Gonsolin will draw a start Friday versus the Diamondbacks, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The Dodgers decided to give Clayton Kershaw an additional day of rest and Gonsolin will pitch for him Friday. After coming in as a reliever Sunday behind Kershaw, the 27-year-old will make his third start since returning from the 10-day injured list Sept. 9. In his previous two starts, he surrendered one run over eight innings while striking out nine.

Kershaw will get an extra day of rest and make his next start Saturday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The lefty was originally expected to start Friday, but the team has opted to start Tony Gonsolin and push him until Saturday versus the Diamondbacks. Kershaw has looked sharp since returning from the 60-day injured list Sept. 13, allowing two runs in 9.1 innings while registering 13 stikeouts.

Flaherty (shoulder) could be used in an opener role during one half of Friday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Flaherty doesn't have time to build up to a true starter's workload as he recovers from the shoulder strain that has kept him out for nearly a month, but he's nearly ready to return to pitch at least an inning or two. He threw a bullpen session Tuesday, which could wind up being his final session before he returns to game action.

Carrasco's thumb is fine after he jammed it during his start Saturday against the Phillies, and he's expected to be back on the mound for his next turn in the rotation, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Carrasco hurt his thumb when fouling off a pitch at the plate and wound up leaving after 82 pitches. The issue isn't a significant one, however, so he's expected to return to the mound Saturday against the Brewers.

DeGrom (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and still expects to return before the end of the season, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

DeGrom only resumed mound work one week ago, and there are less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, but he's still evidently expecting to return in some capacity. He'll throw another bullpen session later this week, which could theoretically give him time to return and make an appearance or two, though he'll likely be on a significantly reduced pitch count if that happens.

Syndergaard (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Syndergaard began a rehab assignment in late August but was shut down after he tested positive for COVID-19. He's resumed facing hitters during the last week and will now resume his rehab assignment in Syracuse. The right-hander is slated to take on a bullpen role once he rejoins the major-league club; he is expected to require at least two rehab appearances before he's reinstated from the injured list, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Toussaint will be available out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Jesse Chavez in Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Snitker didn't explicitly say that Toussaint lost his rotation spot, but that appears to be the implication, given that he hasn't pitched since being tagged for four runs on five hits and three walks in four innings in his last start Sept. 14 versus the Rockies. Toussaint won't necessarily work as a primary pitcher behind Chavez either, as Snitker termed Tuesday's contest as a bullpen day since Atlanta will have its full complement of relievers available. Atlanta will have a need for a fifth starter again Sunday in San Diego, but the early expectation is that the team will get by with another bullpen game rather than reinserting Toussaint into the rotation.

Mejia (0-2) was tagged with the loss Monday against Atlanta after allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks across four innings, striking out four.

Mejia was recalled from Triple-A Reno to make his third start of the season but was far from effective, allowing season-worst marks in both hits and runs while also tossing his shortest outing of the campaign. He's made just three starts this season and the results haven't been there; Mejia has allowed 12 earned runs and posted a 14:5 K:BB across 15 innings.

Ynoa didn't factor into the decision Monday against Arizona after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two across four innings.

Ynoa was far from being at his best Monday and was removed before the beginning of the fifth after a 75-pitch outing. The 23-year-old right-hander remains winless since he returned from the injured list Aug. 17, going 0-3 but with a 3.93 ERA across 36.2 innings in that span.

Peralta (9-5) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out nine over six innings as he took the loss against the Cardinals on Monday.

Peralta made quick work of the first two batters he faced with two strikeouts but then gave up a single to Tyler O'Neill and a two-run home run to Nolan Arenado. He would blank the Cardinals until the sixth inning when Yadier Molina singled home a run to regain the lead, and then struck out the final two batters in the inning before his day was done. Peralta has now put together back-to-back quality starts after struggling earlier in the month while coming back from a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old now has a 2.65 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 190:55 K:BB over 139 innings and is set to appear again at home this weekend.
