Urquidy (13-8) yielded one run on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday. He struck out six and took a loss against the Orioles.

Urquidy bounced back after a pair of disappointing outings but was outdueled by Dean Kremer, who fired a shutout against the Astros. The 27-year-old Urquidy has been tagged with 13 runs over his last three starts while taking a loss in each one. He's now sporting a 3.88 ERA with a 133:36 K:BB through 162.1 frames. Urquidy is expected to face the Rays at home next week.

Kremer (8-5) allowed four hits and two walks during a complete game shutout against Houston on Friday. He earned a win and struck out six.

Kremer never found himself in much danger during Friday's dominant outing. He tossed 700 of 106 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs. The 26-year-old righty produced his first career complete game and lowered his season ERA to an impressive 3.07 over 114.1 frames. Kremer has given up three or fewer runs in eight straight outings, posting a 2.29 ERA over 51 frames during that stretch. He's lined up to take the mound in Boston next week.

Mahle (shoulder) has been officially ruled out for the year, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Reports from mid-September indicated that it was unlikely Mahle would make it back this year, and that's now been officially confirmed by the team. The Twins' late-season collapse removed any potential incentive for Mahle to rush back, but that may not have been in play regardless of how the team performed. Whether or not his shoulder issues will delay him at the start of next season is not yet clear.

Wells (shoulder) won't pitch again in 2022, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Wells landed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Friday, but the move was backdated to Sept. 20. The right-hander would have been eligible to pitch during the Orioles' final regular-season game, but he'll be shut down for the remainder of the year. Mike Baumann will take Wells' place in the starting rotation Saturday against Houston while Spenser Watkins pitches out of the bullpen.

Martin is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Tigers.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation following his call-up from Triple-A Charlotte on Sept. 17. Martin proceeded to strike out five while allowing one earned run on three hits and one walk over six innings against this same Tigers team. The 25-year-old right-hander, who owns a 3.78 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 50 big-league innings this season, could make for an appealing streaming option in a rematch with the weak Detroit offense.

Greinke will likely start Tuesday's road matchup against the Tigers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Greinke allowed four runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out three in 5.1 innings Tuesday against the Twins and will get a few extra days of rest prior to his next start. Max Castillo is expected to be called up from Triple-A Omaha to start Sunday's game against the Mariners at home.

Wells was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation Friday, retroactive to Sept. 20.

Wells struggled mightily against the Tigers on Monday, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in three innings to take the loss. His injury may have contributed to his woes, and he'll be sidelined for at least two weeks. While the right-hander will be eligible to return for the final game of the regular season, it's possible that he's held out for the remainder of the season, especially if the Orioles are eliminated from postseason contention in the coming weeks. Spenser Watkins was called up Friday and will likely take Wells' place in the rotation.

Watkins was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Watkins was scratched from his scheduled start at Norfolk on Thursday and will ultimately rejoin the major-league club after Tyler Wells (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Watkins will pitch out of the bullpen while Mike Baumann takes Wells' spot in the rotation Saturday, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. Over 20 appearances (19 starts) for the Orioles this year, Watkins has posted a 4.37 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 94.2 innings.

Boyd (2-0) secured the win over the Athletics on Thursday, firing two scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout.

The veteran southpaw pounded 20 of his 25 pitches in for strikes while giving the Mariners a pair of valuable frames following a short start from George Kirby. Boyd has been an invaluable asset to manager Scott Servais as a multi-inning left-handed bullpen option, scattering four hits across 8.1 scoreless frames during his first six appearances since being activated from the injured list Sept. 1.

Varland was called up from Triple-A St. Paul and will start Friday versus the Angels.

Varland has made two starts with the Twins this season, struggling to 5.23 ERA and 1.45 WHIP while striking out 10 batters over 10.1 innings. He'll likely return to St. Paul following Friday's outing. Aaron Sanchez was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
