Pablo Lopez SP | MIN
Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Could resume rehab stint
Lopez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is close to resuming his rehab assignment, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander got pulled from an assignment at Double-A Jacksonville last Wednesday after coughing up five runs in 2.2 innings, but he's thrown two bullpen sessions since and apparently looked better. "Right now, we're just talking about getting him sharp again," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "That's the biggest thing. He's had enough time off, where, coming off the shoulder thing. It's just a matter of getting him back into game mode." Lopez hasn't pitched in the majors since mid-June, and there's still no firm timetable for him to return to the Marlins' rotation.

Jose Urena SP | LAA
Marlins' Jose Urena: Could return as reliever
Urena (back) threw 24 pitches using his entire arsenal in a bullpen session Tuesday, and the Marlins have discussed using him as a reliever once he's activated from the injured list, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. "The hardest thing is getting the starter built up to throw 90 pitches or so," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said after the session. "We've talked about different options for Jose. Possibly out of the bullpen. But the main thing right now with him is getting him built up. Getting him strong, and then we'll make that decision."
The right-hander is still at least a couple of weeks away from rejoining the staff, but if the Marlins do decide to use Urena in relief it would shorten the length of his eventual rehab stint. The team's Opening Day starter in 2018 and 2019, Urena has a 4.70 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB through 74.2 innings this season.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: No decision once again
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Twins, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks over five innings while striking out four.
The right-hander continues to struggle with his efficiency, and working deep into games. Anderson has completed six innings only once in his last 12 starts, and while his 3.77 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB through 62 innings over that stretch are solid, he has only a 2-1 record to show for it. Anderson will try to get back in the win column for the first time since July 17 in his next outing Sunday, on the road against the Nationals.

Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Padres' Eric Lauer: Allows three runs in no-decision
Lauer did not factor into the decision against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, completing five innings and giving up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four.
Lauer was shaky early, giving up single runs in the first two innings, but settled down to allow only one more tally the rest of the way. He exited the game staked to a one-run lead but was denied a victory when the San Diego bullpen allowed four runs over the final four frames. Lauer now owns a 4.55 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 114.2 innings this season and will head to Cincinnati to face the Reds on Monday in his next scheduled start.

Trevor Williams RP | TEX
Pirates' Trevor Williams: Labors through five innings in win
Williams (5-5) was credited with the win against the Angels on Tuesday, tossing five innings and giving up five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out two.
Williams was far from effective in his five innings, allowing four extra-base hits and a season-high five walks, but managed to pitch just well enough to even his record. He gave up a trio of first-inning runs on three hits and two free passes, then surrendered single tallies in the second and third frames. To his credit, he kept his composure to retire six of seven batters over his final two innings, walking away with the win as a result of the Pirates rallying for four runs in their half of the fifth. Williams has now given up 14 earned runs in 16 innings over his last three starts to raise his season ERA to 5.25. He'll head home to face the Nationals on Monday in his next scheduled start.

Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Tosses four innings in no-decision
Gallen threw four innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Tuesday, giving up two earned runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking one in a 9-3 victory for the Diamondbacks.
He did well to limit the damage despite allowing 10 baserunners, but Gallen couldn't quite meet the five-inning threshold that would have qualified him for a second straight win since joining the Diamondbacks. Still, Gallen is posting solid numbers over his 45.1 innings between Arizona and Miami this season, as he's now sporting a 2.58 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 52:22 K:BB. The 24-year-old lines up to take on the Giants at home in his next start on Sunday.

Carlos Martinez SP | SF
Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Bags 13th save
Martinez got the save against the Royals on Tuesday, working around a hit to record two outs and close out the Cardinals' 2-0 victory. He didn't record a walk or a strikeout.
Martinez allowed a base hit after entering with one out in the ninth inning, but he made sure it didn't matter, coming back to record a two-out save for his 13th of the season in 16 opportunities. The right-hander's 3.41 ERA and 1.26 WHIP still aren't at the level of a truly elite closer, but he seems to have a comfortable grasp on the role, and has now yielded just one earned run over his last seven appearances.

Jack Flaherty SP | DET
Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Dominates again in win
Flaherty (6-6) got the win against the Royals on Tuesday, tossing seven scoreless innings while yielding just three hits, striking out seven and walking one in the Cardinals' 2-0 victory.
Flaherty had his struggles earlier in the season, but he's been lights out of late, as he's now tossed 21 straight scoreless innings and posted a 26:4 K:BB over his last three starts. He's lowered his ERA to a solid 3.52 mark over that stretch, to go along with a 1.10 WHIP and 157:42 K:BB over 135.1 innings. The right-hander will look to keep it rolling in his next start, which will see him take on the Reds in a Sunday road matchup.
-
Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Extends winning streak to five
Fried (14-4) picked up the win in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over the Mets, allowing one run on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out four.
The lefty won his fifth straight start while delivering his 12th quality start of the season. Fried now sports a 3.99 ERA and 126:38 K:BB through 126.1 innings, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next outing Sunday, at home against the Dodgers.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Ambushed by Atlanta
Wheeler (9-7) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up five runs on 12 hits and two walks over five innings while striking out two as the Mets fell 5-3 to Atlanta.
The dozen hits were the most Wheeler has allowed in any start this season, and he saw both his 15-inning scoreless streak and three-game winning streak snapped on a tough night. The right-hander will carry a 4.36 ERA and 151:37 K:BB through 144.1 innings into his next outing Sunday in Kansas City.
