  • Luke Little RP | CHC

Cubs' Luke Little: Placed on injured list

The Cubs placed Little on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left shoulder strain, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Little had to leave his appearance Friday after just four pitches due to reported soreness in his shoulder, and imaging revealed a strain that will cause him to land on the IL. Ethan Roberts was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move in order to replenish Chicago's bullpen depth.

  • Kyle Leahy RP | STL

Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Added as 27th man

The Cardinals added Leahy to their active roster for Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Leahy owns a 4.13 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through 28.1 innings in the majors this season, and he'll now return to St. Louis in order to add extra depth to the bullpen for Saturday's twin bill. He'll likely be returned to Triple-A Memphis after the conclusion of the second game.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Pirates' David Bednar: Secures save in return from IL

Bednar struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 17th save of the season in a 4-1 win over the White Sox.

Activated from the IL earlier in the day after recovering from an oblique strain that cost him nearly a month of action, Bednar fired nine of 12 pitches for strikes while topping out at 97.1 mph with his fastball. Aroldis Chapman had a 4.70 ERA over 7.2 innings in Bednar's absence while converting three of four save chances, and he should return to setup duties now that Bednar is healthy.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Collects save No. 10

Diaz walked two and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 10th save of the season in a 7-6 win over the Rockies.

It didn't look like Diaz's services would be needed when the Mets built a 7-2 lead through five frames, but a late collapse by the rest of the bullpen forced the right-hander into action. Diaz has maintained a pristine 0.00 ERA since coming off the IL in mid-June, converting five of six save chances with a 0.90 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 6.2 innings.

  • Hector Neris RP | HOU

Cubs' Hector Neris: Snags 13th save

Neris earned the save in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Cardinals, pitching two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout and one walk.

After rookie Hunter Bigge failed to close out St. Louis with a five-run lead in the ninth, Neris entered with one out and two runners on. He induced a Brendan Donovan lineout before loading the bases with a walk to Nolan Arenado. He then fanned Lars Nootbaar to wrap up the game. Since blowing a save June 17 against San Francisco, Neris has now thrown seven consecutive scoreless outings, collecting three saves and producing 11:3 K:BB over 6.1 innings.

  • Luke Little RP | CHC

Cubs' Luke Little: Battling shoulder issue

Little was removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals due to shoulder discomfort, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Little was only able to throw four pitches and didn't retire a batter before his shoulder forced him to make an early exit. The Cubs haven't offered any information regarding the seriousness of the southpaw's injury, and there's no telling whether he'll be available to pitch again before the All-Star break.

  • Kyle Finnegan RP | DET

Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Secures 24th save

Finnegan picked up the save in Friday's 5-2 win against the Brewers, pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts.

The Nationals closer promptly retired all three batters he faced for his 24th save, good for second in the National League behind Ryan Helsley. This straightforward save was a welcome sight for Finnegan after he yielded three runs across his two previous outings. The Washington righty sports a 2.52 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB over 39.1 innings while going 24-for-28 in save chances.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Earns fourth save

Hudson earned the save against the Tigers on Friday, walking two and striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Dodgers deployed closer Evan Phillips in the sixth inning, ensuring he would get some work after he hadn't pitched since July 6, so Hudson was called upon to protect a 4-3 lead in the ninth and did so despite throwing just 10 strikes on 25 pitches. This was Hudson's first save since May 20, as Alex Vesia likely would have worked the ninth had he been available Friday. On the year, Hudson owns four saves and 13 holds with a 1.63 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 42:7 K:BB over 38.2 innings.

  • Padres' Wandy Peralta: IL move official

The Padres placed Peralta on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 10, with a left adductor strain.

Peralta sustained a groin strain during an appearance against Seattle on Tuesday and hasn't pitched since. His move to the IL opens up a spot on the active roster for Sean Reynolds. Peralta will be eligible to return in late July.

  • Padres' Sean Reynolds: Officially promoted

The Padres called up Reynolds from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Reynolds is set to join the big-league roster with Wandy Peralta (groin) headed to the IL in a corresponding move. Reynolds was traded to San Diego from the Marlins last August and has appeared in 29 games with El Paso this season, three of which were starts. He'll pitch out of the bullpen for the Padres, and he'll be making his MLB debut if he gets into a game.
