Matz (back) will throw a full-intensity bullpen Monday and could get sent on a minor-league rehab assignment if the bullpen session goes well, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Monday's bullpen session will be Matz's third since he hit the IL with a back injury. The southpaw has missed a full month of action and would likely need a couple of rehab starts before returning to the Cardinals' active roster. In the meantime, Andre Pallante is set to fill Matz's spot in the rotation.

The Brewers optioned Myers to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

Myers was knocked around during his start against the White Sox on Friday, allowing five earned runs in just 4.1 frames, and he will now head back to Nashville in order to right the ship. The 25-year-old owns a 5.40 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 26.2 innings across seven big-league appearances this season, though he still may be relied upon later in the year if the Brewers run into additional problems with their pitching depth. Janson Junk was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.

Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.

The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return.

The Padres recalled Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's contest, causing Musgrove's next start to be pushed back. It's unclear whether the 31-year-old is dealing with an injury or the Padres simply want to give him some extra rest, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future.

Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A in May after posting a 5.82 ERA and 1.75 WHIP across 21.2 innings through his first five starts. His numbers get even worse in the minors (7.45 ERA, 1.88 WHIP), but he will be called upon for another start with the Padres nonetheless.

Falter came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays, allowing two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw left the game with the Pirates nursing a 1-0 lead, but the game didn't end up getting decided until the 14th. Falter tossed 56 of 81 pitches for strikes in his fourth straight quality start and sixth of the season. The former Phillie has become a surprisingly reliable rotation option in 2024. He'll take a 3.22 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB through 64.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Dodgers.

Severino (3-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out four and earning a win over Arizona.

Severino got off to a rough start, coughing up three runs in the first inning. He gave up one more over the next four frames before Eugenio Suarez knocked him out of the game with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Severino still earned his first win since April 17 in the chaotic 10-9 contest. He ends May with a subpar 4.91 ERA and 23:16 K:BB through 29 frames. Severino will carry a 3.52 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be in Washington.

Montgomery (3-3) yielded eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks over four innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Mets.

Montgomery had a 3-0 lead before taking the mound Friday but quickly squandered it by coughing up four runs in the bottom of the first inning. He allowed another run in the second and three more in the fourth. After producing a pair of quality starts in his first two outings with Arizona, Montgomery has registered a rough 6.61 ERA over his last six starts. He now owns a 5.48 ERA with a lackluster 28:15 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Montgomery's next start is lined up to be at home against the Giants.

Hicks (4-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 5.1 innings, taking the loss versus the Yankees on Friday.

Aaron Judge did most of the damage against Hicks, taking him deep for a three-run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the sixth. The five runs allowed were the most Hicks has given up in a start this season, though it was a positive to see him issue no walks for the fourth time in 12 outings. Homers are becoming a problem for the right-hander -- he's allowed five of them over his last four starts after giving up just one across his first eight outings. For the season, Hicks is at a strong 2.70 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and 52:19 K:BB over 63.1 innings. He's projected to make his next start on the road in Arizona.
