Faedo (hip) is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Faedo threw a scoreless inning Wednesday in his first rehab outing and is in line to pitch again Saturday in what could be his final appearance with Toledo. Faedo owns a 3.38 ERA, six holds and a 3-1 record across 34.2 innings with the Tigers.

Contreras was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday.

Contreras' demotion is part of a flurry of roster moves made by the Astros on Friday, as the team needed his 26-man roster spot for Jake Bloss. Contreras didn't appear in a game with Houston after being called up June 16.

The Yankees recalled Gomez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Gomez fanned the side in his lone appearance with the Yankees earlier this season. He's been used as a starter in the minors but figures to settle in as a long reliever in the majors this time around.

The Yankees selected Bickford's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Bickford inked a minor-league deal with the Yankees back in April and has received a call-up to the big club after holding a 2.93 ERA and 35:12 K:BB across 27.2 frames with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He'll work the middle innings for the Yankees.

The Yankees designated Gonzalez for assignment Friday.

Gonzalez was acquired via trade from the Dodgers over the offseason and didn't pitch well in pinstripes, holding a 3.86 ERA but an ugly 11:13 K:BB over 23.1 innings. The 28-year-old had a career 3.22 ERA and 86:31 K:BB in 89.1 innings coming into 2024, so there could be interest by way of waivers or trade.

The Cardinals activated Gallegos (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

St. Louis has a rare Friday off day, but it will have Gallegos back in its bullpen Saturday versus the Giants. The veteran reliever has been out since early May with a right shoulder impingement and didn't pitch well on a rehab assignment, allowing eight runs with a 5:4 K:BB over 6.1 innings. Gallegos will probably be eased into high-leverage situations.

Estrada (3-1) blew a save but was credited with the win in Thursday's victory versus the Brewers. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over one inning.

Primary closer Robert Suarez had pitched on back-to-back days, so San Diego turned to Estrada with a two-run lead in the ninth inning, though the latter had taken the mound on consecutive days as well. Estrada couldn't close things out, giving up a pair of runs on a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a double. To his credit, the right-hander kept the game tied by striking out the final two batters he faced, and he ended up in the win column when Jake Cronenworth smacked a walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame. Though Estrada continues to rack up punchouts -- of his past 13 outs, 12 have come via strikeout -- he's been struggling of late, giving up eight runs on 10 hits and three walks over that span of five outings.

Ortiz is in line to serve as a bulk reliever in Friday's game versus the Rays, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Carmen Mlodzinski will open for the Pirates before handing things off to Ortiz. Each of Ortiz's last two appearances have come in bulk relief and he's fared well, yielding just one run with a 6:1 K:BB over 9.1 innings of work.

Nittoli (0-1) took the loss against the Royals on Thursday, allowing an earned run on a solo home run and recording two strikeouts over two innings.

Nittoli paid dearly for his one mistake, a tie-breaking solo home run surrendered to Bobby Witt in the eighth inning. The Athletics would prove incapable of erasing the one-run deficit in the final two frames, saddling Nittoli with his first major-league loss in 13 career outings. Despite the stumble Thursday, Nittoli has been a solid bullpen piece for manager Mark Kotsay since being summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas in early June, posting a 2.25 ERA across eight innings over seven appearances.

Mlodzinski will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher in Friday's game versus the Rays, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

It's the third opener assignment this season for Mlodzinski, who didn't allow a run in his first two tries. Luis Ortiz is a good bet to follow in a bulk-relief role.
