4) tossed seven shutout innings Thursday, striking out eight and allowing just three hits and a walk in the 8-2 win over Atlanta.

It was one of Hill's best starts of the season as he lowered his season ERA to 3.82. The 38-year-old lefty has won his last two starts and has once again proven to be a strong fantasy starter when healthy. He'll carry a 77:25 K:BB into his start against Milwaukee on Tuesday.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: MRI clean, but still visiting specialist

An MRI taken on Strasburg's injured neck did not reveal any injuries, but he is also seeing a neurologist in order to discover more about his setback, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

The MRI results are good news for Strasburg, but it appears the team still wants to garner more information, and a timeline for his return has still not been established. That could be determined after the results of his latest trip to the doctor become available, however.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Tosses simulated game

Ryu (groin) threw a two-inning simulated game Wednesday and will pitch a three-inning simulated game Saturday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

If all goes well during Saturday's session, Ryu will likely start a rehab assignment next week. The left-hander is expected to require multiple games at the minor-league level before he's able to come off the 60-day DL, so a mid-August return seems to be the target at this point.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Set for bullpen session Friday

Martinez (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Martinez tested out his strained right oblique by playing catch off flat ground Tuesday and will take another step forward when he resumes mound work Friday. If the bullpen session goes as expected, Martinez would likely be cleared to come off the 10-day disabled list when first eligible to start Monday at home against the Rockies. Martinez's potential return would likely result in Austin Gomber, who shined in a spot start Tuesday against the Reds, shifting to the bullpen.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Padres' Jordan Lyles: Hit hard in second rehab outing

Lyles (forearm) made his second rehab start at Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and was lit up for seven runs on eight hits and two walks over three innings.

Lyles had the misfortune of pitching in one of the minors' least-forgiving environments in Colorado Springs, but the Padres were still probably hoping for better results from the right-hander, who is working his way back from a bout of forearm inflammation. He tossed only 33 of his 56 pitches for strikes in the outing and will likely need one or two more turns in the minors before he's ready to handle a starter's workload for the big club.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: Goes eight innings at Triple-A

Toussaint struck out eight over eight scoreless innings Wednesday in Triple-A Gwinnett's 5-0 win over Lehigh Valley. He allowed two hits and issued four walks in the 103-pitch outing.

Toussaint hasn't faced much resistance since moving up to Gwinnett earlier this month, as he's submitted a 1.77 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .176 average through his first three International League starts. The 22-year-old is one of several high-upside arms lingering in the higher levels of the Atlanta system, but he'll likely have to wait behind Gwinnett mates Luiz Gohara and Kolby Allard for an eventual promotion to the big-league rotation.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Start pushed to Monday

Teheran's next start has been pushed to Monday against the Marlins, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.

While he gets an easier matchup against Miami than he would have had if he'd stayed on schedule Sunday against the Dodgers, this denies his owners of a two-start week. Max Fried (finger) will be inserted into the rotation Saturday, giving Sean Newcomb and Teheran an extra day of rest.
