John Brebbia RP | COL
Cardinals' John Brebbia: Activated from DL, optioned
Brebbia (forearm) was activated from the disabled list Sunday and optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
Brebbia wound up spending slightly more than the minimum 10 days on the disabled list with a forearm issue. He logged one rehab appearance with the Redbirds on Saturday, allowing an earned run on a hit over one inning while recording two strikeouts in a loss to Round Rock. The 28-year-old will report to Memphis for now, though he figures to return to the big club when a fresh bullpen arm is needed or when rosters expand Sept. 1. He owns a 3.83 ERA and 45:13 K:BB across 40 major-league innings this season.

Daniel Ponce de Leon RP | WAS
Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: Earns rotation spot
Poncedeleon will start Tuesday against the Dodgers, taking Luke Weaver's spot in the Cardinals' rotation, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.
Poncedeleon has thrown 17.2 innings for the Cardinals this season, starting one game and appearing five times in relief. His 2.04 ERA as well as his 2.15 ERA with Triple-A Memphis suggest he deserves the chance to start, though his underlying numbers at the major-league level aren't nearly as pretty. He's struck out too few batters (15.2 percent), walked too many (13.6 percent) and hasn't generated many groundballs (31.9 percent). His low ERA seems to be primarily a product of his unsustainable .133 BABIP and 91.6 percent strand rate, and his 5.03 FIP may be more reflective of his ability.

A.J. Minter RP | MIN
Braves' A.J. Minter: Blows save against Colorado
Minter allowed three runs on four hits while recording two outs in Saturday's loss to the Rockies. He was charged with his second blown save of the season.
While Minter was pitching with a small cut on his thumb, per David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta, he was adamant that it had no effect on his performance. The lefty probably deserves a mulligan -- he came into Saturday's game with a 0.90 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB in 10 appearances since the All-Star break. Arodys Vizcaino (shoulder), who spent most of the first half in the closer role for Atlanta, just resumed throwing this week.

Jimmy Nelson RP | LAD
Brewers' Jimmy Nelson: Tosses bullpen session
Nelson (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Prior to Saturday, Nelson had managed to play catch off a mound, but he hadn't advanced to pitching. Although a return this year seems unlikely, it's good to see that he's continuing to make progress. If Nelson doesn't return from the disabled list before the season ends, expect him to throw in the instructional league or Arizona Fall League during the offseason to ensure he's ready for the 2019 campaign.

Trevor Gott RP | WAS
Nationals' Trevor Gott: Sent to minors
Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse prior to Saturday's game against Miami, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
Gott has posted an ugly 5.68 ERA with 15 strikeouts over 19 innings out of the bullpen for Washington this season. He'll head to the Chiefs, with Jimmy Cordero and Jerry Rodriguez called up from Syracuse on Saturday.
-
Jimmy Cordero RP | NYY
Nationals' Jimmy Cordero: Returns to big leagues
Cordero was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Saturday's game against the Marlins, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
Cordero has appeared in two games for the Nationals in 2018, allowed two runs while striking out one over 2.1 frames. He'll provide an additional arm out of Washington's bullpen during his latest stint in the majors.

Matt Andriese RP | MIA
Diamondbacks' Matt Andriese: Finishes out win
Andriese gave up a run on a one hit -- a solo home run -- and a walk while striking out two over his two-inning relief appearance in the Diamondbacks' 9-4 win over the Padres on Friday.
Manuel Margot's eighth-inning solo shot ended a six-inning scoreless streak for Andriese, who owns a 4.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through his first seven appearances with the Diamondbacks. He's expected to serve as a multi-inning middle reliever down the stretch for Arizona, a role that probably won't translate to much fantasy utility.
-
Jake Diekman RP | ATL
Diamondbacks' Jake Diekman: Provides clean appearance
Diekman tossed a scoreless seventh inning Friday in a 9-4 win over the Padres.
Aside from a blowup against the Phillies on Aug. 7, Diekman has been as good as advertised since the Diamondbacks acquired him from the Rangers on July 31. The lefty has kept the opposition off the board in his other five appearances with the club and has retired five of the last six hitters he's faced via strikeout.
-
Jesse Chavez RP | ATL
Cubs' Jesse Chavez: Gets save against Pirates
Chavez walked one while recording the final two outs of Friday's 1-0 win over the Pirates to record his second save of the season.
Pedro Strop and Carl Edwards Jr. both pitched Wednesday and Thursday, forcing Cubs manager Joe Maddon to get creative with his bullpen and use four different relievers in the eighth and ninth innings, capping things off with Chavez. The 34-year-old has been impressive since being traded from the Rangers in mid-July, posting a 1.76 ERA and 18:2 K:BB in 15.1 innings with the Cubs, but he's unlikely to become a regular part of Chicago's ninth-inning mix.

Daniel Hudson RP | LAD
Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Activated from DL
Hudson (forearm) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Friday's game in Seattle, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
As expected, Hudson will rejoin the active roster after the minimum 10 days due to right forearm tightness. The right-hander has appeared in 38 games for the Dodgers this year, logging a 3.92 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 40 strikeouts across 43.2 innings. Look for the Dodgers to make a corresponding move in the coming hours.
