  • Albert Abreu RP | CIN

Yankees' Albert Abreu: Back from injury

Abreu (elbow) was activated off the 15-day injured list Tuesday,

Abreu had been out since late August with right elbow inflammation, but he's good to go after making four scoreless relief appearances. In 38 major-league innings this season, Abreu owns a 3.32 ERA but a poor 1.47 WHIP.

  • Ron Marinaccio RP | CIN

Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Lands on injured list

Marinaccio was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a stress reaction in his right shin.

Marinaccio has had a strong rookie season, posting a 2.05 ERA and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate in 44 innings of work. The injury means he'll end the season with those numbers and will remain unavailable for the ALDS, but it's possible he returns for the ALCS should the Yankees get that far.

  • Rays' Jimmy Yacabonis: Back in big leagues

Yacabonis' contract was selected by the Rays on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Yacabonis has thrown 13 innings at the big-league level for the Marlins and Rays this season, struggling to a 7.62 ERA. He's been far better in 33.2 innings in the minors, cruising to a 3.21 ERA while striking out 31.4 percent of opposing batters. Kevin Herget was designated for assignment to clear space on the roster.

  • Kevin Herget RP | NYM

Rays' Kevin Herget: Dropped from roster again

Herget was designated for assignment Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Herget has now been designated for assignment three times in the past six weeks. His latest stint on the 40-man roster lasted just one day, as he had his contract selected Monday morning and went on to allow four runs in 4.1 innings of relief that evening against the Red Sox. Jimmy Yacabonis was called up to replace Herget on the roster.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Giants' Shelby Miller: Tagged with loss Monday

Miller (0-1) allowed five runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Padres.

Miller hadn't allowed a run over 5.2 innings in his first three appearances since his Sept. 22 call-up, but that came crashing down Monday. He got through the seventh inning unscathed, then allowed five of the first six batters to reach in the eighth. He left with the bases loaded, and Jarlin Garcia promptly gave up a two-run double and a three-run home run to tack on three more runs to Miller's line. The right-hander might get one more appearance in 2022, but it'll almost certainly be in a low-leverage spot.

  • Tim Mayza RP | PHI

Blue Jays' Tim Mayza: Notches rain-aided save

Mayza worked a perfect seventh inning to record his second save of the season in Monday's 5-1 win over the Orioles.

The game was called on account of rain after the top of the eighth inning, leaving Mayza with the save despite him coming in well before the ninth. The southpaw has had a couple stumbles over the final month of the regular season, but he still sports a 4.09 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through 11 innings since the beginning of September with three wins and five holds in 16 appearances, in addition to both of his saves.

  • Greg Weissert RP | BOS

Yankees' Greg Weissert: Up as extra man

Weissert was recalled Tuesday to serve as the 29th man for the doubleheader against the Rangers.

The 27-year-old received his first taste of big-league action this season and has largely failed to impress. In 10.1 innings, he owns a 6.10 ERA, though his 1.06 WHIP is an encouraging mark.

  • Jose Quijada RP | LAA

Angels' Jose Quijada: Earns hold despite rough showing

Quijada allowed two earned runs over 1.2 innings in Monday's 5-4 extra-inning loss against Oakland. He allowed one hit, two walks and struck out one.

Quijada entered the game with one out in the eighth inning and retired both batters he faced. He then stuck around and retired two batters but allowed two runners to reach base in the ninth, both of whom scored after Aaron Loup relieved him. The hold was Quijada's fourth since Sept. 25, but he has now allowed earned runs to score in three of his last five outings and has not recorded a save since Aug. 14.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Rough end to season

Martinez allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Angels Tuesday. He fanned five and did not factor into the decision.

Marinez's season came to a close with a rocky start Monday, as he surrendered four runs for the fourth time in his final five starts. A silver lining is that none of the runs Monday came via the home run after he allowed seven over his previous four starts. The rookie finishes the season 4-6 with a 6.24 ERA over 57.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Justin Lawrence: Notches first big-league save

Lawrence recorded a save against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.

Usual closer Daniel Bard pitched two innings while recording a save Sunday, so he was given the day off while Lawrence was summoned in the ninth inning after Colorado had taken a one-run lead. The righty Lawrence allowed a leadoff single to Trea Turner but got the next three batters to fly out to notch his first career major-league save. Lawrence has struggled with a 5.70 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with the Rockies this season, and he's likely not in the plans as a future closer for Colorado.
