Brebbia cleaned up the final three innings in an eight-run blowout to pick up his first save Wednesday against the Mets.

Brebbia was called up to replace Adam Wainwright as the club sorts out its rotation in the wake of his elbow injury. He fired strikes in an admirable performance as he racked up four strikeouts behind an impressive seven swinging strikes in 45 pitches. Unfortunately, his reward may be a quick return to the minor leagues, as the Cardinals may require fresh arms in their bullpen.

Richards didn't allow a run and gave up just one hit and three walks with 10 strikeouts Wednesday against the Dodgers but fell one out shy of qualifying for the win.

Richards has shown promise at times, but he has completed five innings just once now in five starts. The one time he did was a brilliant outing, as he gave up just two hits and a walk in seven shutout innings April 14 against Pittsburgh. But Richards has now walked a whopping 14 batters in just 23.1 innings of work. As Wednesday night's outing shows, even when he's at his best in every other face of the game, Richards won't be able to pick up wins if he can't fix his control. Most managers would do their best to let their starter complete five innings with a shutout going, but Richards needed 100 pitches to get through 4.2 innings, and at that point, it was time for Miami to go to the bullpen.

Barraclough was unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to a death in his family, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Barraclough left the team prior to Wednesday's game. It's unclear if he'll remain away from the Marlins beyond Thursday's off day, but if he does, the team will likely place him on the bereavement list and add another bullpen arm from the minors.

Minter notched his first save of the season after striking out one batter in a scoreless inning against the Reds on Wednesday, and manager Brian Snitker said after the game that he expects to see Minter in more of those spots moving forward, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.

Minter has excelled as the team's top setup man so far this season, and the young lefty didn't miss a beat when given his first career big-league save opportunity Wednesday. With a pair of lefties due up for Cincinnati in the ninth inning -- Joey Votto and Scooter Gennett -- Snitker opted to play matchups and go with Minter over the team's primary closer, right-hander Arodys Vizcaino. The move paid off, as the 24-year-old southpaw needed just 11 pitches -- seven of which were strikes -- to sit the Reds down in order. According to Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Snitker was pleased with how Minter responded in the ninth inning and expects to use him in more save situations going forward depending on matchups and who is available. "I'm hoping we see (Minter) in it a lot," Snitker said. "That means we're using a lot of guys and doing well in the ninth inning. So I have no problem at all with just going with the matchups and not wearing one guy out."

Leiter (forearm) will throw another bullpen session Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.

Leiter resumed throwing last week and will continue to work his way back from a mild flexor strain that he picked up in mid-March. The right-hander remains without a concrete timetable but expect an update on his status once he's ready for a rehab assignment.

Gomez was called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Gomez will return to the majors with Chris Stratton placed on paternity leave prior to Wednesday's game. Over three appearances with the Giants this season, Gomez has allowed five earned runs off 11 hits while striking out four in four innings of relief. He will likely be utilized in low-leverage situations during his time with the team.

Chafin retired only one of the three batters he faced Tuesday but picked up his third hold of the season in the Diamondbacks' 8-4 triumph over the Phillies.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo summoned Chafin from the bullpen with two outs and a runner on first base in the bottom of the sixth inning and the lefty-hitting Odubel Herrera at the dish. Chafin proceeded to hit Herrera with a pitch, then gave up a run-scoring single to Cesar Hernandez before striking out Carlos Santana to end the threat. Chafin was credited with the hold since he exited with the Diamondbacks still maintaining a one-run lead, but his shaky showing probably won't embolden Lovullo to use the southpaw against opposite-handed hitters if he can help it. Even after allowing Herrera to reach base, Chafin is still holding lefty hitters to a .154/.267/.154 line for the season, so the 27-year-old isn't in any danger of losing his role as the team's designated LOOGY.

Arano tossed two-thirds of an inning Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out two batters.

The run was the first Arano has allowed this season, so his ERA still stands at a minuscule 0.82. Combined with a stellar performance in a brief sample last season, he now has a 1.25 ERA in 21.2 big-league innings, and his 1.73 FIP suggests that he's largely deserved that ERA. It's still obviously quite a small sample, but it's a promising start to his career. With Pat Neshek (shoulder) nearing a return from the disabled list, someone in the Phillies' bullpen is likely to be on the way out, but at this point it would be very surprising if that someone were Arano.

Bowman (0-1) allowed an earned run on two hits over one inning while also recording a strikeout during an extra-innings loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

Bowman got the call in the 10th with Bud Norris unavailable due to arm soreness, and he was on the hook for the loss after allowing Jay Bruce's 405-foot solo home run to center. The right-hander has proven unreliable of late, as he's now surrendered a round tripper in each of his last two outings, and at least one earned run in three of his last four appearances overall.

Leone fired 1.1 scoreless frames in an extra-innings loss to the Mets on Tuesday, allowing a hit while recording a strikeout.

Leone got 10 of his 12 pitches into the strike zone while working at least one inning for the eighth time in 10 appearances. The 26-year-old right-hander has served as an effective middle-to-late-inning relief option for manager Mike Matheny for the majority of the season, now having generated five straight scoreless outings during which he's notched a win and two holds.
