Gomez (3-2) allowed no runs on two hits over 1.1 innings to earn the win Wednesday at the Diamondbacks.

After the Phillies blew an eighth-inning lead, Gomez recorded the last out of the frame before pitching a scoreless ninth to keep the game tied, and after his departure, the offense scored a tenth-inning run to give him his third win of the year. Despite picking up the victory, he's now allowed 15 base runners in 10.1 innings of work this month to raise his WHIP to 1.15.

Hoffman is "pretty close" to getting promoted to the big leagues, according to manager Walt Weiss, the Denver Post's Nick Groke reports.

This lines up with the speculation regarding the Rockies' top pitching prospect, but it's the first time Weiss has admitted Hoffman is knocking on the door. Tyler Chatwood could come off the DL to replace Eddie Butler on Monday of next week, and when Hoffman inevitably gets the call, he will likely replace Jorge De La Rosa. Hoffman has a 3.49 ERA and 88:29 K:BB in 87.2 innings at Triple-A, and would be an intriguing option, especially as a spot starter for his road starts.

Vizcaino was handed a loss Tuesday after entering a 2-2 ballgame in the ninth inning against the Indians and allowing three runs, though only one earned, on two walks, two hits, and a wild pitch.

Tuesday's loss was a rare poor outing for Vizcaino (1-3) who entered the day with a 1.93 ERA. Despite the loss, Vizcaino still boasts a 2.16 ERA and a blazing fastball, making him a name that comes up frequently as a possible trade candidate with the deadline just a month away. With just 12 save opportunities, Vizcaino has seen his share of non-save, late-game situations, and could see even more of those non-save situations should the Braves elect to trade him to a contender at the deadline.

Strop may be in position to earn a save Wednesday against the Reds.

With Hector Rondon unavailable for Wednesday's game, per Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com, Strop seems to be the most likely option to fill in if the Cubs are in need of a closer. Strop has been dominant this season, posting a career best strikeout rate of 35.6 percent and holding opponents to a .170 batting average.

Iglesias pitched two scoreless innings in relief against the Cubs on Tuesday, striking out four while allowing a hit.

Overall, the Reds bullpen threw eight scoreless and hitless innings until the Cubs finally got to J.J. Hoover in the 15th inning. Iglesias has pitched thrice in relief since returning from the DL, covering five innings, and has allowed one run while striking out six against two walks and two hits.

Hoover was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday by the Reds.

Though he hasn't yet been designated off the 40-man roster, it's possible that this could be the end of Hoover's tenure with the Reds. It certainly seems as if he's beyond repair, at least by them.

Hoover was crushed by the Cubs in the 15th inning Tuesday, giving up five runs on three hits, including a grand slam homer by Javy Baez.

Hoover's also walked two batters in the loss. His line nearly mirrored his most recent disaster last weekend against the Padres, though at least in that one he managed to get two strikeouts. He has allowed homers in three consecutive outings and has given up a whopping nine homers in 18 appearances for the season.

Jansen picked up his 23rd save Tuesday against the Brewers. He struck out two.

Jansen made quick work of the Brewers, needing just 10 pitch -- seven of which went for strikes -- to close the door. He's now third in MLB in saves behind Marlins' A.J. Ramos (24) and Mets' Jeurys Familia (26).

Gomez picked up his 21st save with a clean ninth inning Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.

Gomez doesn't rack up anywhere near the strikeout totals of most elite closers -- he has just 24 in 36 innings, a 6.7 K/9. He's making it work, as only five closers have more than his 21 saves, but the only regular closer with a worse K/9 is Arizona's Brad Ziegler (6.0).

Robles took a ball directly off the calf in Tuesday's game, but should be OK going forward, ESPN's Adam Rubin reports.

He was down on the ground after taking the comebacker Tuesday, but he was able to walk off under his own power. Manager Terry Collins predicted Robles would be sore Wednesday, but would be OK to pitch in the near future. He gave up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two in two innings before exiting Tuesday.
