Schmidt (5-6) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings to earn the win Saturday over the Rockies.

Schmidt has won his last three starts, and Saturday's sharp effort gave him his first quality start since June 6. The eight strikeouts also matched his season high. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last 11 appearances, providing steady pitching after a rough start to the season. Schmidt has a 4.31 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 95:27 K:BB through 94 innings this year. He's projected for a favorable home matchup against the Royals next week.

Valdez was removed from Saturday's start versus the Angels in the seventh inning with an apparent injury, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Valdez had just served up a two-run home run to Zach Neto and was removed in the middle of the at-bat against the next hitter. It's worth noting that he had already thrown 103 pitches, so perhaps the left-hander's removal was just precautionary. Valdez has dealt with an ankle injury recently, although there's no indication whether that's what was bothering him Saturday. The southpaw struck out 13 batters and induced 23 whiffs against the Halos, though he was charged with five earned runs across 6.1 frames.

Lopez did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against Oakland. He struck out seven.

After logging a complete game shutout in his last start, Lopez turned in his worst outing of 2023. He set a season high in runs allowed while also tying his season high in the hits column. In six starts leading up to the All-Star break, Lopez posted a 2.72 ERA and 52:9 K:BB over 39.2 innings, and he will look to reclaim that form in his next start, which is expected to come during a four-game road series against the Mariners next week.

Ragans was returned to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The move comes shortly after Ragans fared well in a spot start in the second game of a doubleheader against the Rays, as the lefty fanned three over five innings of one-run ball. Ragans was the 27th man Saturday, so the Royals could bring him back at any time without having to wait 15 days, which would have been the case had he been recalled and optioned. There would seem to be a good chance Ragans has earned another start at some point next week.

Ryu (elbow) struck out five over five innings of one-run ball in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Ryu threw 66 pitches -- 46 of which went for strikes -- while yielding three hits and no walks. This was the veteran left-hander's first start with Buffalo after he allowed a total of just one run over seven innings in starts with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays and Low-A Dunedin. Ryu will need another rehab start in order to continue building up his pitch count, but that might be the final one before he rejoins Toronto's rotation.

Turnbull (neck) threw about 20 pitches in a live batting practice session Saturday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Turnbull's velocity was up a bit during the throwing session, and he came out of it with no issues. The right-hander will have another live BP session next week and could be ready for a rehab assignment not long after that.

Montas had to be shut down for a couple days recently due to soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The good news is he's throwing again, so it appears to have been a small bump in the road for the right-hander. Montas is slated to have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Neal ElAttrache -- the surgeon who operated on him on February -- early next week in Los Angeles. He's been limited to throwing on flat ground so far. Montas remains hopeful that he can make a late-season return.

Gausman's (side) next scheduled start has yet to be determined, but he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Left side discomfort caused Gausman to be scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Diamondbacks, but he seems to have avoided a significant injury. If he progresses well over the next few days, he could be an option to start during next week's series against the Padres, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday.

Bieber's official diagnosis which sent him to the injured list is right elbow inflammation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Bieber was initially reported to be dealing with a forearm injury, but the issue is evidently with his elbow. The fact that he's merely been diagnosed with inflammation rather than a strain is an encouraging sign, though there's still the possibility of a more serious injury, as he doesn't yet have a clear timeline for his return.

Gonzales (elbow) said upon his return from the All-Star break that his progress from a left flexor strain has been good, but he didn't elaborate any further, the team's official site reports.

The left-hander has been on the shelf since June 3 and was shut down from all activity for two weeks after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on June 26 in Los Angeles. There's no indication yet that Gonzales is inching closer to a throwing program, and he'll be in store for a lengthy rehab assignment whenever he does progress to that stage of his recovery.
