  • Edward Paredes RP | PHI

Dodgers' Edward Paredes: Recalled from minors

Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Paredes will take the roster spot of JT Chargois, who was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move. The 31-year-old owns a impressive 1.17 ERA and 11.2 K/9 across 15.1 innings in the minors, though that also comes with an unsightly 7.0 BB/9. He'll likely work in middle innings during his time with the big club.

  • Reds' David Hernandez: Could see save chances

Hernandez could factor into the ninth-inning mix with Raisel Iglesias (biceps) landing on the disabled list Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati reports.

Interim manager Jim Riggleman named five different relievers who could close in Iglesias' absence: Hernandez, Jared Hughes, Wandy Peralta, Amir Garrett and Michael Lorenzen. Hernandez has pitched well since his return from the DL in late April, and he has some past closing experience, having recorded 22 saves in his nine big-league seasons. Iglesias' injury is to his non-throwing arm, so it will likely be a short absence, but nevertheless there is a window of opportunity in Cincinnati and Hernandez looks like as strong a bet as anyone to see save chances.

  • Tanner Rainey RP | DET

Reds' Tanner Rainey: Recalled from Triple-A

Rainey was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

He has given up seven earned runs in two big-league innings this year, but has been much more successful in 17.2 frames at Triple-A (2.04 ERA, 31 strikeouts). Raisel Iglesias (non-throwing biceps) and Austin Brice (back) were placed on the disabled list as corresponding moves. Look for Rainey to be used in low-leverage situations.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Hits DL with non-throwing biceps injury

Iglesias was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a sore left biceps, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Considering Iglesias is a righty, this could be a brief stay on the disabled list. He has not pitched since blowing a save May 19, and this may have had something to do with that. Manager Jim Riggleman listed Jared Hughes, David Hernandez, Wandy Peralta, Amir Garrett and Michael Lorenzen as options to close while Iglesias is out, per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati, so it could be difficult to use this injury as an opportunity to pick up saves off the waiver wire, given that uncertainty.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Lands on DL with undisclosed injury

Iglesias was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with an undisclosed injury.

He has not pitched since blowing a save on May 19 against the Cubs. Michael Lorenzen (shoulder) was activated as a corresponding move. Amir Garrett, David Hernandez, Jared Hughes and Lorenzen could all be options to fill in while Iglesias is out.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Earns another start

Manager Dave Roberts said after Tuesday's game that Stewart did enough to deserve another start, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old Stewart fared well in his first start of the season for the big club. He was limited to 63 pitches Tuesday and didn't go far enough to qualify for the win, but the Dodgers did win the game after Stewart tossed four innings of two-run ball with one strikeout. It sounds like he will be afforded another turn next week at home against the Phillies before Clayton Kershaw (biceps) returns and supplants Stewart in the Dodgers' rotation.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Phillies' Luis Garcia: Excellent middle-relief outing

Garcia threw 1.2 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Braves, striking out three without allowing a single baserunner.

Garcia didn't allow the ball to leave the infield, getting two groundouts to go with his trio of strikeouts. The Phillies' bullpen is currently undergoing a transition period with no clear closer, but Garcia doesn't seem to be in the mix for saves at the moment. The veteran has been used in the most important situations for the Phillies this season, at least by Leverage Index, though he's only once pitched in the ninth inning. The team clearly trusts him in key situations, and it wouldn't be too surprising to see him in the mix for saves at some point this year, but there have been no indications of that happening any time soon.

  • Carlos Torres RP | WAS

Nationals' Carlos Torres: Designated for assignment

Torres was designated for assignment Wednesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

Torres appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen for Washington, accruing a 6.52 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with nine strikeouts across 9.2 innings. In a corresponding move, Erick Fedde has been called up to the big-league squad.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Whiffs nine in Tuesday's start

Helsley covered seven innings and gave up two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out nine for Triple-A Memphis in the affiliate's 10-3 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

After getting through a bumpy first inning, Helsley was electric the rest of the way, retiring the final 20 batters he faced on the evening. The 23-year-old has now covered at least six innings in all but one of his last seven starts and maintains a 3.76 ERA and 62:22 K:BB across 55 innings between Memphis and Double-A Springfield this season. The Cardinals' strong organizational starting pitching depth will likely prevent Helsley from getting a look in the big-league rotation in 2018 barring a rash of injuries, but the hard-throwing righty could be called up to provide a boost to the St. Louis bullpen at some point in the second half.

  • Bryan Shaw RP | CIN

Rockies' Bryan Shaw: Dealt loss Tuesday

Shaw (1-3) allowed three runs on three hits over one inning while taking the loss Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Shaw came on in the sixth inning tasked to hold a 3-2 lead, but after a single and groundout he allowed back-to-back home runs and was served with the loss and blown save for his second appearance in a row. It's been a bumpy road for the 30-year-old this season, as he now has a 5.92 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 24.1 innings.
