Estevez (oblique) will be placed on the disabled list to start the regular season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

The young right-hander was already prepared to miss the first few games, but this move will ultimately allow the team to keep a fresh arm on the roster in his stead. No word has come forth as to how soon he'll be back in action. This will open the door for Scott Oberg and Antonio Senzatela to start the season in the major-league bullpen.

Shaw concluded spring training with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.33 WHIP in six innings pitched.

Much of the damage done to the veteran's stat line came courtesy of the home run ball, as he served up four of them in his limited spring action. One silver lining to his rough spring was the nine strikeouts he collected in that span. Overall, it doesn't seem like Shaw's standing in the bullpen is impacted by these struggles since the Rockies tend to focus more on individual adjustments rather than the results during the spring. The 30-year-old appears to still be in line for a prominent late-inning role in the Colorado bullpen.

Garcia was recalled from Double-A Jacksonville on Thursday and will work out of the bullpen in long relief during the first series of the year against the Cubs, which means he likely won't start Monday's game against the Red Sox, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Garcia profiles best in relief and has never started a game in the majors, so this isn't a huge surprise. It is unclear who will start Monday's game. Adam Conley and Sandy Alcantara would be the most fantasy-relevant options, and both would be eligible to be recalled as they were sent to minor-league camp over a week ago.

The Phillies placed Leiter (forearm) on the 10-day disabled list Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Leiter initially looked like a good bet to fill a rotation spot at the beginning of the season after Jerad Eickhoff sustained a lat strain earlier in the month, but both players will end up on the DL after the former suffered a setback of his own just days after latter. The Phillies officially diagnosed Leiter with a mild flexor strain, an injury that is expected to keep him unavailable until at least late April. The multi-week injuries to Leiter and Eickhoff allowed Ben Lively to break camp as Philadephia's No. 5 starter.

Hoover was reassigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday.

Hoover will serve as organizational bullpen depth after failing to secure a spot in the Brewers' Opening Day bullpen. In 52 appearances for the Diamondbacks last season, Hoover compiled a 3.92 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 54:26 K:BB across 41.1 innings.

Nelson (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

This was expected, as Nelson is expected to be sidelined until July while recovering from September shoulder surgery. The Brewers' ace has been slowly increasing his throwing distance and is hoping to return to mound work in late April. A more concrete return date should emerge when he progresses further in his rehab.

Strahm (knee) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

As expected, Strahm will open the 2018 season on the shelf as he continues to recover from July knee surgery. He entered spring training with no restrictions and incurred no setbacks during four Cactus League starts, but the Padres want to play it safe with the 26-year-old and ease him into the season. It's unclear if the team plans to bring him back as a starter or reliever at this moment. Once the Padres decide how they intend to use Strahm, a potential return date for the southpaw should clear up.

Lamet (elbow) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

Lamet has already been ruled out through April, so this was to be expected. He's been sidelined since Sunday with elbow soreness, but no structural damage was detected and the hope is that the young righty will be able to rejoin the Padres' rotation sometime in May. The team has yet to announce who will serve as its fifth starter while Lamet is sidelined, but Robbie Erlin seems to be a good guess.

Torres signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Torres has latched on with the Nationals after failing to secure an Opening Day roster spot with the Indians and subsequently opting out of his contract. He'll report to the minors and look to eventually work his way onto the major-league roster. According to Cotillo, Torres' new deal includes multiple opt-out clauses, so he could again elect free agency if he fails to make the big-league roster by a certain date.

Reyes (elbow) has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to March 26.

Reyes has not yet fully recovered from the Tommy John procedure he underwent last year, so his 2018 campaign will begin on the disabled list. It's not clear how much more recovery time he will need before he is ready for big-league action, but he still has a few hurdles to clear.
