Oviedo (3-3) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings in a 13-3 victory over Arizona. He struck out seven.

Oviedo has allowed just one run in each of his past two starts (11 innings) after surrendering 17 across his previous three outings. Friday's performance was the right-hander's fourth quality start of the year, and his seven strikeouts were his most since posting a season-high 10 against the Cardinals on April 14. While Oviedo has been able to limit damage recently, he is still struggling with his control and has issued multiple free passes in all but two of his nine starts this season.

Gallen (6-2) took the loss Friday, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out two.

Gallen failed to get through four innings for the first time this year and struck out a season-low two batters while posting seasons highs in walks and runs allowed. Friday's performance was easily the right-hander's worst start of the campaign, but his numbers (2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 72:12 K:BB) through 61 innings still look elite. Arizona's ace will look to get back on track during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for the finale of a three-game set in Philadelphia.

Irvin (1-2) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs (four earned) on five hits and four walks over 2.2 innings as the Nationals were downed 8-6 by the Tigers. He struck out one.

It was a brutal outing for the rookie right-hander, who served up two homers to a light-hitting Detroit lineup that wound up going yard four times in total on the night. Irvin now carries a 5.50 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB through 18 innings over his first four big-league starts, but the Nats don't have any clearly better rotation options in the minors. If he gets another turn, it will likely come at home next week against the Padres.

DeSclafani did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against Miami. He struck out six.

DeSclafani continues his hot start, as he's now tied for ninth in the league with a 0.99 WHIP. The former Red also sports a 5.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which would be a career-high if he stays at that pace throughout the season. The right-hander is tentatively slated to face the Twins on the road in his next appearance.

Alcantara (1-5) took the loss Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against the Giants. He struck out five.

Alcantara has now coughed up 10 runs over his last two starts, an unfortunate development after he gave up just two runs over 8.1 innings May 7 against the Cubs. The right-hander has given up multiple runs in eight of his nine starts this year and has an unimpressive 5.05 ERA. The 27-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Rockies on the road in his next start.

Snell (1-6) took the loss Friday, allowing six runs on five hits and two walks over four innings against the Red Sox. He struck out five.

Snell continues to struggle, as he's currently on pace to have the worst season of his career with a 1.56 WHIP and 13.4 percent walk rate. This was also the former Ray's worst appearance of the season, ballooning his ERA from 4.61 to 5.40. The southpaw is tentatively slated to face the Nationals on the road in his next start.

Matz (0-5) allowed an unearned run on six hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Dodgers.

Matz needed 103 pitches (66 strikes) to get 14 outs in an inefficient outing. He's yet to complete six innings in any of his nine starts this season, though this was the second time in his last three games that he's been able to limit the damage to one run. The Cardinals still aren't giving him much run support even when he has a good showing. Matz owns a 5.05 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB across 46.1 innings this season. With Matthew Liberatore up from Triple-A Memphis, it appears the Cardinals will work with a six-man rotation for a while. Matz should not be considered safe to remain a starter if/when the team returns to a five-man rotation. He's tentatively projected for a road start in Cincinnati next week.

Gonsolin (2-1) allowed a hit and three walks while striking out three over five shutout innings to earn the win Friday over the Cardinals.

Gonsolin has pitched five scoreless innings in each of his last two starts, and he hasn't given up an earned run since May 1. He was able to keep the Cardinals' offense quiet Friday, just one day after they launched seven homers against the Dodgers' pitching staff. Gonsolin is down to a 1.13 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB through 24 innings over five starts this season. His 94 pitches were a season high, and he should be considered clear for a full workload going forward. His next start is projected to be a tough road outing in Atlanta next week.

Kauffmann (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against Texas.

Kauffmann looked solid through three scoreless frames before the Rangers finally broke through in the fourth inning. He coughed up a two-run shot to Adolis Garcia and was charged with three more runs in the fifth. Kauffmann had a 7.78 ERA with Triple-A Albuquerque prior to his promotion for Friday's start. It's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.

Carrasco yielded five runs on five hits and two walks over five innings during Friday's win over Cleveland. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.

Carrasco stumbled out of the gate, coughing up a three-run shot to Josh Naylor in the first inning followed by another run in the second. It was Carrasco's first start since April 15 after missing the last month with an elbow injury. He's allowed at least five runs in three of his four starts this season, resulting in an unsightly 8.68 ERA. Carrasco is currently lined up to face the Cubs in Chicago next week.
