  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Padres' Kirby Yates: Earns fifth save of year

Yates struck out two in a clean ninth inning to pick up the save Tuesday against the Rockies.

Yates entered the game to protect a one-run lead in Coors Field and retired the side on 12 pitches (eight strikes) to earn his fifth save of the season. Yates had allowed runs to score in his previous two outings, but even so he's still sporting an excellent 1.82 ERA on the year to go along with a 0.95 WHIP and a .190 batting average against. The 31-year-old is solidifying a firm grip on the closer role in San Diego.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Blows save but gets win

Iglesias (2-1) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday. He allowed three hits while striking out one and walking zero.

Iglesias entered the game with one on and one out in the eighth inning with a one-run lead and allowed the baserunner to score to blow his fourth save of the year. The Reds came through with two runs in the ninth to enable Iglesias to come away with the victory. The reliever now sports a 2.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 61:15 K:BB in 56.2 innings while holding opponents to a .205 batting average. His 23 saves are good for seventh in the NL.

  • Pat Venditte RP | LAD

Dodgers' Pat Venditte: Returns to majors

Venditte was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Venditte returns to the Dodgers yet again with JT Chargois (neck) moving to the disabled list. The switch-pitcher has allowed four runs over 4.1 major-league innings this season, but hasn't made an appearance with the Dodgers since early June.

  • JT Chargois RP | TEX

Dodgers' JT Chargois: Heads to disabled list

Chargois (neck) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Chargois exited Monday's game against the Cardinals with neck discomfort, which the Dodgers are now classifying as nerve irritation. The severity of the issue remains unclear. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

  • Clay Holmes SP | CHC

Pirates' Clay Holmes: Recalled by Pirates

Holmes was recalled by the Pirates on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old has a 7.20 ERA in 15 innings for the Pirates this season. Jordan Luplow was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

  • A.J. Minter RP | MIN

Braves' A.J. Minter: Hopes to be available Wednesday

Minter (back) played catch Tuesday and hopes to be available for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Minter was unavailable Monday with back tightness and remains out Tuesday. Dan Winkler appears to be the primary closing option in Minter's absence.

  • Derek Law RP | ARI

Giants' Derek Law: Sent right back to Triple-A

Law was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Law was up for just a single day this time around, throwing a pair of scoreless innings with a strikeout and two walks Monday against the Mets. Chris Stratton was recalled from Double-A Richmond in a corresponding move.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | MIL

Braves' Bryse Wilson: Sent back down

Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.

This was fully anticipated, as Wilson was just making a spot start in his big-league debut Monday against the Pirates. However, he was impressive enough that Mark Bowman of MLB.com speculated that Wilson could make a few more starts for the Braves in September. If there is no need in the rotation, Wilson could be used as a weapon out of the big-league bullpen when rosters expand.

  • Trey Wingenter RP | CHC

Padres' Trey Wingenter: Returns to action over weekend

Wingenter (back) allowed one run on two hits in one inning Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Wingenter was unavailable for a few days after getting hit with a liner last week, but he was cleared to return over the weekend. The 24-year-old reliever now owns a 2.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB across 6.1 innings with the Padres this season.

  • Ty Blach RP | CHC

Giants' Ty Blach: Moves back to bullpen

Blach has made his last three appearances out of the Giants' bullpen, tossing 5.2 innings over that span and giving up two runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five.

Blach picked up a spot start Aug. 11 against the Pirates after Chris Stratton was dropped from the rotation, but the lefty was unable to impress in the outing, giving up four runs over four innings to take the loss. The Giants have since opted to go with Casey Kelly as their fifth starter, with Stratton also set to rejoin the rotation Tuesday against the Mets to replace the injured Dereck Rodriguez (hamstring). Manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Rodriguez will likely be able to return from the disabled list over the weekend, so any window for Blach to rejoin the rotation looks like it has probably closed at this point.
