  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Five strikeouts in two spring innings

Vizcaino has allowed two hits while striking out five in two scoreless innings so far this spring.

The 25-year-old hit triple digits on the radar gun in his Grapefruit League debut, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark, and followed it up with another multi-strikeout performance Tuesday. Jason Grilli is on the verge of making his spring debut, so the competition for the closer role in Atlanta may start to really heat up. It would make sense if the Braves attempted to build Grilli's trade value back up by giving him the ninth inning to start the season, but Grilli has to prove that he's fully recovered from the Achilles injury.

  • Diamondbacks' Rubby De La Rosa: Will be the team's fourth starter to begin season

De La Rosa will start the Diamondbacks' fourth game of the regular season, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

As expected, De La Rosa will follow Zack Greinke, Shelby Miller and Patrick Corbin in the rotation. Robbie Ray, Zack Godley and Archie Bradley are competing for the fifth spot. De La Rosa will need to improve on last year's 4.67 ERA and 1.36 WHIP to be fantasy relevant in 2016.

  • Akeel Morris RP | SF

Mets' Akeel Morris: Sent to minor league camp

Morris was sent to minor league camp on Friday, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.

In the first round of cuts the Mets dispatched several arms and a catcher to minor league camp, with Rafael Montero being the only notable player exiled. Morris should provide organizational bullpen depth this year.

  • Dario Alvarez RP | SEA

Mets' Dario Alvarez: On way to Triple-A

Alvarez was optioned by the Mets to their minor-league camp on Friday.

Alvarez had allowed a pair of runs on two hits and five walks in two innings in camp. With other options available in the team's pen, he will open to 2016 at Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Rafael Montero RP | NYY

Mets' Rafael Montero: Heading back to Triple-A

Montero (rotator cuff) was among those in the first group of players optioned to the minors by the Mets on Friday.

Montero was a longshot to head north with the team after missing most of last season with rotator cuff stiffness. His getting sent down early is a signal of his falling stature within the organization. Montero will need to show he is healthy and rebuild his credibility at Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Jimmy Nelson RP | LAD

Brewers' Jimmy Nelson: Throws two innings in spring out Thursday

Nelson allowed one earned run over two innings in his second outing of the spring Thursday.

Nelson ended last season on the 60-day disabled list after being struck in the head by a line drive, but he did not suffer any lingering issues, and is 100 percent healthy this spring. Nelson has allowed just one earned run in four innings this spring, but he still has some tuning to do, as evidenced by his 1:4 K:BB ratio. He is a lock to open the season in the Brewers' rotation, but it remains to be seen where he will slot it.

  • Josh Edgin RP | WAS

Mets' Josh Edgin: Throws live batting practice Thursday

Edgin (elbow) threw his first live batting practice session since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

Edgin continues to progress nicely from the operation and appears to still be in line for a return around the beginning of May.

  • Matt Grace RP | ARI

Nationals' Matt Grace: Optioned to Triple-A

Grace was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Grace was one of three players optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, joining Wilmer Difo and Taylor Jordan. In two appearances this spring, Grace struck out four batters across 2.0 innings of work. He'll continue his spring in the Nationals' minor league camp.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: To throw bullpen Friday

Iglesias will toss a bullpen session Friday and is scheduled to start Monday's spring game against the Angels, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

A shoulder-conditioning program has left Iglesias a bit behind in spring training, but he's progressing nicely and should have no problem being ready in time for Opening Day.

  • Phillies' David Hernandez: Could be ready to throw off a mound in a day or two

Hernandez (triceps) said he could be ready to pitch off a mound in the next day or two, CSN Philadelphia reports.

Hernandez said he should still be ready for Opening Day despite not pitching since March 1 due to triceps tendinitis. He is expected to open the year as the Phillies' closer if healthy.
