Patrick Corbin SP | TOR
Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Ends season with another loss
Corbin (2-7) allowed three runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three over seven innings in a loss to the Mets on Thursday.
There was a lot of traffic on the bases, and while Corbin was able to work around that traffic early, the Mets ultimately cashed in for three runs against the lefty in the fifth and sixth innings. Corbin ends his disappointing 2020 campaign with a 4.66 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB in 65.2 frames. He saw a big velocity dip across the board, and that's especially concerning for a 31-year-old with a history of elbow trouble.

Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
Padres' Mike Clevinger: Targeting possible NLCS return
The Padres are targeting a potential NLCS appearance for Clevinger (elbow) to return, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Heyman added that if all goes perfectly, the right-hander could return for the NL Division Series should the Padres advance. That being said, it sounds like San Diego will most likely need to make it through two rounds for Clevinger to take the mound this postseason.

Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Leaves start with back discomfort
Burnes exited Thursday's start against the Cardinals with lower-back discomfort, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Burnes initially talked his way into staying in the game after a visit from trainers, but he was ultimately removed with two outs in the fourth. Initial reports indicated the right-hander was displaying discomfort with his pitching hand, but it now appears that his back was the issue. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, manager Craig Counsell said the club would have a better idea of Burnes' status Friday. Should the Brewers qualify for the postseason, they will certainly hope Burnes can pitch one of their games in the wild-card round.

Johan Oviedo SP | BOS
Cardinals' Johan Oviedo: Called up by St. Louis
Oviedo was recalled by the Cardinals on Thursday.
Oviedo was called up by the Cardinals as they prepare to play five games in four days to end the regular season. He's worked solely as a starter in his first five major-league outings, but he should come out of the bullpen to finish the regular season since the Cardinals have confirmed their starters for the rest of the week. The right-hander carries a 5.47 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 24.2 innings this year.

Carlos Martinez SP | SF
Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Lands on injured list
Martinez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain Thursday.
Martinez suffered an injury during Wednesday's start against the Royals, and he'll miss time after being diagnosed with a left oblique strain. Thr right-hander struggled during the abbreviated 2020 season, posting a 9.90 ERA and 2.10 WHIP over 20 innings across five starts. It's unclear whether he could be available if the Cardinals make a playoff run.
-
Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Brewers' Eric Lauer: Recalled by Brewers
Lauer was recalled by the Brewers on Thursday.
Lauer spent a week at the Brewers' alternate training site, but he'll return to the major-league roster and provide a multi-inning option for manager Craig Counsell as the team prepares to play five games in four days to end the regular season. The southpaw has made three appearances (two starts) this year, allowing 13 runs over 9.1 innings.

Freddy Peralta SP | TB
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Placed on paternity list
Peralta was placed on the paternity list Thursday.
Peralta has pitched well recently as he's allowed just one run over his last five appearances while earning two wins during that time. He'll take a few days off after the birth of his child. Players usually spend approximately three days on the paternity list, so it's unclear whether he'll return during the regular season. However, he could be available out of the bullpen if the Brewers qualify for the postseason. Left-hander Eric Lauer was recalled in a corresponding move.

Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
Padres' Mike Clevinger: Could return in playoffs
Clevinger's initial diagnosis is a sprained right elbow, but the Padres are holding out hope that he will be able to pitch at some point in the postseason, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The initial MRI and X-rays revealed an elbow sprain, but some initial feedback from experts has provided optimism that Clevinger could pitch at some point in October. The Padres will probably need to advance past the first round, at least, before Clevinger could be an option in the rotation.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Will start Game 1
General manager Alex Anthopoulos told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Thursday that Fried (ankle) will be ready to start the Braves' first game of the playoffs.
He was pulled from Wednesday's start as a precautionary measure after he tweaked his ankle, but the minor injury will not affect his availability for the postseason. Atlanta will be leaning heavily on Fried during these playoffs, as their next best starting pitchers are all rookies.

Austin Gomber SP | TEX
Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Starting regular-season finale
Gomber will start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Brewers, the Associated Press reports.
The left-hander came through impressively in his spot start Tuesday against the Royals, firing six scoreless innings while helping the Cardinals secure a key win. Gomber will thus be entrusted with what could be a critical final game of the season, one St. Louis may need to win in order to secure a postseason berth. The 26-year-old will head into that outing with an impressive 1.80 ERA and 24 strikeouts across 25 innings over 13 appearances (three starts).
