Houser (elbow) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The 29-year-old joined the Brewers in Los Angeles as a member of the taxi squad Monday, and he'll re-enter the starting rotation Wednesday after being sidelined nearly eight weeks by a right flexor strain. Houser was originally scheduled to throw 60-to-75 pitches in a minor-league rehab start Sunday before the change of plan, and he's likely to have a similar workload his first outing back with Milwaukee.

Wainwright (9-9) took the loss against the Cubs in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out three in six innings.

Wainwright allowed only seven baserunners in his previous two starts combined, spanning 16 innings, but allowed nine baserunners over six frames Tuesday. Both runs scored in the third inning when Nico Hoerner drove in a run with a groundout and Seiya Suzuki singled in a run. It marked the fifth time in his last six starts that he allowed two or fewer runs and pitched at least six innings. He's posted a 2.25 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 35:9 K:BB in 40 innings in that span.

Cavalli is trending toward making his MLB debut this season, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

One of the top pitching prospects in the game, Cavalli is currently listed as Triple-A Rochester's starting pitcher Saturday in Indianapolis, but Blanco reports the sense is that Cavalli is getting close to making his MLB debut. The 6-foot-4 righty got off to a shaky start to the season, but he has a 2.10 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 77:25 K:BB in 68.2 innings over his last 13 starts.

Darvish was placed on the paternity list by the Padres on Tuesday.

The veteran right-hander, who was previously scheduled to start Wednesday against the Guardians, will instead step away from the team for a few days in order to be with his family. According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Blake Snell will have his spot in the rotation pushed up to the series finale versus Cleveland. Darvish could rejoin the Padres as early as Friday's series opener in Kansas City.

Buehler (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery and flexor tendon repair surgery Tuesday.

Buehler had Tommy John surgery the year he was drafted (2015), so this is his second go-round with the procedure. Given the timing of the surgery and the fact that he has a lot riding on his recovery going smoothly, it's possible he won't pitch in games until the 2024 season.

DeGrom will start Thursday against the Rockies, Deesha Thosar of Fox Sports reports.

He was originally going to pitch Tuesday against the Yankees, but the Mets pushed him back. It's good to know it was not due to anything physically serious enough for him miss a start this week. This allows deGrom to line up to face the Dodgers next week.

The Reds placed Ashcraft on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right biceps soreness.

Ashcraft had been confirmed to start Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, so the biceps soreness may have cropped up in his most recent bullpen session following his last outing Friday in Pittsburgh. Right-hander T.J. Zeuch was one of three players called up from Triple-A Louisville, and he could enter the rotation Wednesday if he isn't needed out of the bullpen Tuesday. Ashcraft had gotten off to a nice start to the second half, having posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 32:11 K:BB across 38.1 innings coming out of the All-Star break. Per Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Ashcraft is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, but since the rookie right-hander isn't dealing with any elbow pain, the Reds are hopeful he'll pitch again in 2022, according to manager David Bell.

Greene (shoulder) is expected to throw another bullpen session Wednesday before facing hitters in live batting practice Saturday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Greene checked out fine after a 25-pitch side session Sunday, his first mound work since he landed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 5. Manager David Bell has said that Greene will require between one and three rehab starts in the minors prior to being activated from the IL, so he's most likely trending toward a mid-to-late September return. The shoulder injury came at an inconvenient time for Greene, who had been magnificent over his most recent four starts with the Reds (2.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 29:8 K:BB in 23.1 innings).

Cubs manager David Ross said Farrell is expected to receive a call-up from Triple-A Iowa to start Wednesday's game against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ross said he wanted to wait until Tuesday's doubleheader with St. Louis concludes before locking Farrell in for Wednesday's start, but the Cubs look to be leaning toward bringing up the 31-year-old lefty journeyman to fill the opening in the rotation rather than calling up one of their top two pitching prospects -- Caleb Kilian or Hayden Wesneski -- from Triple-A. Farrell, who made 20 appearances in the majors with the Twins in 2021, has pitched exclusively at Iowa this season, compiling a 5.03 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 59 innings.

The Cardinals recalled Liberatore from Triple-A Memphis and will designate him as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs.

The rookie southpaw will technically be available for both ends of the twin bill, but the Cardinals will presumably save him for the second game, when Jake Woodford is scheduled to start. Since Woodford covered 1.1 innings in relief just two days ago, he'll presumably be on a limited pitch count in the spot start, potentially setting the stage for Liberatore to piggyback him as a multi-inning reliever. In seven appearances (six starts) for the big club this season, Liberatore has provided a 5.33 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB over 27 innings.
