Cole (10-6) allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 7.1 innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Friday.

Cole notched his seventh game of double-digit strikeouts this year. His punchout of Cal Stevenson in the seventh inning secured Cole's fifth career 200-strikeout season. He's the first in the majors to reach that milestone in 2022. The right-hander has gone at least six innings in 14 straight starts, pitching to a 3.08 ERA in that span. For the season, he owns a 3.31 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 200:39 K:BB through 157.2 innings across 26 starts. He's projected for a road start versus the Angels next week.

Wacha (9-1) yielded four runs on five hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rays.

Wacha served up a homer to Yandy Diaz on the first pitch of the game before Ji-Man Choi took him deep in the second inning. Before Friday's lackluster outing, the veteran righty had tossed 12.2 scoreless frames since returning from the injured list earlier this month. However, he still picked up his ninth win of the year, and he's posted a 2.61 ERA through eight starts since his last loss May 31. Wacha will carry a 2.53 ERA into his projected start in Minnesota next week.

Whitlock struck out one in a perfect inning and earned a save over Tampa Bay on Friday.

Whitlock needed just eight pitches to roll through the Rays. It was his sixth save of the year and third in his last four appearances. The 26-year-old now owns a 2.90 ERA with a 72:13 K:BB through 71.1 innings this season. Whitlock should continue seeing a large portion of Boston's save opportunities while Tanner Houck (back) is out.

Gray (oblique) is throwing Friday and is scheduled for a bullpen session Sept. 1, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

The bullpen session will be the right-hander's first time on the mound since suffering an oblique strain during his last start Aug. 1. Gray is expected to rejoin the Rangers before the end of the campaign, though he's likely to have a modified workload given the limited build-up time.

Keuchel will be called up to start Saturday against the Tigers.

Keuchel has already been released by both the White Sox and the Diamondbacks this season, and it's not hard to see why. In 12 starts, he's struggled to an 8.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP while averaging 87.9 mph with his fastball. He'll make at least a spot start or two in place of the injured Cole Ragans (calf), but it's hard to see the veteran having much success.

Ragans was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left calf Friday.

Ragans made his MLB debut in early August and recorded a 4.42 ERA in his first four starts, though his 9:10 K:BB suggests things could have gone much worse. He'll miss at least two turns in the rotation, with Dallas Keuchel expected to take his place.

Glasnow (elbow) signed a two-year extension with the Rays on Friday, keeping him under contract until 2024, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Glasnow had been due for one more year of arbitration before hitting the open market, but he'll now remain a Ray for two more seasons. The fact that Tampa Bay agreed to the deal now, rather than over the offseason, seemingly indicates they feel good about his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Glasnow is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, which would give him time to pitch in the majors before the end of the regular season, albeit likely as a reliever. The extension means he will remain in a good pitcher's park with the team that helped him break out for at least one year longer than expected.

The Yankees list German (calf) as their starting pitcher for Saturday's game in Oakland.

In his last outing Monday against the Mets, German covered a season-long 6.1 innings despite taking a 104 mile-per-hour line drive off his right calf in the fourth inning. He was able to pitch through the pain before being lifted midway through the seventh, though German told Marly Rivera of ESPN.com a day later that his calf felt extremely sore. On a more positive note, all imaging revealed nothing concerning, and German appears as though he'll be ready to take the hill on his normal four days' rest this weekend. Unless his calf bothers him again during the start, German shouldn't face any major workload restrictions Saturday.

Lyles did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two runs on nine hits over seven innings against the White Sox. He struck out two.

The veteran right-hander surrendered his only run on a solo homer by Andrew Vaughn to lead off the game. Lyles has been inconsistent lately, recording a solid 3.27 ERA over 33 innings in his last six starts but allowing four runs in two of those appearances. The 31-year-old has pitched drastically better at home with a 2.94 ERA and four home runs allowed in 70.1 innings, compared to a 5.85 ERA and 16 home runs allowed in 75.1 innings away from Baltimore.

Crawford did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.

Crawford surrendered a two-run double to Bo Bichette in the first inning and a two-run single to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth. The righty has been poor lately with a 9.31 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over 19.1 innings in his last four starts, issuing two or more walks in three of them.
