Valdez yielded three hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.

Valdez was terrific Sunday, allowing just one Mariner to reach scoring position while giving up just three singles and a walk. He was in line for his ninth win of the year before Houston's bullpen allowed six runs over four frames in the extra-innings loss. It was his first scoreless outing since July 24 and he lowered his season ERA to 2.94 through 98 innings. Valdez is projected to face the Rangers on the road next weekend.

Bassitt has noticed a dramatic reduction of the swelling on his face and is expected to undergo surgery Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Before surgery is scheduled, Bassitt will undergo a final consultation Monday with a surgeon and will receive a CT scan to confirm his original diagnosis of a displaced tripod fracture of his right cheekbone and a fractured jawbone. A formal timeline for Bassitt's return won't emerge until after the procedure is performed, but he's expected to need around six weeks to make a full recovery, which will effectively close the door on him returning during the regular season. Paul Blackburn was tapped to replace Bassitt in the rotation.

Matz allowed one run on five hits and struck out one in six innings versus Detroit on Sunday. He walked none and took a no-decision.

The only run on Matz's ledger was Miguel Cabrera's 500th career home run, a solo shot in the sixth inning. Other than that historic blast, Matz was dominant, although Toronto's offense and bullpen were both unable to secure a more favorable result for him and the team. The southpaw lowered his ERA to 3.94 with a 1.36 WHIP and 109:32 K:BB across 112 innings. He lines up for a rematch in Detroit during next weekend's three-game series.

Means (5-6) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings to take the loss against Atlanta on Sunday.

Means had allowed 13 runs (10 earned) in 8.1 innings across his last two starts, and he fared slightly better Sunday. However, he was still charged with his third consecutive loss in the low-scoring contest. In seven starts since the All-Star break, the southpaw has recorded a 5.84 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 37 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Rays on Saturday.

Urquidy (shoulder) is scheduled to make a rehab start Tuesday at Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Out since late June with right shoulder soreness, Urquidy received the green light to move on to the final phase of his recovery program Thursday, when he tossed three innings while making his first rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. He's expected to cover around five innings Tuesday for Sugar Land, and if all goes well, Urquidy will make one final start at Triple-A on Aug. 29 before rejoining the Astros during the first week of September. Once Urquidy is back with the big club, the Astros could expand their rotation to six men to afford additional rest between starts for rookie Luis Garcia.

Civale (finger) will start for Double-A Akron on Sunday.

Civale has worked through a throwing program for the last two weeks and pitched a sim game with High-A Lake County last week. The right-hander will likely need multiple starts as he works his way back from a finger sprain.

Cantillo (abdomen) made his first rehab appearance in the Arizona Complex League on Friday, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two over two scoreless innings.

Cantillo has been sidelined all year with the abdominal injury, but he's finally on the way back. The 21-year-old southpaw was part of Cleveland's return in last August's Mike Clevinger trade. It's unclear how many more rehab appearances Cantillo will need before he's able to link up with Double-A Akron.

The Blue Jays reinstated Manoah (personal) from the bereavement list Sunday.

Manoah was away from the Blue Jays for four days while tending to the personal matter, but because his last start came Tuesday and the team has had an off day since then, he didn't miss a turn through the rotation. The rookie right-hander is on track to start Monday's series opener versus the White Sox, and he'll line up for his second turn of the week Aug. 28 in Detroit.

White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Rodon (shoulder) will start Thursday "if he does a couple more things," Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

La Russa did not elaborate on what Rodon needs to do between now and Thursday for reinstatement from the injured list. If the manager decides Rodon is not ready, then Dallas Keuchel will start against the Blue Jays. Rodon has thrown 109.2 innings in 2021 after throwing just 42.1 the previous two seasons.

Eovaldi and the Red Sox won't face the Rangers on Sunday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

With Hurricane Henri expected to make landfall in Long Island or Southern New England on Sunday, the Red Sox opted to postpone the contest out of an abundance of caution. The two teams are scheduled to make up the game Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET, weather permitting. Eovaldi, who was scheduled to start Sunday, will presumably be pushed back one day in the pitching schedule to take the hill for Boston in the series finale.
