Gibson (10-9) was tagged with the loss Thursday against Atlanta after allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks while fanning eight across 4.1 innings. He also hit a batter.

Gibson plunked a batter for the second straight game and extended his struggles, as he has now allowed three or more earned runs in six straight outings. The strikeout numbers have been decent of late with an 11.0 K/9 in that span, but that's about the only positive for him since he owns a 7.31 ERA through six September starts.

Velasquez (3-9) took the loss during Thursday's 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

All four runs Velasquez surrendered came on solo homers in two back-to-back sets, a pair in the first inning and another two in the fourth. The 29-year-old has always shown strikeout upside -- he had seven Thursday -- but has now permitted multiple runs in each of his four appearances with San Diego that total only 12.2 innings.

Gonsolin got a no-decision in Thursday's 8-3 victory over San Diego, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Los Angeles scored early to give Gonsolin an initial lead and the righty did well enough through the game's first four innings, permitting just a solo home run. However, he served up a Fernando Tatis home run in the fifth that prompted his removal. The most encouraging takeaway is the 78 pitches Gonsolin tossed -- 10 more than any of his previous four starts since coming off the IL earlier this month. This was likely the 27-year-old's final regular-season appearance of 2021, and he concludes the campaign with a 4-1 record across 17 appearances along with a 3.32 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 65:34 K:BB.

Steele (4-4) allowed four hits and one walk while striking out seven across seven innings to earn the win Thursday against the Pirates.

Steele entered the game with a 5.89 ERA across eight starts with the big-league club. However, he turned in his longest outing and first quality start of the campaign while holding the Pirates without any extra-base hits. While his first stint in the major-league rotation wasn't all that successful, Steele could factor into the Cubs' future plans as either a starter or reliever. Steele will end the campaign with a 4.26 ERA and 59:27 K:BB across 57 innings.

Hill (7-8) went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks to earn the win over the Marlins on Thursday. He struck out six.

Hill finally notched his first win as a Met and did it in his final start of the 2021 season. Miami did the bulk of its damage on a Lewis Brinson two-run homer in the third inning, but Hill was able to hang around long enough to leave the game with a 6-3 lead. The 41-year-old left-hander logged a 3.86 ERA in 158.2 innings between the Mets and Rays this season, putting up a 150:55 K:BB.

Cabrera was removed from Thursday's game against the Mets with a blister on his right middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera was lifted in favor of a pinch hitter after only three innings and 56 pitches. His season is almost certainly over, and he pitched a combined 84.2 frames across multiple levels of the minor leagues and also in Miami. In his first taste of the major leagues, he managed a 5.79 ERA with a 1.67 WHIP across 23.1 innings.

Darvish (hip) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Darvish pitched Tuesday against the Dodgers and allowed two runs on five hits and four walks across four innings. Manager Jayce Tingler announced that outing was Darvish's final start of the season, though that is now official as Darvish hits the injured list. He concludes his season with a 4.22 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 199:44 K:BB across 166.1 innings.

Quintana was designated for assignment by the Giants on Thursday.

Quintana allowed five earned runs with a 12:6 K:BB over 9.2 innings since being claimed off waivers by the Giants in August, and he's now been removed from the 40-man roster with four games left in the regular season. It's been a disaster of a 2021 campaign for the veteran left-hander, who started the year with the Angels and posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 73:29 K:BB across 53.1 innings before being let go and joining the Giants.

Cueto (elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Cueto had been on the injured list since Sept. 1, but he'll rejoin the active roster ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Diamondbacks. He made a rehab appearance at Triple-A Sacramento last week and allowed one run in 1.2 innings. The right-hander is expected to be used as a reliever during the final few games of the regular season.

Contreras was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

The 21-year-old made his MLB debut Wednesday, tossing three scoreless innings against the Cubs while striking out four. He's one of the Pirates higher-ranked prospects, setting up a chance to be a part of the 2022 roster. Tanner Anderson had his contract selected Thursday and will take his spot on the roster.
