The Pirates recalled Contreras from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Cubs.

Pittsburgh moved third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) to the 10-day injured list to open up a spot on the 28-man active roster for Contreras, who will be making his MLB debut at PNC Park. Acquired in January in the deal that sent Jameson Taillon to the Yankees, Contreras dazzled between stops at Indianapolis and Double-A Altoona this season, submitting a 2.64 ERA while striking out 35 percent of the batters he faced. Since Contreras hasn't covered more than five innings in any minor-league outing since June 22, the Pirates may not allow him to work deep enough into Wednesday's start to qualify for the win, regardless of how well he performs.

Rogers gave up a run on three hits and no walks while striking out six over five innings Tuesday in the Marlins' 2-1 loss to the Mets in the second game of a doubleheader. He didn't factor into the decision.

The All-Star rookie has gone winless over his 12 starts dating back to June 10, but it's largely been a byproduct of poor run support rather than his own undoing. Rogers has delivered a 3.61 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over that 12-start stretch, and those strong ratios are actually a stark downturn from his season-long marks (2.64 and 1.15, respectively). The Marlins haven't indicated that Tuesday's outing was Rogers' last of 2021, so he'll presumably be on track to start the team's season finale Sunday versus the Phillies in Miami.

Corbin won't pitch again this season due to a blister on his finger, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Corbin finished the 2021 campaign with a pair of quality starts, but manager Dave Martinez revealed Wednesday that the left-hander has been dealing with a blister. As a result, he'll be held out for the remainder of the year rather than pitching during the final series of the season. The 32-year-old made 31 starts in 2021 and posted a career-worst 5.82 ERA with a 143:60 K:BB and 1.47 WHIP in 171.2 innings.

Stroman improved to 10-13 after tossing five innings and giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four Tuesday in the Mets' 5-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader with the Marlins.

Making his MLB-leading 33rd start of the season, Stroman cruised through the first three frames before enduring some turbulence in the top of the fourth. After following up a leadoff walk by allowing a home run to Lewin Diaz, Stroman retired three of the next four batters to limit the damage that inning. The New York bullpen then held down the fort for the final two frames of the seven-inning game, after Stroman departed with a 3-2 lead. Manager Luis Rojas hasn't indicated that Stroman will be shut down following Tuesday's outing, so the right-hander could make one last start in the Mets' season finale Sunday in Atlanta.

Williams tossed four innings in relief Tuesday in the Mets' 2-1 win over the Marlins in the second game of a doubleheader. He gave up a run on five hits and no walks while striking out six.

With starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) limited to one inning in his return from the 60-day injured list, Williams was needed to work in bulk relief behind him. Williams looked good during his time on the mound, with his six strikeouts marking his highest total since July 25. After tossing 70 pitches Tuesday, Williams likely won't be available out of the bullpen again until Sunday's season finale in Atlanta.

Syndergaard (elbow) struck out two over a perfect inning in his start Tuesday in the Mets' 2-1 win over the Marlins in the second game of a doubleheader.

Making his first appearance for the Mets since September 2019 following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery, Syndergaard was capped at 10 pitches after he didn't have sufficient time to build up for a traditional starting role during his minor-league rehab assignment. Syndergaard at least looked sharp in his brief stint on the mound, pumping in nine pitches for strikes and touching 96 miles per hour with his fastball. The Mets could have Syndergaard make another cameo in Sunday's season finale in Atlanta before he becomes an unrestricted free agent this winter.

Darvish (8-11) took the loss during Thursday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts in four innings.

Before the game, manager Jayce Tingler announced Tuesday's start would be Darvish's final of 2021 and it ended up being a dud. Despite a reasonable two runs surrendered, the 35-year-old dealt with heavy traffic on the bases in each of the first three innings and escaped bases-loaded jams in the second and third with minimal damage. Darvish concludes his first campaign in San Diego with an 8-11 record in 30 starts, 166.1 innings, a 4.22 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP and a 199:44 K:BB in a largely disappointing season.

Wainwright (17-7) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers.

Wainwright limited the Brewers effectively by inducing 11 groundouts. He generated only four swinging strikes on 102 pitches, but the only damage he surrendered came on a two-run home run by Luis Urias. Wainwright has maintained his success into September having now allowed 14 earned runs across 36.2 frames. However, in that same span, he has only 21 strikeouts as compared to 10 walks. Wainwright could draw a final start to close the regular season, and he'd carry a 3.05 ERA and 174:50 K:BB across 206.1 frames into that potential outing.

Woodruff allowed two earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out three across four innings Tuesday against St. Louis. He did not factor into the decision.

Woodruff was limited to only 63 pitches, a move made to preserve his innings with the Brewers having already clinched the division. Prior to his exit, Woodruff surrendered two runs in the fourth inning -- one of which came on a solo home run by Dylan Carlson. This will likely serve as Woodruff's last outing of the regular season, and if that is the case he will end the campaign with an excellent 2.56 ERA with a 211:43 K:BB across 179.1 frames.

Buehler (15-4) got the win in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over San Diego, allowing three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven scoreless innings.

After struggling in his previous start, Buehler shut down the Padres on Tuesday, needing just 90 pitches to navigate seven frames. The 27-year-old did seem to tire a bit as all five strikeouts came in the game's first four innings but that didn't stop the righty from preventing any Padre to pass second base. Buehler would line up to start the final game of the season on Sunday though Los Angeles has yet to announce a starter as it would depend on whether the NL West is still up for grabs.
