Jameson Taillon SP | TOR
Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Continues playing catch
Taillon (elbow) was playing catch from about 90 feet Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Taillon will throw again Wednesday before resting Thursday, and he is expected to resume throwing everyday from that point. The 27-year-old has been on the injured list since early May with the flexor strain in his right elbow and still has significant work to do before making his way back to the majors.

Rich Hill SP | KC
Dodgers' Rich Hill: Beginning throwing program
Hill (forearm) is scheduled to play catch Thursday for the first time since going on the injured list June 20, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Hill initially said it would be 3-to-4 weeks before he returned to throwing, so his recovery appears to be right on schedule. The veteran left-hander is expected to throw from 60 feet for the next two weeks before ramping up his progression. He is hoping to rejoin the Dodgers sometime in September.

Johnny Cueto SP | LAA
Giants' Johnny Cueto: Nearing rehab games
Cueto (elbow) is expected to start pitching in rehab games in early August with the Giants' AZL affiliate, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Cueto has been slowly ramping up his throwing in bullpen sessions over the last few months as he makes his way back from August 2018 Tommy John surgery, and he may already have advanced to facing live hitters, per Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. If he can avoid any setbacks, the 33-year-old will have a chance to rejoin the Giants for the final month of the season.

Kevin Gausman SP | CHC
Braves' Kevin Gausman: Advances rehab to Triple-A
Gausman (foot) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.
Gausman has missed over a month with plantar fasciitis. He's made two rehab starts so far, allowing four runs (three earned) in 11 innings while recording a 9:1 K:BB. He already reached six innings in his most recent rehab outing, so there's a good chance Tuesday's appearance will be his final one before he's back in the big leagues.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: MRI results encouraging
Wheeler (shoulder) said that his MRI results were "pretty much clean," Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Wheeler was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with what the Mets termed shoulder fatigue, though he referred to the issue as an impingement. Regardless of the exact nature of the injury, both Wheeler and the Mets seem to expect his absence to be a brief one.

Steven Matz RP | TB
Mets' Steven Matz: Limited to 80 pitches
Matz won't throw more than 80 pitches in his start Tuesday against the Twins, Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports reports.
Matz hasn't started a game since June 29 and hasn't pitched five innings since June 19, so it's not particularly surprising to see him on a pitch count. The short hook hurts Matz's chance at a win and hurts his chances of recording a high strikeout total.

Juan Nicasio SP | TEX
Phillies' Juan Nicasio: Back from injury
Nicasio (groin) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Nicasio wound up missing slightly longer than the minimum with a left groin strain. He recorded an unimpressive 5.24 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 34.1 innings prior to suffering the injury. Yacksel Rios was optioned in a corresponding move.
-
Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Lands on injured list
Fried (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Fried left his start Monday against the Brewers with a blister, and the issue is evidently serious enough for him to skip his next start. Bryse Wilson was recalled in a corresponding move to start Tuesday's game, but the Braves have yet to announce who will take Fried's spot Saturday against the Nationals.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Tracking toward brief absence
Wheeler's bout with shoulder fatigue isn't viewed as a serious concern and he's expected to result in a minimum-length stay on the 10-day injured list, Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports reports.
While it's not overly reassuring that Wheeler needed to be shut down despite getting some extended rest with the All-Star break, a source tells Ehalt that the Mets are exercising caution with the right-hander more than anything. Assuming Wheeler is feeling good after another week of rest, he could rejoin the rotation as soon as July 23. That would put Wheeler on track to make two showcase starts before the July 31 trade deadline.
