  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Exits outing with apparent injury

Martinez was lifted from Monday's game against the Rockies after appearing to suffer a right side injury, Brian Stull of Stlbaseballweekly.com reports. He tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while fanning nine as he didn't factor into the decision.

Martinez was cruising right along until he suffered another injury during his first outing back from the disabled list. He was just activated from the DL prior to Monday's start after missing time due to a right oblique strain. The severity of the injury is unknown, but more news on Martinez's status should emerge in the near future.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Likely to require Tommy John surgery

Manager Bruce Bochy stated there's a "strong possibility" that Cueto (elbow) will need Tommy John surgery, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

If Cueto decides to undergo surgery on his throwing elbow, he'll miss the remainder of the 2018 campaign, and likely the entire 2019 season while rehabbing. The next step for Cueto figures to be decided within the next few days.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Headed to DL

Stripling was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday due to a toe injury, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

It's unclear as to when Stripling suffered the injury, but he'll be sidelined for at least 10 days, and Dylan Floro will get the call from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Manager Dave Roberts stated Stripling will require between 10-to-12 days days on the shelf before returning to action, per J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Heads to DL

Cueto was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a right elbow strain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

As expected, Cueto will require another stint on the disabled list after feeling pain in his throwing elbow during his last start against Milwaukee on Saturday. It appears likely that he'll miss more than the minimum, given he was shelved for two months with an elbow strain earlier in the season, though more news on his status should be revealed following further evaluation.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Officially activated from DL

Martinez (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day DL prior to Monday's start against Colorado.

As expected, Martinez will rejoin the rotation after missing just one start due to a right oblique strain. Don't expect him to face any strict limitations after successfully tossing a bullpen session Friday. Across 17 starts this year, Martinez has logged a 3.39 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 8.4 K/9.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

Braves' Kyle Wright: Moved up to Gwinnett

Wright was called up to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, Jon Heyman of Fancred reports.

Wright had logged a 3.70 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 20 starts for Double-A Mississippi at the time of this promotion. In addition, he posted a 105:43 K:BB with a 0.5 HR/9 through 109.1 innings. The 22-year-old right-hander will get his first taste of action at the Triple-A level in the coming days. Wright employs a mid-90s fastball to go along with a plus curveball and slider. He will take Kolby Allard's spot in the rotation.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Nationals' Tommy Milone: Picking up another start

Milone will remain in the Nationals rotation for at least one more turn and will make his next start Wednesday against the Mets, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.

Milone was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse and gave up three runs over five innings Thursday against the Marlins in his season debut with the Nationals. While the results weren't remarkable, he fared well enough to earn another outing with Stephen Strasburg (neck) still on the mend. Strasburg was expected to resume throwing Sunday and could be ready to rejoin the rotation as soon as next week, which would likely spell an end to Milone's time as a starter.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Return to DL expected

Cueto (elbow) is expected to return to the disabled list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Cueto felt pain in his elbow during his most recent start against Milwaukee on Saturday and was throwing with decreased velocity. He had been poor over four starts since returning in early July from a two-month absence due to an elbow strain, posting a 6.86 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP. His next steps will become clearer after a reevaluation in the next few days, but surgery remains a possibility.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Seven strong innings

Hendricks (7-9) allowed two earned runs on four hits and no walks while striking out eight across seven innings to earn the win Sunday against the Cardinals.

Hendricks generated 15 of his 21 outs via either groundball or strikeout and threw 107 pitches to complete his seven frames. While he has mixed results in the span, Hendricks has struck out eight batters in three of his last five starts after failing to whiff more than seven batters through his first 17 of the season. Perhaps more importantly, he has allowed only three walks and three home runs across his last 21.2 innings, lending some optimism that he can close the season in better form.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Allows five earned runs

Lucchesi (5-6) allowed five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.1 innings to take the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Lucchesi was derailed by home runs from Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock and Nick Ahmed, marking the first time since his return from the disabled list June 20 that he has allowed multiple homers in an outing. While he has a respectable 3.74 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 77 innings this season, he has failed to pitch more than 5.1 innings in each of his seven starts since June 20. That has limited his potential to win games and rack up strikeouts, diminishing his overall value.
