Carrasco allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five across 4.1 innings Wednesday against the Marlins. He did not factor into the decision.

Wednesday's start marked Carrasco's second of the season. He didn't build upon his workload much, as he threw only five more pitches and got one additional out as compared to his season debut. As for his actual performance, Carrasco held the Marlins scoreless through four innings but allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base to begin the fifth inning. He'll look to continue to build upon his length, though it's clear that Carrasco understandably remains rusty.

Mikolas (forearm) allowed an earned run on four hits and a walk over 4.2 innings in Double-A Springfield's win over Tulsa on Tuesday. He struck out three.

The right-hander bumped his pitch count up to 67 in what was his third straight encouraging rehab start. Assuming Mikolas' previously ailing forearm tolerates the increase in activity level well over the next several days, the veteran's next start could come with the big-league club this weekend.

DeSclafani (shoulder) is only expected to miss one start, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Giants are simply managing the workload of DeSclafani, who threw only 33.2 innings in the shortened 2020 campaign. Assuming he misses just one start, the righty should return from the IL to start Aug. 13 at home against the Rockies.

DeSclafani was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder fatigue, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

The righty labored Monday against an unimposing Arizona lineup in what was one of his worst starts this season. It's possible the division-leading Giants are just giving DeSclafani some extra rest before the last several weeks of the season. More details about his shoulder should become available in the next week or so.

Musgrove allowed a run on two hits, three walks and a pair of hit batters while striking out five in six innings in a no-decision versus Oakland on Wednesday.

Musgrove didn't have the best control Wednesday, but he was only punished on a second-inning solo shot by Jed Lowrie. The 28-year-old right-hander has strung together three straight quality starts, allowing just three runs in his last 19 innings. He has a 2.87 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 139:32 K:BB across 122.1 innings this season. Musgrove is projected to make his next start versus Miami next week.

Kershaw isn't currently throwing and won't be doing so until his forearm pain subsides, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Kershaw was scheduled for a simulated game last Sunday in hopes of rejoining the Dodgers' rotation Saturday, but he ended up just playing catch while dealing with some residual soreness. Manager Dave Roberts said the left-hander is now in "idle mode," per Juan Toribio of MLB.com, which puts his return timeline up in the air. Kershaw's status will remain uncertain until he resumes his throwing program.

Peralta allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings in a no-decision versus Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Unfortunately for Peralta, it took Milwaukee's offense until the seventh inning to take the lead for good, but he avoided taking a loss. The 25-year-old has collected a win and three no-decisions in his last four starts. Peralta continues to be a pleasant surprise this year with a 2.21 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 154:49 K:BB through 114 innings across 21 appearances (20 starts). The right-hander is projected to make his next start versus a depleted Cubs team next week.

Lorenzen allowed two hits and struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, earning the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Twins.

The righty has now pitched 4.2 scoreless innings and hasn't walked a batter since returning from the injured list July 30. Cincinnati's bullpen has struggled to hold leads all season, but Lorenzen appears to be a prime candidate to close games for the remainder of the season. Further, having appeared in just five games this season, Lorenzen likely has the freshest arm on the Reds' staff, increasing the likelihood of frequent usage going forward.

Flaherty (oblique) will throw about 75 pitches in a rehab outing Friday and will be activated for his next start, barring any setbacks, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

After missing two months with a left oblique strain, Flaherty appears right on the verge of rejoining the Cardinals' rotation. The righty threw five innings combined in his first two rehab starts, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight batters.

Castillo (6-10) allowed one run on six hits and a walk in six innings, striking out seven and earning the win in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Twins.

The only damage Minnesota mustered against Castillo was a first-inning home run by Jorge Polanco. With Wednesday's performance, the righty has a 5-2 record, 1.94 ERA and 10 quality starts in 12 outings since the beginning of June. On May 29, Castillo had taken his seventh consecutive loss and had an ERA of 7.22. Though it took a couple months for him to get there, the 28-year-old has blossomed into the dominant ace he was expected to be this season. Castillo will bring a 4.09 ERA and 1.39 WHIP into his next start Monday in Cleveland.
