Smith-Shawver won't start Wednesday against Philadelphia as scheduled because the game has been postponed due to rain, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

The game will be made up Sept. 11 while Smith-Shawver's next start will be pushed back to Friday. The 20-year-old righty has allowed three earned runs through 13.1 innings to begin his MLB career.

Megill didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-8 loss to the Astros, coughing up five runs (four earned) on four hits and four walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander found the plate with only 32 of his 63 pitches and uncorked two wild pitches, but he was far from alone in having control issues as the two pitching staffs combined for 16 walks and two hit-by-pitches on the afternoon. It was the fourth time in his last six starts Megill failed to work past the fourth inning, and the rough stretch has sent his ERA soaring to 5.17. He'll try to get back on track in his next outing, likely to come at home early next week against the Brewers.

Hendricks (3-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits across 6.1 innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Pirates. He had three walks and two strikeouts.

Hendricks cruised to his third straight win, and the righty allowed two earned runs or fewer in all three starts. The veteran isn't missing a ton of bats, with only 18 strikeouts across 34.2 innings this season, but that's never really been his game. Hendricks will carry a strong 2.60 ERA into his next outing, which will likely come in the middle of next week against the Phillies after the Cubs get back from their weekend trip to London.

Grove will operate as the bulk reliever Wednesday versus the Angels, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports.

Grove is set to follow Brusdar Graterol, who is serving as the Dodgers' opener Wednesday night at Angel Stadium. It's not a favorable pitching setup for fantasy purposes, though Grove will likely try to cover a good amount of innings. He holds an 8.10 ERA through seven major-league appearances (six starts) this year.

Los Angeles recalled Grove from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Grove was called up ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Angels. The right-hander has struggled in his previous action with the Dodgers this season, pitching to an 8.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 30 innings. Shelby Miller (neck) was placed on the 15-day injured list in the corresponding transaction.

Sheehan is slated to start Friday's game against the Astros in Los Angeles, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

After Sheehan tossed six no-hit innings in his MLB debut last Friday against the Giants, manager Dave Roberts confirmed the rookie would receive at least one more turn through the Dodgers rotation. The skipper didn't initially clarify whether Sheehan would take the hill for Wednesday's road game in the Angels or at some point during the series with Houston, but the young right-hander is now officially locked in to make his second career start versus the reigning World Series champions. The length of Sheehan's stay with the big club will likely hinge on how he performs versus Houston and any additional starts that may follow, as well as the availability of Julio Urias (hamstring), who could be ready to rejoin the rotation at some point late next week.

Seabold has been scratched from his expected start Wednesday against the Reds due to an apparent arm injury, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Heading into the week, Seabold was lined up to take the hill for Friday's series opener with the Angels, but the Rockies ended up moving him up to Wednesday when it became clear that Kyle Freeland would need two extra days to recover from a viral illness. With Seabold having now picked up the arm injury at some point during his most recent start last week or during a recent bullpen session, the Rockies will now turn to reliever Jake Bird to serve as their opening pitcher Wednesday in what amounts to a bullpen day. The Rockies haven't shed light on the severity of Seabold's injury, making it unclear if he'll be available at any point during this weekend's series with the Angels or if his turn in the rotation will be skipped over entirely.

Freeland, who had been expected to pitch Wednesday in Cincinnati, is now slated to take the hill Friday against the Angels after he battled a virus earlier in the week, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Since the Rockies have confirmed that Freeland will take the hill Friday, the illness is seemingly already behind him, but it likely affected his preparation enough early in the week that manager Bud Black opted to push the southpaw back a couple of days in the schedule. Jake Bird will now get the start Wednesday, though he's unlikely to work more than 1-to-3 innings before turning the game over to the bullpen.

The Rockies optioned Davis to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.

After a month-long stay on the injured list due to elbow inflammation before he was optioned to the minors, Davis rejoined the Colorado rotation Tuesday. The rookie right-hander was unable to make a case for a more permanent stint with the big club, however, as he was blasted for five earned runs on five hits and four walks across four innings en route to taking a loss against the Reds. Davis will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to right-hander Karl Kauffmann, who is expected to serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's series finale in Cincinnati.

Though reliever Jake Bird is getting the nod as the Rockies' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati, Kauffman could be tasked with covering the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen in the series finale with the Reds. Since usual starters Kyle Freeland (illness) and Connor Seabold (arm) weren't available to take the hill Wednesday like the Rockies hoped, Kauffman likely represents the freshest arm the team will have available who's capable of covering multiple frames. Kauffmann previously made three starts with the Rockies earlier this season but posted an ugly 11.37 ERA and 2.29 WHIP in 12.2 innings.
