Marquez allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout in four innings versus Washington on Friday. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander had his start pushed back a day after bad weather in Atlanta postponed Thursday's contest. Marquez didn't seem to benefit from the extra day, as he allowed a pair of runs in the first inning and then four more in the fourth, although Colorado's offense was able to spare him from a loss. He's been rather inconsistent since the start of August, and he now owns a 4.16 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 168:58 K:BB through 171 innings overall. Marquez lines up for an unpleasant home start versus the Dodgers next week.

Gore allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across four innings Friday for Double-A San Antonio.

This was Gore's second start since being promoted to San Antonio. He's now allowed only three earned runs across 10 innings at the level, though he has also walked eight batters. Though it's a positive that Gore is back on the mound at a reasonably appropriate level, he'll need to find the strike zone more regularly to succeed consistently and work deeper into games.

Cueto (elbow) extended his throwing distance to 90 feet Friday and is working toward being able to throw a live batting practice session within the next 10 days, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

It marked the second day in a row that the right-hander was able to extend his throwing distance. Given the obvious time restraints, it's very possible that Cueto doesn't return during the regular season, but if he is able to throw off a mound with some intensity soon, he should have a chance to contribute in some form during the playoffs.

Wood (illness) will be activated from the COVID-19 injured list to start Saturday's game against Atlanta, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Wood has been on the COVID list since testing positive for the virus at the end of August. The southpaw completed a simulated game Wednesday but is still expected to face some workload limitations Saturday given his lengthy absence. He'll resume his campaign with a 4.08 ERA and 1.23 WHIP.

Flaherty (shoulder) will throw another bullpen session Saturday, after which the Cardinals will determine the next step in his rehab, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Flaherty has been out since late August with a shoulder strain. He threw 30 pitches, all of them fastballs, in a bullpen session Thursday and appears to be ramping up quickly as he attempts to make it back before the end of the season, though he isn't expected to return as a starter.

Velasquez was selected from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against the Cardinals.

San Diego signed Velasquez to a minor-league deal Wednesday and it was later reported that he would be added to the major-league roster to start Friday. The right-hander will temporarily take Blake Snell's (groin) rotation spot, though it's unclear how many starts he'll ultimately make during the final weeks of the season. Velasquez posted a 5.95 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 81.2 innings with the Phillies before being released earlier this week.

Gonsolin will pitch multiple innings in relief of Clayton Kershaw on Sunday before returning to the starting rotation next week, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

With the Dodgers having an off day this upcoming Monday, the club can utilize Gonsolin on Sunday in a long relief role and have Julio Urias start on full rest Tuesday against the Rockies. Gonsolin tentatively lines up to make his next start Sept. 25 against Arizona.

DeGrom (elbow) will throw a side session within the next couple days, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old resumed mound work Tuesday with a 10-pitch session, and he'll continue ramping up his workload this weekend. There's just over two weeks left in the regular season, so deGrom is running out of time to make his return before the end of the campaign.

Lopez (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster, but Lopez remains eligible to return this season since he's already been on the shelf more than 60 days. The right-hander is scheduled to pitch to batters Saturday as he nears the final stages of his rehab work.

Greene has reached his innings limit and will not pitch again this season, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The decision ends any hope of Greene making his big-league debut this season, though that was always a long shot at best. The 22-year-old will end the year having produced a 3.30 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 21 starts at the two highest levels of the minors, striking out 31.7 percent of opposing batters while walking 8.9 percent. It was a very encouraging season for the 2017 second overall pick, who missed two straight seasons due to Tommy John and the coronavirus pandemic. He has set himself up well to potentially make his major-league debut in 2022.
