Phillies' Jose Alvarado: Secures save in sketchy outing
Alvarado yielded a run on two hits and two walks in one inning Friday. He struck out one and earned a save against the Cardinals.
Alvarado coughed up an RBI single to Tommy Edman with two outs in the ninth inning but struck out Lars Nootbaar with the bases loaded to close out a 5-4 victory. Alvarado has allowed two earned runs on five hits and five walks over his last five frames, pushing his season ERA to 1.98 through 36.1 innings. He picked up his first save since Sept. 4 and has now converted eight of his 10 chances.

Camilo Doval RP | NYY
Giants' Camilo Doval: Blows save, takes loss
Doval (6-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk Friday. He recorded just one out and was charged with a blown save and a loss against the Rockies.
Doval was tasked with finishing a 2-1 win but couldn't get the job done. Elehuris Montero knocked an RBI single with one out and a throwing error by Mike Yastrzemski allowed the winning run to come home. Doval has yielded just one run over his last 7.2 innings since his last blown save Aug. 23. The 26-year-old now owns a 2.98 ERA with 37 saves in 45 chances this season.

Justin Lawrence RP | PIT
Rockies' Justin Lawrence: Exits with ankle injury
Lawrence exited Friday's game against the Giants with an ankle injury, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Lawrence entered the game in the eighth inning after Chase Anderson worked seven hitless innings. He retired the first batter via strikeout, but he twisted his ankle on the follow-through of his delivery on the third strike. If Lawrence is sidelined for any amount of time, Tyler Kinley should a greater share of save chances.

Alexis Diaz RP | TEX
Reds' Alexis Diaz: Earns five-out save
Diaz picked up the save Friday against the Mets. He struck out two over 1.2 perfect innings.
Diaz was called upon to face Pete Alonso with the tying runs on base and one out in the eighth inning but induced a couple of flyouts to preserve a 5-3 lead. He continued with a perfect ninth to secure his 37th save on the season. He's now tied with Camilo Doval of the Giants for the National League lead in saves.

Drey Jameson RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Drey Jameson: Shut down from throwing
Jameson (elbow) has had his throwing program interrupted by arm tenderness, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Jameson chose to rehab his strained UCL rather than have surgery to repair the issue. He was hoping to return at some point in 2023, though this development has almost certainly closed the door on that possibility.

Daniel Palencia RP | CHC
Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Optioned to Triple-A
The Cubs optioned Palencia to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Following the return of Marcus Stroman (ribs) from the injured list Friday, Palencia will be pushed off the active roster. The 23-year-old righty struggled heavily in the minors to start the year but was able to record a respectable 4.09 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 22 innings in the majors.

Daniel Bard RP | COL
Rockies' Daniel Bard: Faces hitters
Bard (forearm) threw a live batting practice Friday, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
Bard resumed throwing Sept. 5 -- two days after he landed on the injured list with right forearm fatigue -- and has now progressed to facing live hitters. The right-hander likely won't get activated from the IL when first eligible Monday, but manager Bud Black said he expects Bard to return before the end of the season.

Alex Young RP | CIN
Reds' Alex Young: Starts rehab assignment
Young (COVID-19) has been sent to Triple-A Louisville to begin a rehab assignment, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Young was one of several Reds players to go on the COVID-19 injured list recently, but he has now been cleared for game action. He shouldn't need a lengthy rehab stint considering he's been out just under a week.

Sean Manaea RP | NYM
Giants' Sean Manaea: Remaining in rotation
Manaea is slated to pitch during Sunday's game against the Rockies in Colorado.
The Giants could end up deploying Manaea behind an opener, but in any case, he'll pitch the majority of the innings Sunday and appears to have settled into a rotation spot at this point. While picking up a start Tuesday for the first time since May 10, Manaea took a loss to the Guardians but struck out five while allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks. Despite delivering solid returns in the strikeouts, ERA and WHIP categories his last time out, Manaea makes for a risky streaming option Sunday at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Devin Williams RP | NYM
Brewers' Devin Williams: Nails down 34th save
Williams picked up the save Thursday against Miami, pitching a perfect inning while not recording any strikeouts.
Williams needed only 11 pitches to get through the middle of the Marlins' lineup and record his 34th save of the season. The right-hander has now converted each of his last three save attempts and has not allowed any hits, walks or runs in three straight appearances. Thursday's save did mark the first time in his last seven outings that he failed to record at least one strikeout, however.
