Abbott (8-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out five.

Abbott's held opponents to just two runs in both of his last two starts (10.2 innings), striking out 14 in that span without issuing a walk. The rookie southpaw now sports a 2.99 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and 88:27 K:BB across 14 starts (81.1 innings) this season. Abbott will look for a third straight win in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the Angels.

Gore left Wednesday's start against the Red Sox due to a cut nail on his left index finger that developed into a blister, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Gore was taken out of the game after throwing a pitch way out of the zone, but he downplayed the injury after the game. The 24-year-old southpaw surrendered just one hit through 6.1 scoreless frames Wednesday and said that he should be able to make his next start -- tentatively lined up for next Wednesday against the Yankees.

Gore was removed from his start Wednesday against Boston after suffering an apparent injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

After Gore badly missed the zone on a pitch during the seventh inning, a trainer came out to look at him and ended up taking him out of the game. It's not immediately clear what Gore is dealing with, but the Nationals should provide more information soon. For now, he should be considered day-to-day.

Brown was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Iowa on Aug. 2

Brown appeared to find his groove at Triple-A with three runs allowed over 15 frames in his last three starts prior to landing on the injured list. The 23-year-old is one of the Cubs' top pitching prospects and could make his major-league debut by the end of the season if he's able to get healthy in time.

Bido is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Twins in Minnesota, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis this past weekend, Bido had been serving in a relief role for the Pirates, making one- and three-inning appearances Sunday versus the Reds and Monday versus the Mets, respectively. Prior to his brief demotion to the minors, Bido had been serving as a part-time starter for the Pirates, so he should be stretched out enough to provide Pittsburgh with a decent amount of length as he steps back into the rotation this weekend. Through 41 innings in the big leagues this season, Bido owns a 5.05 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB.

Stroman was diagnosed Wednesday with a right rib cage cartilage fracture and is without a timetable to return from the 15-day injured list, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Stroman initially appeared on track to come off the IL when first eligible to start Wednesday's series finale with the White Sox, but that plan was scrapped after he reported renewed discomfort in the rib cage area Tuesday. Follow-up tests have now confirmed the nature of Stroman's setback, and the two-time All-Star now looks as though he could be out through the end of August, if not longer. While Stroman remains on the mend, Drew Smyly could make his return to the rotation when the Cubs require a fifth starter again during next week's series in Detroit.

The Reds announced that Greene (hip) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Blue Jays in Cincinnati.

As anticipated, Greene will get the green light to make his first appearance for Cincinnati since June 17 after he completed a successful four-start rehab assignment in the minors. In his latest outing Tuesday for Triple-A Louisville, Greene built up to 83 pitches and 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out nine. Given the healthy workload he handled Tuesday, the 24-year-old is unlikely to face any significant restrictions as he steps back into the Cincinnati rotation this weekend.

Dunn (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Dunn is expected to return to the Reds as a reliever, but he's been out all season with a right rotator cuff injury and will need to prove his health and effectiveness with several minor-league rehab appearances. The 27-year-old struggled to a 6.10 ERA across 31 innings (seven starts) for Cincinnati in 2022.

Hendricks did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings against the White Sox. He struck out four.

Hendricks allowed six baserunners and three runs through the first two innings but settled in, retiring 14 of the final 17 batters he faced to notch his ninth quality start of the year. After the soft-tossing hurler was roughed up by Atlanta on Aug. 4, Hendricks has produced more respectable results in his last two outings, allowing five earned runs with a 10:4 K:BB across 11 innings during that stretch. He is currently slated to face the Royals at Wrigley Field over the weekend.

The Mets optioned Butto to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Butto will presumably transition back into a starting role as heads back to Syracuse after he was called up from Triple-A on Tuesday to provide a fresh arm out of the New York bullpen. He came on in relief of David Peterson and proceeded to pitch 2.2 innings, taking the loss Tuesday against the Pirates after giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five. The Mets selected right-hander Dennis Santana from Triple-A Syracuse to fill Butto's spot in the bullpen and on the 26-man active roster.
