  • Phil Maton RP | CHC

Astros' Phil Maton: Fully recovered from hand injury

Maton (hand) said Thursday that he's fully healthy and expects to have a normal spring training, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Maton clarified that he might be "one bullpen behind," but it sounds like he won't have any restrictions at the start of camp. The reliever missed the postseason last year after fracturing his pitching hand when he punched his locker.

  • Phillies' Seranthony Dominguez: Signs two-year extension

Dominguez signed a two-year, $7 million contract extension with the Phillies on Thursday that includes an $8 million club option for 2025.

Dominguez had two years of arbitration eligibility left, but this new deal will buy those out along with potentially one free agent year. Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the right-hander is guaranteed at least $7.5 million when factoring in a $500,000 buyout. The 28-year-old was excellent in 2022, posting a 3.00 ERA and 61:22 K:BB across 51 frames while collecting nine saves. Dominguez should be in the mix for saves again in 2023 along with Craig Kimbrel, Gregory Soto and Jose Alvarado.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Angels' Matt Moore: Agrees to deal with Halos

Moore agreed to terms on a one-year, $7.55 million contract with the Angels on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Moore had been one of the best remaining available free agents after posting a 1.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 83:38 K:BB over 74 innings for the Rangers last season. He also collected five saves and should be in the late-inning mix for the Angels in 2023, particularly since he was effective against hitters from both sides of the plate, holding righties to a .537 OPS and lefties to a .634 OPS.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Dealing with ankle discomfort

Hudson is recovering well from his knee injury but is now battling ankle discomfort, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Hudson missed a significant portion of the 2022 season due to an ACL tear in June. It remains uncertain whether or not the 35-year-old reliever will be ready to go once spring training games begin.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Behind due to offseason illness

Jansen is a bit behind in Red Sox camp due to an offseason illness, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Jansen had to put a pause on his winter workouts because he and his family got sick. However, there's plenty of time for the veteran reliever to play catch-up and be at or near 100 percent come Opening Day. He inked a two-year, $32 million free-agent contract with Boston in December and projects to serve as the club's primary closer in 2023.

  • Cole Waites RP | DET

Giants' Cole Waites: Visiting doctors for lat injury

Waites suffered a right lat injury during the first week of February and is scheduled to visit the Giants' team doctor in the coming days, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Waites made just seven appearances for the Giants in 2022, but he pitched reasonably well during his limited sample of 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and four walks. The right-hander is expected to be a middle-innings option for San Francisco in 2023, but the lat injury could derail his chances of clinching a spot on the Opening Day roster.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Aiming to pitch this season

Treinen (shoulder) told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic on Wednesday that he wants to pitch this season.

Treinen made only six total appearances between the regular season and postseason last year and then required surgery in November to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder. He's said to be progressing well, but the veteran reliever still has several more months of rest and rehab ahead. If he does become an option for the Dodgers in 2023, it probably won't be until late August or September.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Out for WBC due to hamstring

Duran bowed out of the World Baseball Classic because of a mild hamstring injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Duran is all good now -- he's been throwing regular bullpen sessions at Twins camp -- but he decided to remove himself from consideration for the Dominican Republic's bullpen when he experienced a bit of hamstring tightness last month. The 25-year-old burst onto the MLB scene in 2022 and is expected to have a share of the closer role in Minnesota this season. Jorge Lopez looks like the primary frontrunner for saves.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

White Sox's Liam Hendriks: Remains without timeline

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Wednesday that Hendriks (illness) will be around the team for spring training, but an update on any timeline for the pitcher's return to baseball activities won't come until at least Opening Day, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Hendriks revealed Jan. 8 that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and while the 34-year-old is seemingly in good spirits since beginning treatment, his baseball career will be put on hold while he battles the disease. The White Sox haven't yet announced a replacement at closer while Hendriks is out, but Kendall Graveman -- who saved six games and notched 27 holds in 2022 -- seemingly represents the most logical fill-in option to begin the campaign.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Giants' Sam Long: Ready for spring training

Long (oblique) reported to spring training this week and won't face any restrictions, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Long missed the last month-plus of the 2022 season with a right oblique strain. The left-hander was effective as a reliever for the Giants in 2022 with a 3.61 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 42.1 innings of work, but he also has experience as a starter. The 27-year-old could compete for one of the final spots in the San Francisco rotation during the Cactus League, but his most likely landing spot to begin the 2023 campaign is the bullpen.
