Trevor Megill RP | MIL
Brewers' Trevor Megill: Opening Wednesday's contest
Megill will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.
After giving up just one run and striking out 22 batters through 11.2 innings since Aug. 16, Megill will get an opportunity to make his first MLB start. Given that Megill hasn't thrown more than two innings in any of his appearances this season, he's unlikely to work more than once through the order before turning the game over to the bullpen. Wednesday would have been Colin Rea's turn in the rotation, so he'll presumably work as a bulk reliever behind Megill.

Colin Selby RP | BAL
Pirates' Colin Selby: Opening Wednesday's contest
Selby will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Selby's last outing as an opener came Sept. 6 against Milwaukee, with the 25-year-old surrendering three runs in just one inning. He holds an 8.64 ERA through 16.2 frames on the season. The Pirates aren't likely to have Selby work more than an inning or two before he turns the game over to Quinn Priester, who is expected to be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to serve as a bulk reliever.

Gus Varland RP | WAS
Dodgers' Gus Varland: Moved to 60-day IL
Varland (knee) was transferred Tuesday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Kyle Hurt, who is joining the Dodgers' bullpen ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Padres. Varland is done for the season with what has been diagnosed as right knee inflammation.

Victor Gonzalez RP | LAA
Dodgers' Victor Gonzalez: Optioned to OKC
The Dodgers optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports.
Gonzalez has pitched well over the last handful of weeks, but he'll get the boot Tuesday with swing-and-miss maestro Kyle Hurt arriving in Los Angeles. Gonzalez, 27, holds a 4.13 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB in 32.2 major-league innings this year.

Dylan Lee RP | ATL
Braves' Dylan Lee: Moved to 15-day IL
Atlanta placed Lee on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation.
Lee was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following the first half of Monday's doubleheader against the Phillies, but that move has now been voided because he injured his shoulder while pitching in a major-league game. The 29-year-old southpaw is not expected to return to the NL East leaders in 2023.

Sean Reid-Foley RP | ATL
Mets' Sean Reid-Foley: Lands on IL with lat strain
The Mets placed Reid-Foley on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right lat strain.
Reid-Foley suffered the injury while pitching in relief Monday against the Diamondbacks and seems doubtful to make it back to the Mets' active roster before the end of the season. Reed Garrett is up from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the bullpen vacancy.

Sean Reid-Foley RP | ATL
Mets' Sean Reid-Foley: Getting imaging on shoulder
Reid-Foley is being evaluated Tuesday for a possible shoulder strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Reid-Foley worked a scoreless inning of relief Monday against the Diamondbacks, but his shoulder was barking afterward and he has been sent for imaging scans. If it is indeed a shoulder strain, the 28-year-old right-hander will likely be shut down for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.

Josh Simpson RP | SEA
Marlins' Josh Simpson: Summoned to majors
Simpson was recalled Tuesday from Triple-A Jacksonville, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Simpson has struck out 62 batters in 36.1 innings this season in the minors, but all of those punchouts have come alongside a 4.71 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. The 26-year-old left-hander will be making his major-league debut whenever he gets into a game for the Marlins.
