  • Joe Boyle SP | TB

Rays' Joe Boyle: Will be optioned back to minors

Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said Friday that Boyle will be optioned to Triple-A Durham, Tom Krasniqi of 95.3 WDAE reports.

Boyle surrendered six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks over four innings in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals and has been tagged for 16 runs (15 earned) over his last three starts. The right-hander has dominated at Durham this season (1.73 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96:31 K:BB in 73 innings) and shown flashes at the major-league level, but Boyle is still looking for more consistency.

  • Dan Altavilla RP | CHW

White Sox's Dan Altavilla: Starting rehab assignment

Altavilla (lat) was sent to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Jack Ankony of SI.com reports.

Altavilla has been on the shelf since Aug. 2 with a right lat strain, but he's been cleared to begin a minor-league rehab stint. The 32-year-old reliever has a 2.36 ERA in 26.2 innings with the White Sox in 2025.

  • Felix Bautista RP | BAL

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Shifted to 60-day injured list

The Orioles transferred Bautista (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. Bautista will be sidelined until at least late next season following surgery earlier this week to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

  • Dugan Darnell RP | COL

Rockies' Dugan Darnell: Lands on IL with hip injury

The Rockies placed Darnell on the 15-day injured list Friday with left hip inflammation.

Darnell had made nine relief appearance since being added to the Rockies' roster, posting a 3.86 ERA but an ugly 5:7 K:BB over 11.2 innings. He will be eligible to return Sept. 6, but it's unclear whether he'll be ready at that time.

  • Angel Chivilli RP | COL

Rockies' Angel Chivilli: Back in bigs

The Rockies recalled Chivilli from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Chivilli was optioned to Triple-A last Friday after a week-long stint on the restricted list. The 23-year-old will rejoin the Rockies bullpen ahead of a three-game series in Pittsburgh. Chivilli has a 7.29 ERA and a 31:19 K:BB across 42 innings with Colorado this season.

  • Ian Gibaut RP | CIN

Reds' Ian Gibaut: Moved to 60-day IL

The Reds transferred Gibaut (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Zach Maxwell. Gibaut is set to miss the remainder of the season following arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder.

  • Zach Maxwell RP | CIN

Reds' Zach Maxwell: Officially brought up

The Reds selected Maxwell's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Maxwell will make his MLB debut when he gets into a game. The 24-year-old reliever has a 4.17 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP with a 59:32 K:BB across 49.2 innings for Louisville in 2025. Ian Gibaut (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Steven Cruz RP | KC

Royals' Steven Cruz: Early stages of throwing program

Cruz (shoulder) is throwing from about 75 feet and is in the beginning stages of his throwing progression, MLB.com reports.

Cruz was placed on the injured list Aug. 3 with right shoulder tendinitis and, per manager Matt Quatraro, is still in the early stages of his rehab. While no firm return date has been set, the slow pace of his recovery suggests the 26-year-old is more likely to return sometime in September than by the end of August.

  • Fernando Cruz RP | NYY

Yankees' Fernando Cruz: Could be activated next week

Cruz (oblique) is slated to make a four-out minor-league rehab appearance Friday, and if that goes well, he could be activated from the injured list as soon as Monday, per MLB.com.

Cruz landed on the injured list in late June due to a left oblique strain. The veteran reliever kicked off a minor-league rehab stint Aug. 14 and has appeared in three games so far (two with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and one with Double-A Somerset), allowing four runs on five hits with a 4:1 K:BB over 2.1 innings. Though those numbers are poor, Cruz's most recent outing was strong -- he struck out the side and gave up only one hit over one scoreless frame Tuesday. Once activated off the IL, Cruz should be a candidate for high-leverage work, though he may be eased back given his lengthy absence. He also may be lower on the depth chart than when he last pitched, as New York added David Bednar and Camilo Doval to the bullpen at the trade deadline.

  • Angel Zerpa RP | KC

Royals' Angel Zerpa: Earns fifth win

Zerpa (5-1) earned the win in Thursday's 6-4 victory over the Rangers. He allowed no hits or walks while striking out one over 1.2 innings.

The left-hander entered in relief of Michael Lorenzen with the bases loaded and one out in a tie game in the fifth inning Thursday and induced an inning-ending double play before tossing a perfect sixth frame. Zerpa has been on a roll, stringing together seven straight scoreless outings and posting a 2.43 ERA over 29.2 innings across his past 30 appearances.
