  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Picks up sixth straight win

Wheeler (8-6) picked up the win Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing one run on five hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out three.

The Mets exploded for 14 runs through the first six innings, allowing Wheeler to cruise to his sixth straight victory. Over that six-start stretch, the 28-year-old owns a shiny 2.04 ERA and 37:8 K:BB across 39.2 innings. Next up is a home start against the Giants.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Blasted by Astros

Anderson (6-5) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up nine runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.1 innings while striking out four in a 12-1 loss to the Astros.

The southpaw didn't even have Coors Field as an excuse for his disastrous line, as the game was in Houston. The southpaw's ERA jumped nearly half a run as a result of Wednesday's performance, and he'll carry a 4.39 mark into his next start Tuesday at home against the Padres.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Chased early by Red Sox

Velasquez didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Red Sox, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over 2.1 innings while striking out two.

After getting through the first two frames without too much trouble, Velasquez fell apart in the third, loading the bases on a walk, a HBP and an infield single before serving up a double to Mitch Moreland. He then walked the next two batters to get the hook, finishing his outing having thrown only 31 of 63 pitches for strikes. Velasquez has only pitched past the fifth inning once in his last four starts with a rough 15:12 K:BB in 17.2 innings. He'll try to turn things around in his next outing Tuesday on the road against the Nationals.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Next rehab appearance set

Wainwright (elbow) will make his second rehab appearance with High-A Palm Beach on Thursday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander worked one frame for Palm Beach on Monday, getting through his inning on just nine pitches but then firing 11 more in the bullpen following his outing. Wainwright may eventually move his rehab to the Triple-A level, but it looks like the Cardinals are focused on easing back him into action following such a long layoff.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Braves' Kevin Gausman: Quality start in win over Marlins

Gausman (7-9) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out two.

The right-hander is enjoying life in a Braves uniform, winning two of his first three starts for Atlanta with a 2.84 ERA and 12:4 K:BB in 19 innings. Gausman will next take the mound Monday in Pittsburgh.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Ejected after one pitch

Urena hit Ronald Acuna with the first pitch of Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Braves, causing a benches-clearing brawl that resulted in the pitcher's ejection from the game.

Major League Baseball will likely review the incident to determine whether or not Urena warrants a suspension for the plunking. He'll tentatively line up to make his next start Wednesday against the Yankees.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Fires six scoreless

Gomber (3-0) got the win Wednesday, firing six shutout innings with six strikeouts while allowing three hits and four walks against the Nationals.

Gomber was in command in this one, and though he allowed a runner to reach scoring position in each of his final three innings, he was able to stifle the threat without any damage each time. The rookie has now tossed 11 straight scoreless innings with nine strikeouts over the past two outings, lowering his ERA to an impressive 2.89 through 37.1 innings. Given his recent performances and the fact that the Cardinals are electing to slot Carlos Martinez (shoulder) into the bullpen upon his return, Gomber figures to stick around in the rotation. Next up is a road start Monday against the Dodgers.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Picks up win against Brewers

Hendricks (9-9) picked up the win Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight across six innings.

Hendricks was able to keep the Brewers in check for the most part in this one, allowing just two extra-base hits while matching his season-high strikeout total. The right-hander hasn't been dominant in August (5.09 ERA in three starts), but he's picked up a pair of wins thanks to some solid run support, which was the case again Wednesday as the Cubs piled up seven runs through the first four innings. Next up will be a road start against the lowly Tigers on Tuesday.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Headed to disabled list

Stripling (back) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Stripling said his L4 and L5 discs are worn and smashed together -- something that dates back to college -- though he added that the issue isn't anything overly serious. An MRI showed no structural damage, and the right-hander is hoping to be activated when first eligible next Friday (Aug. 24).

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Activated ahead of start

Ryu (groin) was activated from the 60-day disabled list and confirmed as the starter Wednesday against the Giants.

Ryu is set to rejoin the starting rotation after spending more than three months on the disabled list with a groin injury. Prior to landing on the shelf, the 31-year-old compiled a shiny 2.12 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB across six starts (29.2 innings).
