Vizcaino picked up his sixth save of the season Sunday against the Cardinals, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Vizcaino converted his fourth straight save attempt in this one, further solidifying his spot atop the pecking order for the Braves' closing spot ahead of the recently ousted Jim Johnson. Those looking for help in the saves department would be wise to take a peek at Vizcaino if he's available on the wire.

Suter was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with a left rotator cuff strain.

The diagnosis of a left rotator cuff strain may help explain Suter's recent string of poor starts. After posting a 1.50 ERA over five starts in July, the soft-tossing lefty has been roughed up for 13 total runs over his first three outings during the month of August. A timeline for his eventual return has not been revealed, while it's possible that Suter or Brandon Woodruff could be bumped from the starting rotation when Chase Anderson (oblique) returns from the DL in the next week or two.

Melancon gave up one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning Saturday against the Nationals.

The Giants were down 3-1, so Melancon was indeed used in a lower-leverage situation in his first action since being activated from the DL. He touched 93 mph with his fastball, and the general consensus was that he looked pretty sharp. It's possible that he will continue to be used in non-save situations over his next couple outings, but he is expected to eventually return to the ninth-inning role.

Stephenson (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Sunday.

Stephenson suffered a right shoulder contusion during his last start with the Reds on Aug. 2. The ailment only required a minimum 10-day stay on the disabled list and the 24-year-old is set to rejoin the team. Whether or not he'll rejoin the starting rotation is unclear at the moment.

The Mets selected McGowan's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

McGowan will occupy the vacant roster spot that opened up when Neil Walker was traded to the Brewers on Sunday. The 25-year-old has posted a 4.06 ERA over 62 innings with Las Vegas this season. He'll likely work in a low-leverage role with the big-league club moving forward.

Beato (hamstring) started a rehab assignment with High-A Clearwater on Saturday.

Beato pitched an inning, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two. He'll probably need to make a few more rehab appearances before he comes off the disabled list later this week.

Hernandez came in to record the final out of the ninth inning Saturday against the Cubs, nailing down his first save of the year.

The Diamondbacks had a 6-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, but closer Fernando Rodney was still summoned and he failed to finish the inning, creating a save situation for Hernandez in the process. This was a one-off opportunity for Hernandez, who has not given up a run in four innings since joining the Diamondbacks a couple weeks ago.

Suter gave up five runs on four hits -- including three home runs -- and four walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.

The lefty served up homers in the first, fourth and fifth innings, and has now given up five long balls in his last 14.1 innings after allowing a total of two in his first 13 appearance with Milwaukee (45 innings). He hasn't been as sharp with his command and control in recent starts, and Suter has a daunting matchup on tap next with the Brewers traveling to Colorado next week.

Rodney gave up two runs on four hits in a non-save situation while failing to finish the ninth inning Saturday against the Cubs.

While this was not a save situation for Rodney, he created one for David Hernandez, who came in to get the final out for his first save of the season. Rodney is certainly not the model closer, and he is not the best reliever in the Diamondbacks' bullpen, but it's hard to envision this shaky outing leading to any kind of role change. This performance snapped a streak of eight straight scoreless appearances.

Garcia retired both hitters he faced while striking out one to earn his second save Saturday against the Mets.

Garcia was given a rare save opportunity, but successfully protected a two-run lead. On the season, he also has four holds and three blown saves.
