Elieser Hernandez RP | LAD
Marlins' Elieser Hernandez: Shifting to bullpen role
Hernandez is expected to pitch out of the bullpen moving forward, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Trevor Richards will be summoned from Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday to take Hernandez's place in the rotation. The 23-year-old allowed five runs on five hits (including three homers) in just three innings in his most recent start, raising his ERA from 2.50 to 4.29 in the process. The Rule 5 pick will now revert back to the long-relief role he initially served in before joining the starting rotation in mid-May.

Trevor Richards RP | CHW
Marlins' Trevor Richards: Will join rotation Thursday
Richards will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday to start against the Cardinals, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Richards will take the rotation spot of Elieser Hernandez, who is expected to shift to the bullpen after allowing five runs on five hits -- including a trio of homers -- in just three innings during his most recent start. The 25-year-old Richards owns a sharp 2.06 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across six starts (39.1 innings) with the Baby Cakes this season. He produced mixed results through five starts with the big club earlier in the season, compiling a 4.94 ERA and 24:14 K:BB across 23.2 innings of work.

Alex Reyes RP | LAD
Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Undergoes season-ending surgery
Reyes (lat) underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a torn tendon and will miss the remainder of the season, Mark Saxon of The Athletic St. Louis reports. The right-hander is expected to require six months to make a full recovery.
Unfortunately, Reyes will only wind up appearing in one game for the Cardinals this season after sustaining another significant injury. After a lengthy rehab from February 2017 Tommy John surgery, Reyes appeared poised to provide a lift to the St. Louis rotation following four brilliant tune-up outings in the minors, but he lasted just four innings in his lone start with the big club May 30 against the Brewers before the lat injury cropped up. The 23-year-old should be back to full health by next spring, but recovering from significant surgeries in back-to-back years can take a toll on a young arm. Expect further updates on Reyes' status once he resumes a throwing program over the winter.

Caleb Ferguson RP | STL
Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Confirmed as Wednesday's starter
Ferguson has been confirmed as the starter for the Dodgers' game Wednesday against the Pirates.
Ferguson has split time between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, accruing a 1.53 ERA and 52:17 K:BB in 47 innings. The Dodgers will presumably wait and see how Ferguson performs Wednesday before deciding whether or not to keep him with the big club a little longer, but the looming return of Kenta Maeda (hip) to the rotation makes it likely that the 21-year-old will just be up with the team for one start.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Will require another rehab start
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Miller (elbow) would remain on assignment at Double-A Jackson for at least one more rehab start, the Associated Press reports.
Lovullo noted that Miller didn't experience any unusual soreness in his surgically repaired right elbow after he completed his first start at Jackson and second turn in the minors overall Monday. Miller, who tossed 79 pitches during that outing while giving up one run and striking out six over 4.2 innings, is expected to build up to 90 pitches in his upcoming start for Jackson, which will likely fall Saturday or Sunday. Assuming he comes out of that appearance no worse for the wear, Miller would presumably get activated from the 60-day disabled list and slot back into the Arizona rotation for the first time since April 2017.

Phil Maton RP | CHC
Padres' Phil Maton: Begins rehab assignment
Maton (lat) kicked off a rehab assignment at High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out two batters.
Maton loaded the bases with a walk and a pair of hits, but escaped the frame unscathed in what marked his first game action since May 12. The 25-year-old will likely need to make another appearance or two in the minors before the Padres bring him back from the 10-day disabled list following a three-week absence due to a right lat strain.

Matt Strahm RP | KC
Padres' Matt Strahm: Picking up start Wednesday in bullpen game
Strahm will start Wednesday against the Braves as part of a bullpen day, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
After Triple-A El Paso callup Walker Lockett struggled while starting in place of Joey Lucchesi (hip) last week, the Padres will turn to a number of relievers to fill Lucchesi's spot this time around. Strahm previously started May 30 against the Marlins in another bullpen game and spun two scoreless innings, so he'll likely be in line for a similar workload again Wednesday.

Luke Jackson RP | SEA
Braves' Luke Jackson: Nabs three-inning save Tuesday
Jackson allowed one run on one hit and two walks over three innings Tuesday while striking out five to record his first career save in a 14-1 rout of the Padres.
The score was "only" 8-0 when Jackson entered the game, so this was about as low leverage a situation as a pitcher can handle, but the 26-year-old still got the job done. He's got a 5.67 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 50:33 K:BB in 73 career big-league innings, however, and he'll likely return to Triple-A Gwinnett once the Braves need a fresh arm in their bullpen.

Mark Melancon RP | ARI
Giants' Mark Melancon: Sharp in middle relief
Melancon fired a clean inning with a pair of strikeouts in a 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Melancon has looked very sharp in two appearances since being reinstated from the disabled list, not allowing a baserunner while striking out five over two innings. Hunter Strickland has been solid since taking over as the team's closer, so the former closer will have to operate in middle relief for the time being. If Melancon can continue pitching the way he has in his first two outings -- while also staying healthy -- then he would be the primary candidate to see save opportunities should Strickland falter at any point this season.

Brad Boxberger RP | CHC
Diamondbacks' Brad Boxberger: Records save despite run allowed
Boxberger pitched the ninth to pick up the save Tuesday against the Giants, allowing one run on three hits while striking out one and walking zero.
Boxberger gave up a double to Alen Hanson and then allowed Hanson to score on a single by Buster Posey. After allowing another single to Andrew McCutchen, Boxberger got Evan Longoria to ground out to end the game. This was the first time in 13 outings that Boxberger allowed multiple hits in an appearance, yet he's still sporting an excellent .210 batting average against. The 30-year-old is 14-for-15 in save chances and carries a 29:9 K:BB in 21.1 innings.
