Perez (7-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Tigers after surrendering three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings.

After giving up a solo home run to Robbie Grossman in the first, Perez never fully recovered, leaving with the bases loaded while facing a 2-0 deficit. The outing was his shortest of the season. The southpaw has now made nine starts of four innings or fewer, which is the most in the American League while tying for the most in the majors. Meanwhile, across his last five starts, Perez has surrendered eight home runs, raising his ERA to 4.77 and WHIP to 1.52. The 30-year-old is projected to take the mound again next week against Tampa Bay.

Skubal (7-10) earned the win Thursday after blanking the Red Sox across five innings. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out four.

Despite some sloppy defensive plays for Skubal, he managed to hold things together while blanking an opponent for just the third time this season. The 24-year-old seemed to put his long-ball heavy woes behind him Thursday after surrendering eight homers across his four previous starts. Skubal will carry an improved 4.32 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into his next projected matchup Wednesday at Baltimore.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Thursday that Dunn (shoulder) has fallen behind Justus Sheffield (forearm) in their respective rehab programs, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

The two starting pitchers were placed on the 10-day injured list within a couple weeks of one another; Dunn landed on the shelf on June 18 with a right shoulder strain, while Sheffield was shut down July 7 with a left forearm strain. Coming out of the All-Star break, Dunn appeared to be closer of the two to returning, but his timeline was pushed back after he failed to complete a bullpen session during the Mariners' series with the Rays earlier this week. Even if Dunn is able to get back on the mound within the next few days, he'll still need to progress to facing hitters, and then complete a one- or two-start rehab assignment in the minors before the Mariners entertain bringing him back from the IL. Dunn doesn't look like he'll be ready to go until late August, in a best-case scenario.

Severino (groin/elbow) is scheduled to make the second start of his minor-league rehab assignment at High-A Hudson Valley on Sunday, Justin Shackil of WFAN Sports Radio New York reports.

Severino will return to the mound on the typical four days' rest after he restarted his rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Somerset. He covered 2.1 innings and tossed 43 pitches (28 strikes) in the outing, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four. After Sunday's rehab start, Severino is expected to require one or two more outings in the minors before he gets clearance to make his 2021 debut with the big club, likely in late August or early September.

Odorizzi (4-6) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Dodgers after allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits and two walks while fanning three across three innings.

The main reason why Odorizzi lasted just three innings Wednesday was his issue with the long ball, as he gave up a season-worst four homers before departing the contest. Odorizzi allowed three homers in the season opener and seemed to since have that issue under control, but the problems have resurfaced of late and he has given up eight homers over his last four starts. He owns an 8.82 ERA and 1.84 WHIP across 16.1 innings during that four-game sample size.

Marsh has not pitched since June 15 due to an undisclosed injury.

This has been a particularly tough minor-league injury designation to track down. He logged a 4.97 ERA in six starts at Double-A prior to suffering the injury, but his 39.6 percent strikeout rate and .217 batting average against were strong marks. It was his 12.3 percent walk rate that was the big problem for the 23-year-old righty.

Bundy is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After working as a reliever for most of the past month, Bundy picked up a start last week versus the Athletics, working 4.1 innings while surrendering three runs on two hits and four walks. While that outing likely won't be enough to keep Bundy in the rotation permanently, the recent trade of Andrew Heaney to the Yankees along with Alex Cobb's (wrist) move to the injured list will allow the 28-year-old to pick up another start. Whether working out of the rotation or bullpen this season, Bundy hasn't been remotely effective, compiling a 6.66 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 70:27 K:BB In 74.1 innings.

Cortes is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Mariners, YES Network reports.

The lefty initially appeared on track to make his fourth start of the season Tuesday against the Orioles after Gerrit Cole (illness) was moved to the COVID-19 injured list, but Cortes was bypassed for the nod in favor of prospect Luis Gil, who was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Until Cole clears all COVID-19-related health and safety protocols, the Yankees should have room in the rotation for both Cortes and Gil. Cortes will get the ball for the start of the Yankees' four-game series with Seattle after he limited the Rays to one run on three hits while striking out five in five frames back on July 28.

Matz (9-6) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing six hits and a walk over six scoreless innings in an 8-6 victory over Cleveland. He struck out eight.

The strikeout total was his highest since June 12 as Matz put together his fifth quality start of the season, but only his second since April. The southpaw will carry a 4.30 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 99:26 K:BB through 96.1 innings into his next outing.

Giolito (8-8) was handed the loss by Kansas City on Wednesday as a result of allowing six runs on eight hits over four innings. He struck out two.

The Royals entered the game near the bottom of the league in both runs scored and long balls, but they got to Giolito early and often Wednesday. The right-hander surrendered a trio of homers and tossed 81 pitches before he was lifted after the fourth inning. The subpar outing was perhaps most surprising because Giolito came into the contest pitching very well, holding opponents to just five runs while posting a 27:8 K:BB over his previous four starts covering 26.1 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is projected to take place at Minnesota early next week.
