The Pirates recalled Bolton from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Bolton has put up a rather unimpressive 6.52 ERA and 2.22 WHIP through 19.1 innings in the majors this season. Nonetheless, he will come up to give Pittsburgh a fresh bullpen arm for its final series against Miami. Luis Ortiz was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

The Yankees optioned Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Gomez made his major-league debut Thursday in Toronto and struck out four of the eight batters he faced over two scoreless innings of relief. The 23-year-old right-hander should be a consideration for the Opening Day roster next spring, whether in a rotation or bullpen role. He's mostly worked as a starter in the minors.

Vasquez (calf) was activated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Vasquez returns to the Tigers' bullpen for the final weekend of the 2023 campaign after missing about four weeks due to a calf injury. The 30-year-old southpaw has posted a 3.55 ERA and 40:22 K:BB in 45.2 innings of relief this season between Philadelphia and Detroit.

The Nationals placed Garcia on the paternity list Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Garcia is allowed to miss up to three games as he spends time with his expanding family, which would keep him out for the rest of the year. Tanner Rainey (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move and will take Garcia's place in the bullpen.

Rainey has been on the shelf all year while recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in August 2022. He began a rehab assignment in early August of this year and posted a 3.75 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 12 innings while striking out 13 batters and walking six. Rainey may make an appearance out of the Nats' bullpen before the end of the year, but he doesn't figure to serve in a prominent role as he re-adjusts to major-league batters.

Woodford is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Reds at Busch Stadium.

Woodford will make a second straight turn through the rotation in what will likely mark his final appearance of 2023. In his return from Triple-A Memphis last weekend in San Diego, Woodford struck out one over 3.2 innings and gave up one earned run on four hits and two walks. He threw 78 pitches in that outing, so Woodford should be fully stretched out Friday.

Erceg (4-4) recorded the win against the Twins on Thursday, firing a scoreless seventh inning during which he issued three walks and recorded a strikeout.

The right-hander nearly blew the 1-1 lead he was tasked with preserving, but he was able to get Donovan Solano swinging to snuff out the bases-loaded threat. Erceg has settled down after an uneven early part of the season, as he's now posted scoreless appearances in 14 of his last 15 trips to the mound, including in seven straight outings.

Jackson was activated from the paternity leave list Thursday.

Jackson missed the Giants' series against the Padres but will be available this weekend versus the Dodgers. He's been terrific out of San Francisco's bullpen this season, posting a 2.97 ERA and 43:15 K:BB over 33.1 frames.

Chapman (6-5) blew a save and was tagged with Thursday's loss to Seattle. He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk without retiring a batter.

Chapman, who worked the eighth inning of a close game Wednesday, was given the closing opportunity Thursday but failed to secure a win that would have clinched Texas' first postseason berth since 2016. He was removed after back-to-back singles and a walk (eight pitches, three strikes). Jonathan Hernandez inherited Chapman's runners and nearly got out of jam, but he allowed a two-run, walk-off double to J.P. Crawford. Neither single off Chapman was hard hit, but the performance adds to a stretch of shaky relief from the southpaw. Over his last 14 outings going back to Aug. 21, Chapman is 1-3 with two blown saves, a 6.23 ERA and 12 walks over 13 innings.

Shaw picked up the save in Thursday's 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks, striking out one over a perfect inning.

Shaw entered the contest with a two-run lead in the ninth and needed only 11 pitches to retire the side and secure his fourth save of the season. The right-handed reliever has converted his last two save opportunities and has struck out at least one batter in 13 of his last 15 appearances. He carries a 1.08 ERA in September to go along with a 20:6 K:BB.
