  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Fires six shutout frames

Gonsolin (1-0) earned the win Wednesday against Atlanta after allowing one hit with three walks and three strikeouts across six scoreless innings.

The right-hander gave up only one run over his first two starts of the season, but he finally pitched deep enough Wednesday to pick up his first victory. Gonsolin threw 83 pitches as he continues to build up to a full starter's workload and has a 0.69 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 13 frames this year. He lines up for a start early next week against the Diamondbacks on the road.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Dodgers' Tyler Anderson: Joining rotation Saturday

Manager Dave Roberts said Anderson will start Saturday's game against the Padres, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The 32-year-old has worked out of the bullpen in his first two appearances of 2022 but will enter the rotation Saturday in place of Andrew Heaney (shoulder), who was placed on the injured list. Anderson covered four innings and topped 55 pitches in both outings this season, so he figures to be limited to about 70-to-80 pitches in San Diego.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Dodgers' Tyler Anderson: Could replace Heaney in rotation

Anderson threw an extended bullpen session Wednesday and could be preparing to fill in for the injured Andrew Heaney (shoulder) in the rotation Saturday in San Diego, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Anderson completed the session midway through the Dodgers' series finale with Atlanta, but he wasn't considered as an option to replace Tony Gonsolin, who was rolling at the time and ultimately tossed six shutout innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. The Dodgers will likely make Anderson available in relief if needed for Friday's game in San Diego, but assuming he goes unused, the southpaw makes for the most logical choice to take Heaney's turn in the rotation. Anderson had been stretching out for starting duty in spring training, and he's covered four innings in both of his relief appearances since the start of the season. He should be capable of giving the Dodgers five innings in a start if he's able to work efficiently.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Giants' Alex Cobb: Dealing with Grade 1 strain

Cobb said Wednesday that he's dealing with a Grade 1 groin strain, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Cobb was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday after exiting his start against the Mets, but he downplayed the severity of the injury Wednesday and said he's hopeful he'll be able to return after a minimal stay on the IL. The Giants haven't yet indicated who will take Cobb's place in the rotation, but the right-hander will be eligible to return as early as April 30.

  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Cubs' Wade Miley: Bullpen scheduled for Friday

Miley (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Miley threw his second bullpen session Tuesday, and it apparently went well since he'll throw off a mound once again late in the week. He tossed around 25-to-30 pitches during his first bullpen session, so he'll require time to build up before he's in the mix to return to major-league games.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Dodgers' Andrew Heaney: Shut down with shoulder issue

The Dodgers placed Heaney on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left shoulder discomfort.

The Dodgers haven't provided any information regarding the extent of Heaney's injury, but anything shoulder-related is obviously an unwelcome sight for a pitcher. The injury comes after Heaney had looked dominant over his first two starts with the Dodgers, turning in a 0.68 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB across 10.1 scoreless innings. Southpaw Tyler Anderson could be the Dodgers' top choice to enter the rotation when the team next requires a fifth starter to replace Heaney.

  • Quinn Priester SP | MIL

Pirates' Quinn Priester: Still not close to game action

Priester (oblique) did some long tossing from 105 feet Wednesday but has yet to be cleared for mound work, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Since Priester will likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions and multiple live batting practice sessions before being ready to begin a rehab assignment, he's likely two weeks or more away from game action. Once he's fully ramped up, the 21-year-old is expected to settle at Double-A Altoona.

  • Brennan Malone RP | PIT

Pirates' Brennan Malone: Building up at extended spring camp

Malone has yet to make his 2022 debut while he continues to build up at the Pirates' extended spring training facility in Bradenton, Fla. after an undisclosed illness set him back in his throwing program earlier in camp, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Once the Pirates are satisfied with where Malone is at his throwing program, he'll likely be assigned to Low-A Bradenton for his season debut. Between stops in Bradenton and the rookie-level Florida Complex League last season, Malone covered only 14 innings while he missed time with a blister and a lat injury.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mets' Taijuan Walker: Looks good in rehab start

Walker (shoulder) struck out seven over three scoreless innings spanning approximately 45 pitches in his start Wednesday at the Mets' extending spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic reports. He allowed one hit and one walk.

According to Ghiroli, Walker recorded more than nine outs in the start, as he faced an extra hitter in the first and third innings to get some more work in. Though Walker's results were excellent, the Mets will likely see how he feels coming out of the start a day later before deciding whether to activate him from the 10-day injured list or send him to a minor-league affiliate for another rehab start. If the Mets go the former route, Walker could slot back into the big-league rotation for next week's series in St. Louis.

  • Pirates' Roansy Contreras: Dazzles in long relief

Contreras worked three innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Brewers, giving up a solo home run and no other baserunners while striking out five.

The Pirates probably still view Contreras as a starter over the long haul, but he's began the season in a multi-inning role out of the bullpen as the organization looks to manage his workload. The 22-year-old righty has shown plenty of potential in that capacity, as he's now given up just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out 10 over six innings between his last two appearances. Since the Pirates aren't designating Contreras as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen, predicting when he might be used is difficult, but he should at least make for a strong ratio stabilizer for fantasy managers in a given week if their other pitching options leave something to be desired.
