The Diamondbacks claimed Vieira off waivers from the Orioles on Thursday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Vieira made just one appearance with the O's before being DFA'd, allowing three earned runs on one hit and four walks while failing to record an out. He'll now join his third organization of the year but will almost certainly be limited to low-leverage situations out of Arizona's bullpen.

Joyce earned a hold by tossing a scoreless inning while allowing one hit against San Diego on Wednesday.

Joyce was called up from the minors Sunday and was deployed in a high-leverage situation in his first outing with the big club, getting the eighth inning with the Angels up one run. The fireballing reliever immediately got into trouble when Fernando Tatis led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Joyce calmed down to retire the next three batters without Tatis advancing further. Joyce didn't notch any strikeouts, but he had his heater working in the outing, reaching 103.3 mph, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. The right-hander fanned 34 batters over 19 frames in the minors this season and could certainly be a big bullpen asset (and perhaps a future closer) in the majors if he learns to harness his control. In 10 innings with the Angels as a rookie last season, Joyce fanned 10 batters but also issued nine free passes.

Munoz (back) played catch prior to Thursday's game in Oakland, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Drayer adds that Munoz was seen giving fist bumps to others afterward, which would seem to indicate things went well. Munoz had to be removed from an appearance Thursday versus the Athletics, but there's optimism he can avoid the injured list and could be available to pitch this weekend in Kansas City, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.

Brito struck out a batter over two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Padres.

After the Padres lost Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) to the injured list last week, Brito looked to be a potential candidate to enter the rotation, but San Diego instead called up Randy Vasquez and Adam Mazur to fill the open starting roles. Vasquez and Mazur have already been confirmed for their second turns through the rotation Thursday and Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, respectively, so Brito will stick around in a lower-leverage role out of the San Diego bullpen. Since he fell short in his bid for a spot in the Opening Day rotation, Brito has made 19 relief appearances for the Padres this season, going 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 31 innings.

Hurt (shoulder) is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Hurt has been out since landing on the injured list April 20 due to right shoulder inflammation. He was eventually transferred to the 60-day injured list and isn't eligible to be activated until June 16. The right-hander will likely need to make several rehab appearances before he's deemed ready to return to the big club. He got into three games for the Dodgers prior to his injury, allowing one earned run while posting a 3:1 K:BB over 6.2 innings.

The Pirates signed Bruihl to a one-year contract Thursday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Bruihl had been at Triple-A Louisville with the Reds until being released earlier this week in what was presumably an opt-out situation. The left-handed reliever collected a 2.31 ERA and 24:10 K:BB over 23.1 innings with Louisville. The Pirates will announce a corresponding move later Thursday.

The Dodgers outrighted Hernandez to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday after he cleared waivers, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Hernandez was removed from the Dodgers' 40-man roster last week after he allowed nine earned runs across 9.2 innings. The 29-year-old remains in the organization, however, and is likely to re-enter Oklahoma City's rotation.

The Reds reinstated Pagan (triceps) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Right triceps tightness had kept Pagan sidelined since May 19, but he made enough improvement over the past couple of weeks to make his return to the Cincinnati bullpen without the need of a rehab assignment prior to being activated. The 33-year-old righty owns a 4.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 19.1 innings on the season.

The Red Sox activated Campbell (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Campbell has been out for much of the season with a right shoulder impingement. He allowed just one unearned run with an 8:2 K:BB over 6.1 innings on his rehab assignment, but the Red Sox have elected to keep him at Worcester for the time being.

Munoz (back) said Wednesday that he's feeling better and remains optimistic he'll avoid a stint on the injured list, MLB.com reports.

The results of the right-hander's MRI are still pending, but Munoz appears confident the flareup of a lower-back issue that caused his removal from Tuesday's appearance is temporary. Munoz revealed Wednesday he had actually been dealing with his back strain since the second game of the season and has been managing it with treatment and other pain-management remedies. Consequently, the collision with the Athletics' Max Schuemann in Tuesday's game wasn't the actual culprit, as Munoz added that he had already been feeling back tightness when warming up in the bullpen that night. Munoz's MRI results could be the ultimate determining factor in whether he avoids an IL stint, with those results likely to be available at some point Thursday.
