  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Beginning assignment Sunday

Helsely (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Sunday, Jim Hayes of Bally Sports Midwest reports.

Helsley has been on the injured list since mid-June with a right forearm strain and is now set to complete the final steps in his recovery. The 29-year-old reliever will likely make a few appearances in Double-A before moving to Triple-A Memphis, but the Cardinals are confident Helsley will be able to return when first eligible Aug. 10. Once he's back, the right-hander will likely take over as St. Louis' primary closer, though Giovanny Gallegos may offer some competition for saves.

  • Javier Assad RP | CHC

    Cubs' Javier Assad: Starting Saturday

Assad will start Saturday against Atlanta, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Assad has just one start in the majors this season but has done well in his role as a multi-inning reliever by putting up a 3.24 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 50 innings. The 26-year-old righty threw 3.2 innings and 62 pitches in his last appearance July 31, so he may not face much of a workload restriction.

  • Xzavion Curry RP | NYM

Guardians' Xzavion Curry: Staying in rotation

Curry will start Sunday's game against the White Sox and remain in the Guardians' rotation going forward, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

He will start getting stretched out to remain in the rotation indefinitely, but Curry may not be ready Sunday to go deep enough to qualify for the win. He has not logged more than three innings in any of his last 10 appearances and has a 2.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 22 innings over that stretch.

  • Taylor Clarke RP | ARI

Royals' Taylor Clarke: Placed on 15-day IL

Clarke was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation.

Clarke escaped trouble to pitch a scoreless inning Wednesday against the Mets, although he did allow a hit while walking two batters. He has a 5.23 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 10 strikeouts over his last 10 appearances. James McArthur was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

  • Royals' James McArthur: Recalled from Omaha

Kansas City recalled McArthur from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

McArthur was just optioned out Wednesday, but the Royals need a replacement for Taylor Clarke as he heads to the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. McArthur figures to work in long relief.

  • Blake Taylor RP | TEX

Astros' Blake Taylor: Outrighted to Triple-A

Houston outrighted Taylor to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Taylor was designated for assignment by the Astros on Monday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 27-year-old has not appeared in a major-league game since 2022 and carries a 5.15 ERA through 36.2 innings of relief this season at Triple-A.

  • Mitch White RP | MIL

Blue Jays' Mitch White: Outrighted to Triple-A

Toronto outrighted White to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

White was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last weekend following the trade for Jordan Hicks. The 28-year-old right-hander had allowed 11 runs -- 10 earned -- through just 12.2 major-league innings this season.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

Twins' Brock Stewart: Moved to 60-day IL

Stewart (elbow) was transferred Friday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Jordan Luplow, claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Friday, will fill the vacated spot on the Twins' 40-man roster. Stewart has been out since late June due to right elbow tendinitis and just recently resumed throwing off a mound.

  • Andrew Vasquez RP | DET

Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Claimed by Detroit

Detroit claimed Vasquez off waivers from the Phillies on Friday.

Vasquez was designated for assignment Wednesday as the Phillies did some 40-man roster shuffling in the aftermath of Tuesday's trade deadline. The 29-year-old left-hander had posted an impressive 2.27 ERA with 34 strikeouts through 39.2 major-league innings this season for Philadelphia and could wind up being a nice waiver-wire grab for the Tigers.

  • Tyson Miller RP | CHW

Mets' Tyson Miller: Claimed by Mets

The Mets claimed Miller off waivers from the Dodgers on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse.

Miller will now join his third team in the last month after being DFA'd by the Brewers in early July and by the Dodgers on Wednesday. Miller has a 3.45 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 28.2 innings in Triple-A this season and will serve as organizational depth with the Mets.
