Syndergaard (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

It marked the right hander's first time throwing off a mound since he suffered a setback in his recovery from Tommy John surgery in late May. While resuming mound work is a huge step for Syndergaard, he still figures to be multiple weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment, which means he's unlikely to rejoin the major-league roster until early September. Given those time constraints, the Mets have already alluded to the possibility of the 28-year-old serving in a relief role when he returns.

Manager Luis Rojas said Tuesday that the club is "pretty optimistic" Carrassco (hamstring) will be activated to start Friday against the Reds, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

It was reported Monday that the right-hander had a strong chance of making his season debut over the weekend, and now it appears that the veteran starter will take the ball Friday so long as he's given final clearance by the club's medical staff. The Mets will likely announce an official plan in the coming days, but if the 34-year-old does indeed start Friday, Rich Hill's next outing would likely be pushed to Saturday or Sunday. Carrasco is almost certain to be on some sort of strict pitch count in his return, given that he's yet to throw more than three innings in any of his rehab outings.

Anderson was seen throwing in the Pirates' bullpen before Tuesday's game, as his trade to Philadelphia doesn't appear to have gone through yet, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, an issue cropped up with one of the two players being sent to Pittsburgh in the agreement -- Cristian Hernandez or Abrahan Gutierrez -- leaving Anderson's status in flux until the issue is rectified or the deal is nixed altogether. More details about the trade figure to become available later Tuesday.

Strasburg will undergo neurogenic thoracic outlet surgery Wednesday and will not pitch again this season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

The issue helps explain why Strasburg had multiple setbacks as he attempted to work his way back from a neck strain. The 33-year-old will end the year having made just five starts, not much more than the two he managed last season. The Nationals hope he's able to return around the start of spring training, but a full recovery can't be guaranteed, as thoracic outlet syndrome has had a significant negative impact on the careers of many pitchers, most notably Matt Harvey. Given Strasburg's extensive injury history, it will be difficult to have much optimism about him during draft season.

Anderson was traded from the Pirates to the Phillies in exchange for Cristian Hernandez and Abrahan Gutierrez on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Anderson will head east along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in a deal which was rumored to be close earlier in the day, when Anderson was scratched from what would have been his final start as a Pirate. Exactly what Anderson has to offer the Phillies is unclear, but all he has to do is be better than Matt Moore (5.79 ERA) or Vince Velasquez (5.54 ERA) to improve the team's playoff chances. Anderson's 4.35 ERA on the season suggests that's an easy bar to clear, but he's one of the pitchers whose spin rate dropped noticeably after the league started cracking down on foreign substances. He'll also be moving from one of the league's more pitcher-friendly parks to one of its more hitter-friendly venues, which could hurt his fantasy value.

Anderson won't start Tuesday against the Brewers as previously scheduled, as he's expected to be traded to the Phillies, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

A replacement starter has yet to be announced. The deal is not quite official, but the Pirates have no need to risk the lefty getting hurt Tuesday with the trade seemingly close to the finish line. The specifics of the move have not yet been announced. Anderson hasn't been anything special, and his spin rate has fallen noticeably since the league began cracking down on foreign substances, but the bar to improve the back end of the Phillies' roster is quite low for a contender. While Anderson could have a better shot at wins due to increased run support, that could be more than offset by a big downgrade in park factors if he does indeed move to Philadelphia.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Rogers (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Rogers was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday after experiencing lower-back muscle spasms, but per Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com, manager Don Mattingly expressed optimism that he'll be ready to be activated after the minimum 10 days. The Marlins have made it known that they intend to monitor the workloads of their young pitchers carefully in the second half, so Rogers could still be a candidate to have some of his starts skipped or have his innings restricted over the final two months of the season even if he stays healthy.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that Lopez (shoulder) will initiate throwing off flat ground later this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Lopez seems to have made some progress in his recovery from a right rotator cuff strain since being placed on the injured list a week and a half ago, but he still has several more hurdles to clear in the rehab process before the Marlins will consider reinstating him. At this point, fantasy managers shouldn't bank on Lopez returning until mid-August at the earliest, which may make it difficult to justify holding him in leagues with limited IL or bench spots.

Eickhoff will be recalled to start Tuesday's game against Atlanta, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Eickhoff was DFA'd by New York on July 20, and per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, he re-signed with the Mets on Tuesday after electing free agency earlier in the week. Eichoff has made four previous appearances (three starts) in the majors this season, posting a 4.96 ERA and 9:5 K:BB across 16.1 innings. He most recently lasted just 3.2 innings in his latest outing against the Reds on July 19, but he could have an outside chance of qualifying for a potential win Tuesday.

Peterson revealed Tuesday via his personal Instagram account that he underwent surgery to repair a fractured bone in his right foot, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Assuming the procedure went as anticipated, Peterson will have a chance to make it back from the 60-day injured list at some point in September, but he likely won't have enough time to build back up for a starting role. Before suffering the toe injury, Peterson made 15 starts for the Mets, posting a 2-6 record, 5.54 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.
