Bello (2-1) earned the win Wednesday over Atlanta, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.

Bello kept Atlanta off the board for five innings, then struggled a bit in the sixth. Boston was able to get ahead for good in the seventh, giving Bello his second straight win and his first quality start of the season. The right-hander now has a 5.01 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB through 23.1 innings over five starts. James Paxton (hamstring) is set to return from the injured list Friday versus the Cardinals, so Bello's starting role could be in danger if the Red Sox opt to go forward with a five-man rotation.

Glasnow (oblique) was removed from Wednesday's rehab start for Triple-A Durham with mild left side tightness, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

He was expected to cover four innings and/or 65 pitches in what was his second rehab start Wednesday but was pulled after just 11 pitches. Given that he's returning from a left oblique strain, the Rays may just be taking extra caution with Glasnow, but it's hard to view his early exit Wednesday as anything other than a setback. He'll be checked by team personnel Thursday, and it's unclear if he'll be able to make his third rehab start, which was scheduled to come next Tuesday.

Glasnow (oblique) was removed from Wednesday's rehab start with Triple-A Durham after just one inning, Patrick Kinas of Westwood One Sports reports.

Glasnow needed just 11 pitches to get through a scoreless frame before being lifted. He had been slated for four innings and/or 65 pitches, so it's possible he suffered some sort of setback. Glasnow was making the second of what was expected to be three rehab starts.

Whitlock (elbow) is expected to begin a rehab assignment next Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

It could be a one-start stint on the farm for Whitlock, who was placed on the injured list April 28 with right elbow ulnar neuritis. He got through a bullpen session Monday without issue and is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game Thursday at Fenway Park. That timeline lines him up to return during Boston's next road trip, which begins May 19.

Triple-A Charlotte placed Martin on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with a right forearm strain, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Martin has enjoyed a nice season-opening stretch in the Charlotte rotation, delivering a 2.81 ERA with 20 strikeouts through three starts covering 16 innings. It's unclear at this point when he might be able to return to action on the farm.

Brito did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Oakland. He struck out three.

Both runs against Brito came in the second inning on back-to-back homers from Carlos Perez and Jace Peterson. Brito ultimately didn't qualify for the win, allowing a walk and a double in the fifth inning before being relieved by Jimmy Cordero. The 25-year-old Brito is now 0-3 in his last six starts after winning his first two outings of the year. Brito now sports a 5.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through eight starts (31 innings) this season. Brito may be destined for Triple-A soon, with Luis Severino (lat) starting a rehab assignment Wednesday.

Muller (1-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks over four innings against the Yankees. He struck out six.

It's been a tough year so far for Muller, who's now allowed five or more runs in four out of eight starts. The 25-year-old left-hander sports an unsightly 7.34 ERA and 1.95 WHIP -- both the highest marks among qualified pitchers -- with a 27:21 K:BB. Muller will look to get on track in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week against Arizona.

Battenfield (0-4) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings in a 5-0 loss to the Tigers. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Battenfield allowed two runs in the first inning and another three in the third. The rookie right-hander would settle down, blanking Detroit over his final three frames, but he ultimately took his fourth defeat as Cleveland couldn't crack Eduardo Rodriguez in a shutout loss. It's been an up-and-down year so far for Battenfield. He now sports a 4.45 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 30.1 innings. Battenfield figures to line up for at least one more start while Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) remain sidelined.

Boston activated Paxton (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Paxton has officially joined the active roster ahead of his scheduled season debut Friday in a start against the visiting Cardinals. The appearance will be his first in a major-league game since April 6, 2021. The oft-injured 34-year-old left-hander posted an uninspiring 6.23 ERA and 26:16 K:BB across 21.2 innings during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester and seems like a wait-and-see type in most fantasy leagues rather than someone managers should scramble to pick up.

Rodriguez (4-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing four hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a 5-0 victory over the Guardians. He struck out eight.

It's the third consecutive win for Rodriguez as he extended his scoreless inning streak to 17.2 innings. The 30-year-old left-hander has been excellent after two mediocre outings to start the year, allowing just two earned runs over his last six starts (41.2 innings). His ERA is down to 1.57 -- third among qualified pitchers -- with a 0.78 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB. Rodriguez has emerged as one of fantasy baseball's biggest surprises so far this season.
